Wi not trei a holiday in Sweden this yer?
Advantages: Lots of lovely museums, pretty trees, beautiful islands and buildings
Disadvantages: Expense of food and alcohol
...for the taxi at a driver, who took us to our hotel, and said ?140 krone, please?. We pointed out that we?d already paid, he picked up a phone and had a long, angry-sounding conversation with someone, before smiling and saying ?OK!?. I will here point out that the taxi?s windshield had a very ominous looking crack all the way across it, which might say something about the standard of driving among Stockholm?s cabbies.
Things to do:
Museums:
There?s a huge variety of musems in Stockholm, with entry costs varying from 40 krone to 75 or so. I?ll describe for you the ones I went to, and mention a few of the others available.
Vasamuseet: The Vasa is Sweden?s answer to the Mary Rose (Henry VIII?s flagship, which sank in the Solent on her maiden voyage). Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628, and was preserved almost intact on the seabed (in...

Design hotel in Stockholm
Advantages: Design hotel, good breakfast, nice area
Disadvantages: Not in the very center of the city
...I have been in the "Rex Hotel" for a long weekend in April 2008.
The area
The hotel is situated in a quiet street 10-15 minutes walking from the center. In this area there are a lot of supermarkets (including one Lidl), restaurants (Italians, Chineses) and a lot of take aways. There is also a 7eleven that closes around 11.00 pm.
The hotel
When you enter at the hotel you can see the reception, a sofa and a internet desk (free to use). Our room was in the first floor and it was nice. Not huge but with space enough to have a table, a chest of drawers and a sofa.
The bathroom is quite impressive with black stone in a very design style.
In the room there are available two bottles of sparkling water and a detailed dossier of the attractions of the area with a lot of useful information. You can access free of charge to...

Shopping in Stockholm
Advantages: lots on offer
Disadvantages: on the expensive side
...I have yet to meet a person who goes to Stockholm to go shopping, but that does not mean that it is a boring place to shop. Quite on the contrary. Even though Stockholm is Sweden’s capital, shopping is not a particularly rushed experience and it is easy to ignore all the Stockholmers rushing around the way people tend to do in bigger cities. If in the town centre, the main shopping streets are Hamngatan and Drottninggatan. This area is where you can find the department stores, NK and Ahlens for example, shopping centres, for example Gallerian, and second hand clothing shops, for example UFF(excellent value).
For antique shops, second hand shops and boutiques, my suggestion would be to go to Gamla Stan, the Old Town. It’s an island, easily accessible from Drottninggatan, and is full of small shops and also art galleries...

Living in Stockholm
Advantages: People, Scenery, Cleanliness, Safety, Public Transport
Disadvantages: Nightlife, Cost
...I lived in Stockholm for about 18 months. I'd say possibly the best 18 months of my life.
I was a little worried about moving abroad as a 21 year oid. Not only having to take care of myself for the first time but having to survive all that in a foreign country. I was pleasently surprised at how friendly everyone was, and the support they gave me.
People love to practice their English with you, at first it's great everywhere you go people will speak in English for you, but as i was living there i wanted to learn the language, which got hard when everyone speaks english too you.
The place was extremely clean. It's so nice to walk around a city, exp3ecially a capital and not see rubbish everywhere. Being from England this is especially true.
Living in stockholm you get the best of both worlds. You have the vibrant city...

A leisurely walk to the city (and topless Swedish blondes)
Advantages: Excellent location, good facilities, nice bar
Disadvantages: Could get a windowless room
...?Learys Sportsbar, which I didn?t go to, but I am familiar with the chain and the spicy chicken wings are famous across the city.
OTHER FACILITIES
I didn?t use any of these, but they apparently also offer concierge, conference facilities, currency exchange, dry cleaning, fitness studio, garage, indoor pool, laundry service, limousine service, massage, room service, sauna and spa.
CONCLUSION
Overall, this was a very amenable hotel. The location is excellent, even taking into account my personal nostalgic angle. The facilities are reasonable and the room acceptable. This seems a decent recommendation for a hotel fairly close to the centre of town. Unfortunately (for you, anyway) I can?t comment on the price as this was a company rate.

No ice bears, folk-costumes or clogs ?
Advantages: City with nature and water nearby
Disadvantages: Expensive
...buildings such as a glasswork to name one. At fridays in the summertime the whole of Skansen fills up with thousands of people as “Allsång from Skansen” is being broadcasted live on TV with famous artists singing their own songs as well as Swedish folksongs. So, avoid Skansen at a friday. :-)
You can do some serious shopping in Stockholm. Don’t expect to save any money though, Sweden is an expensive country and with our currently strong currency tourist-ing here becomes expensive. If you don’t live in the actual city of Stockholm just catch the tube and go to “Centralen”. All tube-lines pass here so you cannot miss it. Make sure to follow signs towards “Sergels torg” or you will end up at our domestic train-station (nothing wrong with that, but it isn’t where you were going). You will come up from the underground and be standing next to...

Venice of the North - only it's not sinking
Advantages: Cant fit into 15 words
Disadvantages: Not the easiest city to get to with Budget airlines
...is that the train journey to Stockholm is very cheap and very stunning. You glide through forests and over lakes in the modern sleek trains. Well worth flying out to Vasteras. Swedish trains are amazing. The train was schedules to arrive at 12:53, and we arrived at Stockholm at 12:53. Stunning compared to the UK. This was not a one off either. That same week, my friend went from Oslo to Stcokholm by train, and it arrived at exactly the right time. How far is it from Oslo to Stockholm? So rail travel is cheap and fast and reliable. The best way to explore Scandinavia.
Once in Stockhom, we checked into our over-priced hotel (somethong like the viking hotel), which was right outside a metro station, but was also outside street works. A better recommendation would be the Youth Hostel, which is on a boat, and is acclaimed as one of the best...

Perfect Week-end Break
Advantages: Pretty, good food, walkable, Ice Bar
Disadvantages: A litle pricey
...I went to Stockholm in the last weekend of January 2005, here are my thoughts.
We arrived at the main Arlanda airport which is modern, clean and eerily quiet and sailed through passport control. Within 15 minutes of landing we'd picked up our bags and were waiting for the Arlanda express into the city.
At £15, this train is pricey but it's about the same as the Heathrow express. You can take a bus at half the price and twice the time or take a taxi and spend the best part of £50.
The trains run every 15 minutes or so, are very clean and comfy (there are video screens showing the latest news) and within 20 minutes you are in the centre of town (unlike the Heathrow Express which leaves you stranded a taxi/tube ride away from anywhere).
We stayed at the Nordic Light hotel - a designer type affair (think Schraeger) located in...

Watch that Wine
Advantages: Lots to do, very clean.
Disadvantages: None.
...comes true. In one restaurant, amusingly entitled "Rolfs Kok", we paid over £60 for two main courses and two glasses of wine. The wine cost over £10 per glass.
It was extremely nice food and lovely wine, but come on! Needless to say they didn’t receive a tip. Sad really. I would have tipped them, because like everywhere else I went in the city, the staff were very friendly, spoke perfect English and were extremely helpful.
Our hotel was located about ten minutes walk from the city centre. For this reason we walked everywhere and didn’t use public transport. However, Stockholm seems to have a very complete transport system. It has a tube system, buses, trams, boats and taxis. The only time we did use the train was when we caught the dedicated train from the airport to the centre. 20 minutes each way, directly from under...

Sweden! a lttle taste of Paradise!
Advantages: Clean, clean, clean!!! friendly locals, good transport, beautiful atmosphere-natural and cultural
Disadvantages: Expensive
..., no tax rebates for us unfortunately!
That came as a bit of a shocker, as I didn't realise just HOW expensive Sweden actually was. I mean i knew it was expensive but that much. So flying out there and arriving with a bundle of jumpers and 2 sets of warm boots wasn't ideal as Sweden seemed to be having some sort of unusual heat wave. So that was a good excuse to shop! Just looking around we noticed that things are a lot more pricy than in London. For a basic singlet top was about £15!! But as we walked further, we spotted a tourists shopping heaven...a clothes factouy outlet called titt-ins!!! I bought 3 summer top for a total of £15! and they were really lovely as well!
When we arrived in Stockholm for the last couple of days, we did have to budget and went to a local supermarket and bought what was necessary for our stay.
