Ashes To Ashes, Dust To Dust?
Review of Ashes To Ashes - Series 1 - Complete DVD by
MizzMolko
Advantages: Philip Glenister as the wonderful Gene Hunt, some funny moments.
Disadvantages: Poor casting, trying too hard to be Life On Mars
...with really odd make up! I won't spoil exactly who pops up in case you haven't seen it but it ties very much in with the Bowie music video of 'Ashes To Ashes'.
CAST AND CHARACTERS
Although if you've seen the original show you'll be fairly familiar with many of the characters, a lot has happened in the eight years since we saw the gang drive off into the sunset in that copper Cortina. Although on the surface many of them may have stayed the same, it's obvious that some incidents depicted on screen had a huge impact on the way some members of the team looked at policing.
DCI Gene Hunt (Philip Glenister) - Known from Life on Mars as the absolute epitome of hard men, Gene Hunt is the show's biggest comedy asset; Glenister has a way of barking out the Chief Inspector's one liners in a hilarious but completely believable fashion. However...

Ashes to Ashes - Lust to Lust!
Review of Ashes To Ashes [Digipak] - Various Artists by
KarenUK
Advantages: Some good tracks
Disadvantages: Some weak tracks
...I'm not usually a big fan of soundtrack CDs. Sometimes they work and the music is evocative of a great film or television series. But often, the music tracks are too varied and you'll find you like some and hate others.
But I decided to buy the soundtrack CD to Ashes to Ashes, because the music is integral to the television series and while watching it, I often remarked on how good the music was. Ashes to Ashes is set in 1981 when I was 11-12 and fairly regularly buying singles, so I did think it would be worth buying this album.
The 1980s theme of the series is great and it is reproduced well in this CD. The album has twenty songs from the time, plus a couple of short interludes and the theme tune to the TV series. It lasts a total of 69 minutes.
The CD is a Digipak version, whereas I really prefer the more sturdy box...

the best way to see Ash - live
Review of Ash - Free All Angels Promo tour by
andrew_kenrick
Advantages: Ash, live, in front of me
Disadvantages: it had to come to an end
...name of the tour: Free All Angels
venue: Wulfrun Hall
city: Wolverhampton, England
date: 28th April 2001
As the train hurtled through the rain towards Wolverhampton, my mind was cast back to the last time I saw Ash live in concert. That day will be forever ingrained in my memory as it was my first concert ever, and because it was something of an adventure in itself to get there. It was October, 1998, and Britain was experiencing some of its worst weather in a decade. Ash were playing at Hereford leisure centre, about an hours drive from my house. Unfortunately, Hereford is a riverside town and so a little prone to flooding. As we neared the outskirts of the town we were confronted by the police who politely informed us that the only way into Hereford, over the river and through the town centre, was blocked because...

History of the Ashes Sport DVD
Review of History Of The Ashes DVD by
costas1234
Advantages: Read Opp
Disadvantages: Read Opp
...Back in 1882 a test match series between England and Australia started a regular feature for cricket fans. The 1882 series provided a victory for England, and it was the Australian's who got a request granted to play a fourth test match, and whilst they won, it was England who got to keep the famous ern where the ashes are kept. The series is played every 2 years, though only once every 4 years back here in England.
This DVD last 2 hours 11 minutes, and it provides a historical platform in terms of cricketing. Clips shown of great catches, supreme batting performances, and legendary bowlers of cricket's all time, hall of cricketing fame. It also is interesting to see how the War affected English cricket.
The results of the Ashes are mainly Australia's dominance of the Ashes tournaments, whereas England's succes in this strongly...

Ash- Intergalactic Sonic 7's
Review of Free All Angels [ECD] - Ash by
jennykellett
Advantages: Catchy songs
Disadvantages: A couple of songs which should not be on it
...What can i say... this album is packed full of Ash goodness. They've released 4 albums, and this is a round up of the best tracks of those 4.
Tim Wheeler is a fabulous song writer and guitarist, the songs he writes are catchy, and good quality. Some bands nowadays release such rubbish, unfortunately some people still like it. But if you want well written rock/pop songs, both lyrically and musically, head straight for this album!
Ash have been around for quite a while- nearly 10 years, and have kept getting better and better.
Here is a round up of the tracks on the album:
BURN BABY BURN
What a track! Very catchy, quality tune. "burn baby burn!" Ash really slam it out, and get into it. Nothing bad about this song, great bass line. One of their best ever.*****
ENVY
This track is only on this album. It's pretty good, good...

From The Ashes...
Review of From The Ashes - Pennywise by
heideroosjes
Advantages: Quality songs throughout
Disadvantages: Same Pennywise sound becomes a little tedious
...the band's music ever since.
California's most widely recognised punk rock quintet, Pennywise, are back again with 'From The Ashes', their 8th studio full-lengther.
It is a remarkable improvement from their sub-standard last offering, 'Land Of The Free' 'From The Ashes' is a portrayal of what is right and wrong with the United States, jibing in part at idolatry and misguided patriotism and pointing out in 'God Save The USA'that it is the President, not the country who is to blame.
The title track, 'From The Ashes', extraordinarily bolts out front on this album, and tells of how youth should be savoured, with lyrics sich as "we can we go back to those days/where everything was simple, and nothing could ever change/Can we go back to those days/we didn't ever care at all/I wish I could remain back in yesterday'. Pennywise vouch...

An Ash Smash
Review of Meltdown - Ash by
utero
Advantages: No Weak Tracks, Heavier Sound, Live Bonus CD
Disadvantages: None
...Back in the day when Britpop was all the rage, there were a bunch of young upstarts who released a record called Kung Fu. It was popular on radio and soon Ash were starting to get some notices. The debut album 1977 was full of punky pop anthems such as Oh Yeah and Goldfinger, needless to say the album was a huge success. The second album Nu-Clear Sounds represented a more heavier experimental sound and with it came disappointing sales. 2001’s Free All Angels marked a blend of the previous two albums with some punky hard-edged anthems such as Burn Baby Burn coupled with refined song writing on Shining Light. 2004 sees the release of Ash’s fourth studio album entitled Meltdown and if you’ve liked their previous stuff then I’m glad to say that it doesn’t disappoint.
The record opens with ‘Meltdown’. It’s a good indication of what...

From Ashes to Ashes, to Bones To Ashes.
Review of Bones to Ashes - Kathy Reichs by
runetune
Advantages: Another absolutely rivetting story from Reichs
Disadvantages: Over far too soon.
...Bones to Ashes by Kathy Reichs.
~ ~ The Book Series explained ~ ~
This is the tenth book in the Temperance Brennan series. The books have subsequently spawned a TV series called Bones. I have to say, if you're a fan of the TV series, there are marked differences in the books, even so far as differences in main characters so don't be surprised if you pick up a book to find Angela et al aren't popping out of the page at you but this shouldn't stop you from picking up a Kathy Reichs Temperance Brennan book because while different, they still have something compelling to offer.
~ ~ Book Synopsis ~ ~ *
Under the microscope, the outer bone surface is a moonscape of craters and Tempe isn't any further forward discovering what has caused the surface to look like this.
The skeleton is that of a young girl, no more than fourteen years...

The Ashes - The Greatest Series
Review of The Ashes - The Greatest Series (Box Set) by
carl.mcqueen
Advantages: A collection of the greatest test series of them all
Disadvantages: Special features lack substance
...Last summer two teams came together in a sport still seen by many in this country as boring and personified by old men being "frightfully nice" and eating cucumber sandwiches. By the end of it, it had enticed a whole nation into it's hypnotic spell, as well as being a unique sporting event.
England vs. Australia, otherwise known as The Ashes, takes place every two years - once in England, then in Australia, yet the small urn has been held by the Aussies ever since England last won in 1987. Yet the patriotic Englishman had some reason to be cheerful and optimistic this time around with players like Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison and Marcus Trescothick turning from good international players to great ones in the past 18 months. Yet no one could have forseen the drama that was to unravel:
The first of the 3 disks in the box...

Ash, contender for my album for the year
Review of Free All Angels [ECD] - Ash by
Chris_Padden
Advantages: Most tracks are excellent, Great guitar music and lots of catchy chorus and melodies on the songs
Disadvantages: One bad track, Submission
...‘Free All Angels’ is my second Ash album I have brought, and although it is not as loud as ‘Nu-clear Sounds’ it is still full of quality from start to finish
I loved ‘Nu-clear Sounds’ and you can still hear some of the feel of that album in this, so don’t be put off if you enjoyed that, as some tracks are not dissimilar. ‘Free All Angels’ mixes it well and is just as good for Ash fans. The lyrics are all well written and meaningful if you listen to them properly, and there is a good selection of loud tracks such as ‘Shark, ‘Cherry Bomb’ and quieter, but just as good ‘Someday and ‘Candy. A very good album, and I have heard they are awesome in concerts, so go along if you have the chance.
1 – Walking Barefoot – 4.13
A great opening...
