You may have heard the food item 'yam' used in America, well this is 'them'! They have a brown somewhat scruffy looking exterior and tend to be longer and thinner than your usual spud. A Fishy Chow - Tesco's Smoked Haddock & Sweet potato Chowder

Advantages: Easy and quick to serve, very tasty.
Disadvantages: A little expensive for the amount

...I love smoked fish is any form, so when shopping inTesco and looking for something a little different for my lunch, this packaged Smoked Haddock Leek & Potato Chowder caught my eye. The soup from Tesco's Finest range cost £1.79 - which I suspect may seem quite expensive for a packet of soup but I decided to give it a try. The packaging of was very attractive and eye catching. Consisting of a pouch with a distinctive picture of the raw ingredients of the soup an the front along with the nutritional guidelines. The pouch contained 400g soup which I thought would be enough for two portions with bread. On opening the pouch there was a very distinctive odour of smoked haddock, not unpleasant or overpowering but quiet subtle. Sweet Potatoes - Excellent for babies

...Sweet potatoes are a wonderful vegetable in my opinion. More people should use them - go on try them! I first used them when my 3 year old daughter was a baby, as they were recommended for weaning. They go lovely and soft when cooked with a consistency more like squash/marrow than potato. They have a lovely sweet flavour and bright colour which makes them an attractive food for a baby or small child. After this first use of them - I started experimenting with other uses that they could be put to, for myself and not just my child. I found they were a really tasty alternative to mashed potatoes (specially with a knob of butter!). They are also wonderful roasted and have a lovely sweet flavour and creamy texture. ...I was first introduced to sweet potatoes when my eldest child, now 7, was a baby. A lot of the information I received on baby weaning recommended sweet potatoes as an ideal weaning food, and this was how I first used it. I am no great cook, but I can prepare basic family meals, neither can I afford to spend too much money nor waste it on foods that my children will not eat. I used sweet potato as a weaning food, firstly it was on its own and then over time I added other vegetables. I cook my sweet potato in the microwave, they are very easy to prepare. A quick wash and then peel, I then cut them into chunks and place in a microwaveable dish and microwave until soft, usually about 7-8 minutes, depending on how many I am doing at a time. When they are cooled I just puree them down with a hand blender and feed to my baby when needed...

...I eat absoutley loads of potaotes. My favourite is always Jacket/ baked potaotes but now and again I opt for mash; crushed; dauphinaise; new pots etc... I can hoenstly say I will usually have a baked potato with every single dinner of the week (unless I'm have pasta obviously, lol). I remember being in Asda down the veg seciton picking up our usual 2 5kgbags of potaotes (seeing as I eat them all) when I spotted these odd looking things, both sold in bags and loose like normal potatoes. The sweet potato slightly resmbles a normal potato from the exterior except they are longer and usally chunkier. Also, the skin looks and feels a bit like a tree trunk rather than being smooth. It's brown, quite speckly and has little lumpy bits. They aren't any more expensive than regular potatoes, probably £1.29 for a bag of 5 big ones. Sweet...

...I have to say that the majority of main meals in our house include the humble potato. But when you sit and think about the potato it is not as humble as it makes itself out to be. When we were children no meal was complete without either roast, boiled or mashed potatoes. It was a rare occasion that chips appeared on the menu and my Mum fried her chips in a frying pan in shallow fat, they were rationed and we probably had around ten chips each! As times have changed so have eating habits and now many people favour pasta or rice rather than the potato. Advantages: An easy way to make Bombay potatoes, very tasty, cheap and great value for money

Due to a bit of a shortage of normal potatoes I once had to use sweet potatoes. This was an absolute disaster and they tasted awful so I would recommend not using sweet potatoes with this spice mix. Using premium tinned tomatoes in this dish is just pointless as the spice mix is so potent you won?t actually taste the tomatoes. Because of this I use Tesco value tomatoes and these work brilliantly. They are a perfect consistency as well as being very cheap.
