2 Wheel Bandit
Advantages: Fun, Economic, Reasonably priced
Disadvantages: Wobbles over 100mph, Forks bottom out, Too high for people with short legs!!
...strings, insurance-wise and easier for town work, as college is only a few miles from home. We had to find a balance between the size, as we ride two up quite a lot and the economy as students are notoriously short of the green stuff! (Don’t think much money’s green these days though is it?) We tested a few different bikes from our local Gedges motorcycle shop, and accidentally found the Bandit in the workshop as it had just come in second-hand, having been sold from there from brand new and serviced there.
We both fell in love with it there and then, even allowing for the fact that the previous owner had neglected to maintain the tyres and the back one was badly bulging. But we both knew that this would be the bike we bought. We went back a few days later after it had been serviced etc and took it out for a test ride. Sure...

Bandit stole my heart
Advantages: Handling, engine, novice- and expert- friendly
Disadvantages: Some dealers less than helpful
...I bought my Suzuki Bandit 600S (i.e. with a fairing) when it was just over a year old. I was very impressed: for the price of a year old Honda CB500 (boring but reliable commuter) I picked up a 600 Bandit (drummingbunny's dream bike!).
I can heartily recommend this bike to anyone except the hardcore power junkies. It pulls smoothly from just above tickover in any gear: it will comfortably cruise at 30 mph in top gear. The engine goes slightly off tune when it is nearing the end of a service interval but otherwise it has surprisingly clearly defined powerbands (it's like having two turbos, brilliant!). Tickover to 4000 rpm has a nice soft response suitable for town riding, 4000 to 8000 rpm is sharper (just what you need for out of town riding) and 8000 to 12000 rpm is gung ho territory. It took a little time before I was confident to...

600cc Bandit S year 2000 model
Advantages: cheap to buy and run
Disadvantages: taller and heavier than some similar bikes
...When I bought my Bandit I was looking for a bike that would be reasonably priced, cheap to run, easy to ride either solo or carrying a passenger and capable of covering reasonable distances. I can honestly say that in my opinion the 600 Bandit S lives up to all my expectations.
I was mainly looking for the unfaired version, as I prefer the looks of the "naked" bike - a motorcycle should just be an engine, two wheels, a seat and a headlight! But when I first saw mine "in the flesh" I fell in love with it immediately - to the extent that I bought it without a test ride and paid the exact asking price!! Luckily the ride home was enough to convince me that I had made the right decision. The Bandit was easy for me to ride from the off, even though I rode it home at night, in the rain and previously the largest bike I had ridden was a 305...

Bandit still in the big league
Advantages: Easy handling, comfortable ride. Very fun
Disadvantages: Can be intense
...The Bandit has been about for some years, and there's a good reason for this. The bike does what it says on the tin, it rides and rides and rides. I've owned one for around a year now. I bought a 1998 Bandit 600SW, this was my first bike, passed my test a week and went out hunting.
The bandit first started in the early nineties, which has led some people to say they are a bit long in the tooth. If this were true why would they after 15 years keep producing the 600cc and 1200cc bandits?
The bandit competes with bikes like the Yamaha 600 Fazer and the Honda 600 Hornet. The three bikes all sit closely in their range of stats, but they all are very different. Now what things would you be looking for when choosing a bike if your new to it all, hopefully the following will help.
****Performance****
The 600 Bandit boasts around 75bhp...

Bandit GSF1200 Naked
Advantages: Trick parts and spares easy to find & cheaply.
Disadvantages: Need a neck brace for high speed on naked version
...more is it can be relatively easily tuned to turn out more.
As far as spares and aftermarket parts are concerned these are readily available at good prices. It is arguably one of the best bikes to hone your bike mechanic skills on too. There are a multitude of websites available offering expert advice specifically for the Bandit 12 because of their popularity and if you're not completely in love with it, it's resale value is second to none. I'm a good example of this because I had to travel 60 odd miles for the nearest dealer who had one for sale.
In conclusion the Suzuki Bandit GSF1200 is what I call a 'keeper', i.e once you get yourself one you'll hang on to it. If you're fortunate enough to have a few grand spare, take this strong advice, go out and get one you WON'T be disappointed....

Bandit 1200S rocks
Advantages: Power, Cost
Disadvantages: Split interests
...I bought this bike from a dealer in the fall of 03. The "S" bikes come with a 1/2 fairing on the front, rather than the naked look of the 1200. I got the bike for about 6K US dollars. I don't know how many pounds or pence that is for your Brits.
If you're looking for an old man cruiser, then get a cruiser, man.
If you're looking for an all out crotch rocket, then get a full fairing sport bike, but be ready to pay 10 grand or so for those suckers.
If you're looking for a bike with huge balls that is VERY inexpensive for what you get, but that can be ridden comfortably as well, then get out your purse M8 and buy the Bandit 1200S.
This bike rocks. If you haven't been on a big bike, be EXTREMELY cautious with the throttle. I drove an old Honda and a 750 Honda Nighthawk, but neither was even close to the torque on this puppy...

Suzuki GP125 Racer
Advantages: Rotary inlet valve, Large cooling fins.
Disadvantages: Big gap between 2nd and 3rd.
...Suzuki GP125's make great junior gp racers F4 here in New Zealand. We race F4 and F5 (50's) on go-kart tracks and longer GP tracks.
My own GP125 runs on 17" rims and is shod with Honda RS125 GP slicks. Frame is braced, racing seat and clipons. The barrel is skimmed 1.75mm and "O" ringed. Port timing is Ex opens 86 (short track) and 83 degrees (long track) ATDC Transfers 114 degrees ATDC and inlet timing is opens 145 BTDC and closes 55 (short track) 85 (long track) ATDC.
Runs an expansion chamber modelled on the 84 RM125 spec's and because of the rough and tumble (close racing and many crashes) of racing to the limit on go-cart tracks the pipe is made out of 1.25mm material and rigidly mounted so it does not get munched easily in a crash.
F4 125 two strokes are limited to air cooling and a single 24mm carb. It is putting out...

The Time Bandit named... Kevin ??
Advantages: Simply Brilliant
Disadvantages: None
...The Time Bandits.
********************
~Introduction~
Please don't laugh but this was the first 'Video' I ever saw and so holds a special fondness for me.
The movie actually comes from a script originally co written by Michael Palin and Terry Gilliam.
Terry Gilliam was to follow this film up with equally whimsical fantasies such as Brazil and The Adventures of Baron Munchausen.
~Synopsis~
Kevin is a bored young lad with overbearing parents until one night a group of thieving dwarves magically appear in his bedroom. They have stolen a map which shows all the holes in time, the creation of everything being a rush job, left gap that one could sneak through. Oh and they are being pursued by 'The Supreme Being'.
The dwarves, now accompanied by Kevin, go on a riotous adventure through time stealing as much as they can carry...

Time Bandits
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: see review
...Time Bandits is one of the early works of director Terry Gilliam of Monty Python fame. It is a forerunner to such later greats as Brazil, The Fisher King and Baron Munchhausen and it shows exactly the kind of directorial talent Gilliam would later become. Time Bandits was written in collaboration with Michael Palin, and stars amongst others John Cleese so you should already get a hint as to the kind of movie experience you are in for...
Well, yes there is certainly a very strong Python feel about this movie, but in terms of style and fluidity it transcends the level of pure anarchism that the Python team were famed for. Yes, it is chaotic, but it is a controlled chaos which has a central purpose and a strong storyline running throughout - a claim which could never have been made for any of the real Python movies. As good as they were...
