An Impressive Debut Album From Suzanne Vega.
Advantages: Good Songs, Fantastic Lyrics
Disadvantages: A Few Weaker Tracks
...One of the things about moving House as frequently as I do is that things tend to get boxed up and forgotten about. Even though I moved into my current House almost a year ago I am still getting around to sorting out some of my stuff. One advantage of this laziness however is that from time to you rediscover something that you had forgotten you owned and in my case I recently stumbled across a whole batch of CD's.
Amongst this hoard was a CD from Suzanne Vega, simply entitled Suzanne Vega. It is hard to believe that this Album was originally released as long ago as 1985.
This CD contains ten tracks as below:
1. Cracking
2. Freeze Tag
3. Marlene on the Wall
4. Small Blue Thing
5. Straight Lines
6. Undertow
7. Some Journey
8. The Queen and the Soldier
9. Knight Moves
10.Neighbourhood Girls...

FREE DVDs
Advantages: Free trial, large choice, post included, new realeases
Disadvantages: see review
...I like movies and I like freebies, so when you get offered both in one swoop you?re bound to accept! I used my two week free trial with this company and remained with them for a couple of monthsbefore moving on to try many other companies free trials (and winning a new DVD player on Tesco DVD rental site on their free trial offer). I then had an email from DVDs 365 asking me to go back, and offering me a free DVD if I did so. I had just left Tesco (with my new DVD player) so I chose to go back with them.
∆◊◊ THE SERVICE THEY OFFER ∆◊◊
Basically it?s like going to a video shop and hiring films on DVD, except you don?t pay for each film you chose ? rather a monthly fee for which you can watch as many movies as you can fit in, for us this is usually around 8 a month (2 a week usually weekends...

Suzanne Vegas definitive moment
Advantages: 21 brilliant songs, great lyrics
Disadvantages: a couple of weak links
...Suzanne Vega is an artist I have always admired. Deeply rooted in folk rock, inspired by Dylan, Cohen and Lou Read and the intelligensia pop of The Smiths and The Police she has had a careeer that has spanned the eighties to the present day. Vega has never been afraid to experiment and to push her song writing abilities harder and with more courage than many other artists, she has always seen music as an art form and followed it with purity and passion. This 21 song retrospective and its 7 track bonus cd show her talents perfectly.
'Luka' I guess is the song most associated with Suzanne Vega. Melodic folk rock and sung from the heart. A song about abusive violent relationships. A beautiful tune masking disturbing lyrics 'yes i think I'm ok. I walked into the door again.Well, if you ask thats what I'll say and its not your...

Surprising Picture Quality - Panasonic DVD-S54
Advantages: Incredible picture quality when compared to my old non-upscaling player with a scart lead
Disadvantages: Sometimes disc drive can be really noisy when DVD's initially load.
...At first I wasn't convinced by up-scaling DVD player technology but was persuaded after reading an article in "What Hi-Fi? Sound and Vision" magazine. Unable to afford a Blu-Ray player my sister and I bought the Panasonic DVD-S54 to match our parents brand new Panasonic TX-32LZD80 LCD television as their Christmas 2008 present. Admittedly it was a slightly selfish purchase as we both live at home and wanted to watch DVDs on the big new TV ourselves! We bought the player from the electrical retailer Comet for about £100 just before Christmas so there were no discounts applied.
On Christmas day when opened we found a relatively small box tightly packed with the player in polystyrene packaging. All the components such as cables, remote and manuals were well presented in their own protective plastic bags, to keep them protected. The player...

How would you face up to the Hunger Games, at 16 years old?
Advantages: very cleverly written, really good, brilliantly gripping!
Disadvantages: the cover as explained in review!
...I picked this book a few months ago, maybe longer than that. I've been uming and aring about it ever since, thinking whether or not I really want to read this. I think what interested me in buying this book was Stephenie Meyer's opinion of: "People often ask me for reading suggestions, and I'm always happy to share because books are exciting things to me. My latest excitement is this: The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I was so obsessed with this book I had to take it with me out to dinner and hide it under the edge of the table so I wouldn't have to stop reading. The story kept me up for several nights in a row, because even after I was finished, I just lay in bed wide awake thinking about it. I've been recommending it to total strangers in Target. And now to everyone who reads my website. The Hunger Games is amazing." But then I...

Laying the ghost?
Advantages: an intriguing storyline
Disadvantages: disappointing characters
...I knew I was taking a bit of a risk reading ?A Ghost at the Table?, as it does not fit in with the usual books I read. However, I like to extend my reading horizons at times, the blurb on the back of the book was quite intriguing and it had received a number of good reviews so there was a good deal of promise. I?m not going to say that I disliked the book, because I didn?t, but it just didn?t grab me in the way that lots of books do and as a consequence, I admit to finding it hard going. I hate to give up on a book though so I did stick with it but it was a bit hard work at times!
The Ghost at the Table is set in the US and is written by Suzanne Berne, who has won the Orange Prize for another of her novels. It takes place one Thanksgiving and focuses on a highly dysfunctional family as they get together to celebrate. The story is told...

A remarkable debut album
Advantages: Great lyricist, this is her best album
Disadvantages: Not the best singer ever
...As a teenager Suzanne Vega wrote songs on medieval themes. This is evident in her first album, which includes songs like "Knight Moves ": "Watch while the queen, in one false move / Turns herself into a pawn / Sleepy and shaken, and watching while the blurry night / Turns into a very clear dawn" and "The Queen and the Soldier", which is almost more like a story than a song. In these two songs, Vega explores the differences between the sexes, and the way that we cannot fully understand each other. (I think).
On a lighter note,"Freeze Tag" and "Small Blue Thing" evoke childish games, with their imagery of marbles and playing tag in the playground, yet there is a darker side to these songs as well, with a hint of fragility and vulnerability: "In the wintertime / In the dimming diamonds / Scattering in the park / In the tickling...

SUZANNE STONE WANTS TO BE A SOMEBODY...
Advantages: satirical, fantastic performance from Kidman, interesting viewing, how will it end?
Disadvantages: Dillon's performance, can't really be found cheaply and can be hard to find
...***TO DIE FOR***
Suzanne Stone wants to be famous. More than anything in the world. Like the title of my reviews says, she believes you can only be somebody if you're on tv - she wants to be somebody. And she's not going to let anything or ANYONE get in her way - not even her husband! Even if it means murder...
This is the premise of the Gus-van-Sant directed media satire "To Die For". This film was originally released in cinemas in the mid 1990s and is probably the role which propelled Nicole Kidman into the major league as she was nominated for a BAFTA and won a Golden Globe for her portayal of Suzanne Stone.
The film essentially begins at the end, where we see that Nicole's husband Larry (Matt Dillon) is dead. The story itself is told partly in documentary style - there are interviews with the people close to Suzanne...

Patterson, But Not As We Know Him.
Advantages: A nice romantic story
Disadvantages: Unfamiliar Patterson
...The description of 'prolific writer' has possibly never been as appropriate to anyone as it has to James Patterson. He writes books faster than I can read them and I'm no slow coach when it comes to reading. His usual genre is crime thriller with a particular emphasis on writing books within a series - the Alex Cross stories and the Lindsey Boxes stories being possibly his most famous. But, every once in a while he wanders off his own well-beaten path to try something new, whether it be a psychological mystery, a children's tale or an historical novel.
I don't think he has ever wandered quite so far off the path as he has with his novel Suzanne's Diary for Nicholas, the book that was described by one critic as 'clever, light and as welcoming as an ocean breeze'. Not exactly what you'd expect from 'the master of suspense'!
*So...
