Wi not trei a holiday in Sweden this yer?
Review of Stockholm (Sweden) by  Muswell

Advantages: Lots of lovely museums, pretty trees, beautiful islands and buildings
Disadvantages: Expense of food and alcohol

...at a driver, who took us to our hotel, and said “140 krone, please”. We pointed out that we’d already paid, he picked up a phone and had a long, angry-sounding conversation with someone, before smiling and saying “OK!”. I will here point out that the taxi’s windshield had a very ominous looking crack all the way across it, which might say something about the standard of driving among Stockholm’s cabbies. Things to do: Museums: There’s a huge variety of musems in Stockholm, with entry costs varying from 40 krone to 75 or so. I’ll describe for you the ones I went to, and mention a few of the others available. Vasamuseet: The Vasa is Sweden’s answer to the Mary Rose (Henry VIII’s flagship, which sank in the Solent on her maiden voyage). Vasa sank on her maiden voyage in 1628, and was preserved almost intact on the seabed (in pretty good nick... Read review

Southern Sweden Adventure
Review of General: Sweden by  helenmayclark

Advantages: see review
Disadvantages: a lot of rain

...room was a huge swimming pool surrounded by stuffed animals, which was very peculiar and probably would have been put to better use just as a swimming pool. On our last day of our holiday we met returned to Kalmar, back over the bridge from Öland. Once in Kalmar we visited the town museum which we were told is home to an exhibition on the sunken warship, Kronan. We had visited the Vasa museum in Stockholm the previous summer (which is restored 17th century ship) so were expecting something similar. We were very disappointed to find out after a 2 hour guided tour in Swedish that they had only recovered relics from the warship, as the actual boat was still underwater! It was now time for us to make our way home. Four hours later we were finally home and it was time to end our Southern Sweden Adventure. **Prices** Sweden is thought... Read review

Shopping in Stockholm
Review of Stockholm (Sweden) by  mariesimone

Advantages: lots on offer
Disadvantages: on the expensive side

...I have yet to meet a person who goes to Stockholm to go shopping, but that does not mean that it is a boring place to shop. Quite on the contrary. Even though Stockholm is Sweden’s capital, shopping is not a particularly rushed experience and it is easy to ignore all the Stockholmers rushing around the way people tend to do in bigger cities. If in the town centre, the main shopping streets are Hamngatan and Drottninggatan. This area is where you can find the department stores, NK and Ahlens for example, shopping centres, for example Gallerian, and second hand clothing shops, for example UFF(excellent value). For antique shops, second hand shops and boutiques, my suggestion would be to go to Gamla Stan, the Old Town. It’s an island, easily accessible from Drottninggatan, and is full of small shops and also art galleries... Read review

erm....simply Sweden ( cheese i know )
Review of General: Sweden by  oofie

Advantages: fresh air, mooses, tree huggers paradise
Disadvantages: alcohol laws and mosquitoes

...to book and hotel at the " airport" on our return but this put a stop to that. Anyway, Stockholm is an amazing city, full of amazing people and shops and buildings and whatever you do if you go, take the Viking \tour boat aroudn the archipelago of Stockholm...with fab food and authentic mead and crazy crazy crew dressed as vikings - its a must. If you are venturing north, one place you must land is Rattvik on the Siljan lake...its picture perfect, the lake is like a mirror and so shallow and clear that swimming in it is a dream. What i found amazing about Sweden is the number of lakes, and the way Swedish people are just so used to driving along the roads, stopping at lakes, stripping off and splashing / swimming around in them. Being English, i was not used to this and felt quite reserved at shedding my shorts and vest...by the end... Read review

No ice bears, folk-costumes or clogs ?
Review of Stockholm (Sweden) by  KarinJonsson

Advantages: City with nature and water nearby
Disadvantages: Expensive

...buildings such as a glasswork to name one. At fridays in the summertime the whole of Skansen fills up with thousands of people as “Allsång from Skansen” is being broadcasted live on TV with famous artists singing their own songs as well as Swedish folksongs. So, avoid Skansen at a friday. :-) You can do some serious shopping in Stockholm. Don’t expect to save any money though, Sweden is an expensive country and with our currently strong currency tourist-ing here becomes expensive. If you don’t live in the actual city of Stockholm just catch the tube and go to “Centralen”. All tube-lines pass here so you cannot miss it. Make sure to follow signs towards “Sergels torg” or you will end up at our domestic train-station (nothing wrong with that, but it isn’t where you were going). You will come up from the underground and be standing next... Read review

'Stockholm in a pint glass'
Review of Stockholm in general by  Bakerboykev

Advantages: 'Pre-parties', 'Norrlands Guld' and superb transport links.
Disadvantages: High alcohol prices, weak beer and strict bouncers.

...Overview… I was recently invited to visit a friend in Stockholm, who claimed to be 'researching' land-use in the city as part of his final year dissertation. As you can imagine, this turned out to be more of a cultural drinking experience, rather than visiting Stockholm as a tourist! For those of you who are that way inclined, here follows my experience of Stockholm through the eyes of a pint glass. Stockholm - A Brief Introduction… Stockholm is the capital of Sweden, and also considered to be the capital of Scandinavia. The city was built in the 13th century around Lake Mälaren, allowing the taxation of merchant vessels going in and out of the lake. It is built across 14 islands and is sometimes known as the 'Venice of the North'. Stockholm is renowned for its clean drinking water along with freedom of its waterways... Read review

Design hotel in Stockholm
Review of Rex Hotel, Stockholm by  nispero

Advantages: Design hotel, good breakfast, nice area
Disadvantages: Not in the very center of the city

...I have been in the "Rex Hotel" for a long weekend in April 2008. The area The hotel is situated in a quiet street 10-15 minutes walking from the center. In this area there are a lot of supermarkets (including one Lidl), restaurants (Italians, Chineses) and a lot of take aways. There is also a 7eleven that closes around 11.00 pm. The hotel When you enter at the hotel you can see the reception, a sofa and a internet desk (free to use). Our room was in the first floor and it was nice. Not huge but with space enough to have a table, a chest of drawers and a sofa. The bathroom is quite impressive with black stone in a very design style. In the room there are available two bottles of sparkling water and a detailed dossier of the attractions of the area with a lot of useful information. You can access free of charge... Read review

Living in Stockholm
Review of Stockholm (Sweden) by  idaviesuk

Advantages: People, Scenery, Cleanliness, Safety, Public Transport
Disadvantages: Nightlife, Cost

...I lived in Stockholm for about 18 months. I'd say possibly the best 18 months of my life. I was a little worried about moving abroad as a 21 year oid. Not only having to take care of myself for the first time but having to survive all that in a foreign country. I was pleasently surprised at how friendly everyone was, and the support they gave me. People love to practice their English with you, at first it's great everywhere you go people will speak in English for you, but as i was living there i wanted to learn the language, which got hard when everyone speaks english too you. The place was extremely clean. It's so nice to walk around a city, exp3ecially a capital and not see rubbish everywhere. Being from England this is especially true. Living in stockholm you get the best of both worlds. You have the vibrant city... Read review

Watch that Wine
Review of Stockholm (Sweden) by  bridgendboy

Advantages: Lots to do, very clean.
Disadvantages: None.

...comes true. In one restaurant, amusingly entitled "Rolfs Kok", we paid over £60 for two main courses and two glasses of wine. The wine cost over £10 per glass. It was extremely nice food and lovely wine, but come on! Needless to say they didn’t receive a tip. Sad really. I would have tipped them, because like everywhere else I went in the city, the staff were very friendly, spoke perfect English and were extremely helpful. Our hotel was located about ten minutes walk from the city centre. For this reason we walked everywhere and didn’t use public transport. However, Stockholm seems to have a very complete transport system. It has a tube system, buses, trams, boats and taxis. The only time we did use the train was when we caught the dedicated train from the airport to the centre. 20 minutes each way, directly from under... Read review

Ain't seen nothing yet
Review of General: Sweden by  From_The_Continent

Advantages: beautiful landscape, friendly people, relaxed atmosphere
Disadvantages: very expensive

.... --------------------------------------------------------------- In search for Alba, or "Where the hell is the Aronsborg?" --------------------------------------------------------------- Of course Alba didn't show up at the airport as she had promised. She had told me that she was staying at the Aronsborg Hotel, "in a suburb of Stockholm". Just to be on the save side, I called the hotel to ask for a route description. The "suburb" turned out to be the small town of Balsta, 35 miles northwest of Stockholm, and 30 miles west of Arlanda Airport. When the taxi driver had finished looking up Balsta in his road map after five minutes, we could finally take off. The taxi ride lasted almost an hour and took me on small roads through endless forest of birch trees and conifers, only occasionally separated by fields, lakes and small villages. And here Sweden immediately caught my imagination: I had to think... Read review
