Sutton Circuit - Probably The Best Karting Venue in the Midlands

Advantages: Good track, good karts, good staff, clean, inviting

...Sutton circuit is based in a small village called Sutton in the Elms, near Broughton Astley, Leicestershire. I have been going to the circuit now for about 2 years, at least once a month. I have also visited many of the outdoor karting circuits in the midlands, and a couple a little further a field. I can honestly say that Sutton is the best maintained track, best maintaoned karts, and some of the nicest people you would want to meet. Some of the circuits I have visited, the quality of the karts is completely unacceptable when you are paying upto £45 for 30 minutes. In all of my time going to sutton I have only ever seen two karts break down, or have any mechanical problems. The circuit is around 600 yards long, and a good average lap is around 39 seconds whilst using the hire karts. The lap record using these karts is 38...

...Due to the economic downturn, we decided to try and grow our own this season. searching through the seed suppliers at the garden centre, We found that Suttons had a really good range of product,s. They are , in some cases, a little bit more expensive than others, but the amount of seeds per pack was impressive. Prices range from, 99p for the more common seeds, like radish, lettuce and spring onion. Up to £1. 79 for runner beans, broad beans or garden peas. In March i began sowing and i have been very impressed with the amount of seedlings that have grown. As i write, there are lettuce big enough to pull, also radishes, which taste so much better than any you can buy from the supermarket. The runner beans were grown in pots and transplanted yesterday, with canes to grow up. Considering the price of them when they appear...

Sutton Seeds "don't bother"

Advantages: Being able to chose plants form the comfort of your own home
Disadvantages: Poor quality, Packaging, delivery. everything you'd expect a mailorder company to do.

...I used Sutton Seeds for the first and last time this year. First off I ordered a number of pot ready perennial plants that the website states should reach you in a healthy condition with up to 13cm of growth. These arrived packed in small plastic containers holding 5 plants in each. The container grips the root ball of the plant in one section and foliage is held in the upper part of the packaging and if the plants inside the packaging differ from each other then they are marked A, B, C etc. The Fuchsia plants I ordered where marked up this way so i carefully marked up the pots i potted on with but soon realized as these grew that they had not been correctly packaged an now I'm having to wait for them to flower before I can find out which is which. When the next lot of plants arrived they were very small with around 2 to 3 cm of growth...

Jarvis Penns - Sutton Coldfield

Advantages: Pleasant surroundings, good food and leisure facilities
Disadvantages: room not to the standard of some hotels

We arrived on the Friday night and made immediate use of the leisure facilities, we were however over-run with children from families who were members of the club. Not overjoyed, considering we had left ours at home, and Jarvis's policy indicates children under 12 are not allowed to enjoy these facilities. We used them again early the next morning, but again encountered quite a few young children. The hotel was located in a residential area of Sutton Coldfield, about 20 minutes brisk walk from the local shops, pubs and restaurants, which were quite good, but not cheap, but more economical than eating in the hotel restaurant. La Fitness in Sutton Coldfield - Don't Bother!

Advantages: Location, low price, although quality reflects this
Disadvantages: Poor state of repair, over crowded, bad service, poor value for money.

...I joined La Fitness - Sutton Coldfield just under a year ago and I am counting the days until it ends. I thought this gym would be a good choice as it was close to the train station where I get off and would encourage me to go more frequently. There is a Bannatyne at New Oscott but I couldn't face the traffic on the Chester Road. I secured a corporate deal by introducing our company to LA Fitness. As I forgot my card on the day I actually went to sign up, I missed the deal to upgrade so that I would be able to use any gym for the same price. This would've helped me as I could've used the branch in town as I work nearby. When I joined I noticed that there was often equipment that wasn't working and was left for a fairly long time before it was fixed. The air conditioning is only on now and then and the swimming pool's heating...

In the 1840s an added attraction was the construction of a race course in sutton park covering the plateau above blackroot gravel pit and extending from north of holly knoll to just beyond the present railway line--which at that time did not exist.In 1847 it was the venue for the birmingham races and where Tiny Wells a popular jockey of the time won his first race.For over 20 years racing was held there and was very popular and a grandstand was built to accomadate the punters. ...I attended a Sutton Trust Summer School at Bristol University last summer and i can honestly say it was one of the funnest weeks of the whole summer. Applying: I heard about the Sutton Trust Summer Schoo through the high achievers group at my college, there are several criteria you need to fulfil to make you eligible such as coming from a low income family and your parents not having been to university but to be honest i'm not sure the term "underprivileged" was quite correct- if you recieve EMA you should be fine to apply. There were also grades you needed to have achieved at GCSE i think it was 5 A/A* to get in. Before i went: The university provided me with a lot of information before i arrived and it was very easy to contact them if neccesary by phone or email. Fantastic Summer School!

Advantages: Fun, made lots of new friends, fantastic experience, learned a lot
