Ain't seen nothing yet
Review of General: Sweden by
From_The_Continent
Advantages: beautiful landscape, friendly people, relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages: very expensive
...) There is an EU summit in Stockholm this weekend and I thought it would be a good idea to write the corresponding travel opinion.
Right answer: None of the above.
The truth is that in this short period of time I have seen enough to promote Sweden to you and to know that I will come back for a much longer visit. In just one day, Sweden has impressed me with its plentiful nature, sweet little cottages, beautiful lakes and marinas, and its friendly people. And it has provided me with a perfect moment on a wonderful birthday (stop grinning, Angus, I'm not talking about the bedroom scene).
So I decided that I should write about it, and let you into my short, but wonderful encounter with Sweden. I have done just a little bit of extra research to back up my opinion, and hope that you will let me get away with it.

All about Sweden
Review of General: Sweden by
apo11o
Advantages: Beautiful country, beautiful women!
Disadvantages: The beer is too expensive!
...I go to Sweden every other month as my girlfriend lives there. I have been there about 10 times now. Sweden is a lovely country to visit, I can certainly recommend it. You'll find Sweden is cold in the winter, especially if you visit the East, or the North, however it has good summers, probably better than we have in the UK. My knowledge of Sweden does not yet extend to the North.
Most Swedes can speak English, so you don't need to worry about not being able to communicate with the locals! There is some lovely countryside in Sweden as well as several large and exciting cities. In the country you're free to walk or camp on public land, more or less wherever you like. The country has many lakes, which make popular spots for swimming in the summer, as well as some rocky landscapes and forests not too dissimilar to UK ones in terms...

Sweden - cold, blond and alternative
Review of General: Sweden by
ciao_jenny
Advantages: The beautiful nature, the independent-rock scene
Disadvantages: The lack of "nightlife" during the week
...I once met a man from Portugal who was convinced that Sweden had an abnormal high percentage of suicides during Christmas. According to a popular song in his country, the people in this dark and cold nordic country got so depressed during the long winter that they killed themselfes. As far as I know, this is not at all true. Though if you visit Sweden in November or December you might think he had a point – it can be very dark and cold, especially in the north.
But if you are looking for snow, it’s to the north of Sweden you should head – and there is usually plenty of it. From the early autumn to early May you can go skiing in one of the many skiing resorts, or try more unusual things such as the Ice Hotel (as the name might suggest, it’s a hotel built out of ice, with a temperature of minus four degrees centigrade inside). Though...

erm....simply Sweden ( cheese i know )
Review of General: Sweden by
oofie
Advantages: fresh air, mooses, tree huggers paradise
Disadvantages: alcohol laws and mosquitoes
...to book and hotel at the " airport" on our return but this put a stop to that. Anyway, Stockholm is an amazing city, full of amazing people and shops and buildings and whatever you do if you go, take the Viking \tour boat aroudn the archipelago of Stockholm...with fab food and authentic mead and crazy crazy crew dressed as vikings - its a must. If you are venturing north, one place you must land is Rattvik on the Siljan lake...its picture perfect, the lake is like a mirror and so shallow and clear that swimming in it is a dream. What i found amazing about Sweden is the number of lakes, and the way Swedish people are just so used to driving along the roads, stopping at lakes, stripping off and splashing / swimming around in them. Being English, i was not used to this and felt quite reserved at shedding my shorts and vest...by the end...

Southern Sweden Adventure
Review of General: Sweden by
helenmayclark
Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: a lot of rain
...was very peculiar and probably would have been put to better use just as a swimming pool.
On our last day of our holiday we met returned to Kalmar, back over the bridge from Öland. Once in Kalmar we visited the town museum which we were told is home to an exhibition on the sunken warship, Kronan. We had visited the Vasa museum in Stockholm the previous summer (which is restored 17th century ship) so were expecting something similar. We were very disappointed to find out after a 2 hour guided tour in Swedish that they had only recovered relics from the warship, as the actual boat was still underwater!
It was now time for us to make our way home. Four hours later we were finally home and it was time to end our Southern Sweden Adventure.
**Prices**

There is more than blondes here
Review of General: Sweden by
CICLISTALOCO
Advantages: natural scenery
Disadvantages: mosquitoes
...Sweden's location and the fact it is more than 2,000 Km long, provide it with a variety of climate, which make it a good travel destination all year.
In summer, one of the best attractions are the evenings and nights when the sun goes down for very few hours only, the more you go North, the more of the daylight you get. You can either choose to go natural, and relax in one of the well organized camping sites, or enjoy the night life in Stockholm. Be aware, though, that drinks do not come too cheap this part of the world!
If lakes are one of the attractions for the tourist in summer, it should be noted that mosquitoes can be pretty nasty in June and July.
In winter, ice and snow provide the intrepid tourist with unique opportunities, from skating along iced rivers and lakes, to skiing in relatively unspoilt resorts.

Living in Sweden
Review of Member Advice on Living Abroad by
helenmayclark
Advantages: Learning a new language, gaining confidence, new friends, visiting new places
Disadvantages: expensive country to live in, miss family and friend
...I am English and have been living in Sweden for just over a year so thought I would share some of my thoughts of what its like to here. This is not so much advice instructing other people on how to move to Sweden and the rules and regulations here, but rather my experiences and opinions on living abroad. (However if anyone does want to know a bit more about the rules and regulations moving here let me know and I'll try and help)
**Where am I?**
I live in a small town called Trollhättan, which is about 70km north of Gothenburg. There are about 52,000 inhabitants here and the town lies on either side of a river and canal system, which flows from Gothenburg through the centre of Sweden to Stockholm. Trollhättan's main claim to fame is that the Saab factory is situated here, and it is Saab that generates most of the revenue around here...

Sweden! a lttle taste of Paradise!
Review of General: Sweden by
Tink27
Advantages: Clean, clean, clean!!! friendly locals, good transport, beautiful atmosphere-natural and cultural
Disadvantages: Expensive
...unfortunately!
That came as a bit of a shocker, as I didn't realise just HOW expensive Sweden actually was. I mean i knew it was expensive but that much. So flying out there and arriving with a bundle of jumpers and 2 sets of warm boots wasn't ideal as Sweden seemed to be having some sort of unusual heat wave. So that was a good excuse to shop! Just looking around we noticed that things are a lot more pricy than in London. For a basic singlet top was about £15!! But as we walked further, we spotted a tourists shopping heaven...a clothes factouy outlet called titt-ins!!! I bought 3 summer top for a total of £15! and they were really lovely as well!
When we arrived in Stockholm for the last couple of days, we did have to budget and went to a local supermarket and bought what was necessary for our stay.
Sweden is a beautiful and genuine place. When...

Taylor's rotten turnips vs the Great Danes
Review of Everything that starts with E ... by
pinkmatchstick
Advantages: European Championship 1992
Disadvantages: -
...was played on 10 June in Stockholm; hosts Sweden took an early lead before being pegged back by the great French striker Papin and the game finished 1-1. England were expected to sweep Denmark aside the following night but were fortunate to escape with a 0-0 draw. They played out the same scoreline in their next game, an insipid 90 minutes with the French, and Sweden got the upper hand in the group by beating their near neighbours Denmark 1-0 (goal from Brolin, later the pie-eater of Leeds Utd fame).
The final two group games kicked off together, England had to beat Sweden and France needed just a draw against Denmark. Wild celebrations all over England as Platt did what no other player in a white shirt had done so far (that is score a goal) and for the first 45 minutes England were superior in all departments. An early 2nd half...
