Swallow hotel (Kirlangic)
Advantages: Close to town centre and market
Disadvantages: not allowed own drink into rooms. No air conditioning
...It was last year that my wife and I stayed here. The hotel name was in Turkish which was called "The Kirlangic". This means swallow.
The Hotel sits on the main road into the town and right opposite one of the entrances to the market which is on every Monday. So if you have a room facing the road you will be awake early (4 oclock ish). At the time only some rooms had air conditioning. The rooms are small in comparison to a lot of hotels in the area but you only sleep in then anyway. They are clean and fresh.
I found the staff friendly, even more so if you speak a bit of Turkish (but dont let them know its only a few words, it keeps then on thier toes) they feel you are making an effort. You are close to all the bars and shops where you need a good haggling technique.
The grounds of the hotel has a pool which is big enough to...

Top Hotel at Excellent Prices
Advantages: Great Food, Family Friendly, Relaxed atmosphere, Great Value.
Disadvantages: Not very appealing from the exterior
...The Glasgow Swallow is a well equipped comfortable and friendly Hotel, located a short distance outside the city centre but in an area with some of Glasgow's best attractions. It is an excellent choice for families and great value for money.
I have been to the Swallow in Glasgow with my family many times. From the outside the hotel is quite unimpressive, inside is a different story. It is well decorated and well laid out. As you walk in the door you have a reception desk in front of you, the dining room, bar and lounge to the left and lift, stairs to rooms and ballroom to the right. The main entrance has a small fountain, disabled access and is under an overhead walkway. Opposite the main door is the entrance to the leisure suite, which has a swimming pool, Jacuzzi and small gym. The leisure suite also provides beauty treatments, so...

LOOKING A GIFT HORSE IN THE MOUTH
Advantages: Food. Service. Location. Comfort. Value. Facilities.
Disadvantages: Dated decor & Fittings. Bar Service & Prices
...Please note that whilst Ciao rates the Preston Swallow as a two star hotel - all publicity material relating to it, as well at the hotel itself, shows this as a three star hotel.
WHY DID WE BOOK THE SWALLOW PRESTON?
The weather turning nasty and the nights drawing in signal the time of year for RICHADA to play Santa Claus with the customers, going out and about, shaking hands and delivering calendars and company literature. The majority of our business is actually done some way north of Watford Gap, which involves us staying away from home, usually for a period of three nights at a time.
Needing a base in the Preston / Blackburn / Burnley area, we usually finish up going to where most of the hotels are located, Blackpool, Lythan St Annes, or even on one, not to be repeated, occasion Southport. Without giving away any state...

"YOU'LL NOT LIKE THIS VIEW Mr R!"
Advantages: Value. Room. Food. Ambiance. Service. Location.
Disadvantages: View. Bread.
...WHY DID WE BOOK THE BOWER HOTEL - CHADDERTON?
As is usually the case, there were a combination of reasons for this, ranging from price - an internet bargain, through a very convenient location, to our recent entirely satisfactory experience at the Preston Swallow hotel, the Bower is also owned by the Swallow group.
When doing business in the Manchester area we usually stay at the Innkeepers Lodge in Stockport, which we rate highly. The Bower however, as a "proper" hotel, offers a rather broader range of facilities and also turned out to be, on this occasion - in late November - a cheaper option too.
HOTEL DESCRIPTION / OUR PERCEPTION FROM HOTEL PUBLICITY
Whatever the publicity material may tell you, knowing the area as well as I do, it would have been surprising to find anything other than a "business" hotel in this location...

Fairy Frolics (Swallowing Darkness - Laurell K. Hamilton)
Advantages: fun, occasionally
Disadvantages: awful writing
...Summary: reasonably enjoyable if there is nothing better, lively, trashy fantasy
"Swallowing Darkness" is the seventh Meredith Gentry novel and the first one I read. Despite that I had no problems at all in following the plot - even though there isn't that much obvious exposition in the novel.
Meredith NicEssus is a faerie princess in a slightly alternative world (i.e. US) where faeries are known by the humans - a treaty allowed them to settle in the US three hundred years on the condition that they don't engage in war or make humans worship them.
The faerie courts are obsessed by purity of blood and even more so by purity of looks and Meredith, who is mortal, curvy and has not just human but also lesser fey ancestors, flees the Faerie and starts working as a private investigator in the human world. But her disguise ends when...

Swallows And Amazons - not for Duffers
Advantages: Heart warming, endearing, beautiful descriptive writing
Disadvantages: Younger readers could struggle with long description and technical sailing terms
...Swallows and Amazons - Arthur Ransome
~~~Setting~~~
Swallows and Amazons was written in 1930, an adventure story aimed at children and the first of a series of 12 novels for which their author is most well known. Set in the Lake District, it follows the adventures during one summer holiday of the Swallows (brothers and sisters John, Susan, Titty and Roger) as they camp on an island of adventure, make enemies and then friends with the Amazon pirates (Nancy and Peggy), solving mysteries and chasing thieves. It is a very tame, but very charming novel, seemingly enjoyed by children and adults alike.
I bought and read it earlier this year after visiting a permanent exhibition on Arthur Ransome in the Museum of Lakeland Life in Kendal. It is so evocative of the Lake District that it is a pleasure to read for this alone.
~~~The Plot...

By George, it's good!
Advantages: Reasonably priced, good location, good range of facilities, friendly staff
Disadvantages: Decor is tired and old; bathroom could have been cleaner
...I have just stayed here for one night, on business.
LOCATION
The hotel is very easy to find, being on the A61 through Harrogate (the Ripon Road). It is centrally located so you can walk into the touristy bits of Harrogate from here if you want. It is right next to the International Convention Centre, which is where I imagine it gets a lot of business - that's why I went there. Its central location is a good point.
It is a beautiful Edwardian manor house, in nice grounds.
FACILITIES
It has the usual dining room, bar etc, and a leisure suite too. It has a quite a small swimming pool and a gym and weights room, plus a sauna. This is all useful stuff, if you were staying a bit longer than one night, but I didn't try and of it so sorry I can't comment. It did all look clean and there were obviously plenty of towels etc...

Treat Her Like a Lady...
Advantages: sumptious surroundings & food. Excellent customer service. Value for money
Disadvantages: One or two very slightly shabby areas. I don't like buffet style breakfasts.
...A few weeks ago I decided it was high time I had another treat (I am very good at this) and was in the mood for some sumptuous swankiness (when aren't I?). I decided to surprise my lovely fella with a weekend away in Suffolk. After a good google my search was narrowed to two nice looking country hotels on the outskirts of shopping centres. I am all for the whole countryside nature walks thing but a girl still needs to shop you know. One hotel had no room so it was the Belstead Brook hotel on the outskirts of Ipswich we were off to!
I booked over the phone and was very pleased with the politeness, efficiency and friendliness of the receptionist. She confirmed prices, times and directions. I booked a breakaway deal so the price was £69.50 per person per night; not cheap, but not excessive as it included dinner, bed and breakfast...

Hard to swallow at first but easy to digest later
Advantages: tender and movivng
Disadvantages: The first few chapters
...An interesting or unusual title makes a book more alluring to the reader. I have often picked up a book on the strength of the title alone. When the novel "Swallowing Grandma" by Kate Long was suggested at my book group I had to vote for it, as I was curious about such an odd title.
The book is a coming of age saga centred on the life of 18 year old Katherine Miller and her unconventional family in Banktop, a fictional mining village supposedly between Wigan and Bolton.
Katherine lives with her professional northerner of a grandmother Poll, as her father died before she was born and then her mother abandoned her shortly afterwards. The book is about Katherine's (or Kat as she wants to be known) quest to find herself and ultimately her mother. Katherine's story is intertwined with her mother's tragic story of coming to terms...

A Lovely B&B In Snowdonia
Advantages: Beautiful Location, Good Price, Great Bar
Disadvantages: A little way outside of Betws-Y-Coed
...A couple of months ago my wife and I decided to go away for a couple of days over the first May bank holiday weekend. Usually this would entail a trip to a far flung European city but as she would have just returned from a 4 day business trip to Malta, we thought a UK trip would be better. Thanks to a suggestion from one of my wife's colleagues, we decided that we would find a B&B and go and climb Snowdon. Having spoken to my parents, they and my sister had decided that they would like to come too.
Unfortunately, this plan was slightly harder than we had anticipated as most B&Bs in the region were only allowing stays for the entire three days of the weekend and we were only wanting 2 nights. However, after much searching, just as we about to give up, we came across the Swallow Falls hotel which would allow us the two night stay and was...
