Advantages: Cheap and cheerful
Disadvantages: Not really what you would serve to impress at a posh dinner party

...'t have a cork, it has a screw lid, this instantly made me think I had brought a very cheap wine here. I unscrewed the lid and started to pour some in my glass. I was amazed at how rich the colour was a very nice deep purple red. I had expected for some reason a very washed out colour and was surprised. In true tradition much to the amusement of my partner I swished the wine around my glass and then popped my nose in and took a deep sniff. It smelt rich and oaky it made me imagine wooden barrels and there was just the slightest hint of sweetness possibly some sort of fruit but I couldn't distinguish what. So now to taste, again I wanted to do it the right way so popped a small amount in my mouth and swirled it round, now I really wish I hadn't done that as what I tasted was not as nice as the smell, there was a distinct bitterness...

Tesco Australian Red Wine

Advantages: Cheap
Disadvantages: Not something to serve at a party until everyone's drunk!

...Let's face it, you're buying this for £3.00 a bottle. However, MUCH better than some of the chemical crap (e.g. Cape Crossing Cabernet Sauvignon - chemical crap) that some producers pass off as wine in the same price band. It's somewhat acidic with very little body - but who cares at this price? It DOESN'T taste of chemicals and plastic. Better than most cheap table wines, can't go wrong with this - but make sure your guests have had a bit of the good stuff and are a bit pissed before you get the cheap one out. If you want better for your buck do a wine run to France and buy there - but not cheap French wine, it sucks (and they only sell it to stupid Brits like us!)....

...UPDATED FURTHER!!!!!! I buy a lot of my wines direct from Laithwaites wine company based at New Aquitaine House, Exeter Way, Reading and they are great. There is one wine in particular as I am a red wine lover caught my eye on the laithwaites website that is only available from mid June to mid July each year called Pigassu nicknamed the black pig and comes from France. I have found it great with very many meals. It is very full bodied and has a very smooth sweet taste on the palette and the nicest of very many other french red table wines I have tried over the years. As far as comparisons against other French red table wines that I have tried over the years is it's unique quality. It is totally naturally produced from the best red french grapes, well matured 2002 vintage or whichever year you buy it after, like next years...

...Austrailian Red Wine, South Eastern Austrailia selected by Tesco. I am no connoisseur at describing wine, but I could recommend this one. My wife does not even like red wine, but even she found this one pleasant. It is as it says on the bottle "A SMOOTH, MEDIUM-BODIED RED WITH BERRY FRUIT FLAVOURS". Though perhaps being pregnant made my wife normally a non red drinker tollerate this bottle and enjoy it to some extent, and I found it nice enough to ask her to buy it again from Tesco again and I enjoyed it the second time just as much as I did the first time. Describing any kind of flavour is a difficult task for me, but with some kind of wines especially red it is easier to describe what you don't like about them, rather than what you do. The label recommends the red wine for serving with lightly grilled red meats or full flavour cheeses as a table wine . However I find it an enjoyable drink at any meal be it mid day or early evening . Likewise a glass is pleasant without food after a late shift at work . The Wine ************* This J P Chenet wine is produced in the South of France . The neck label states it was produced in 2006 . The grapes used to produce this wine are - Cabernet Sauvignon -70% Syrah - 30%. Officially the nose is 'Notes of cherries, blackcurrants, green peppers, licorice and spices' I don't know about that but it is definitely fruity and easy to drink...

Quick Veggie Panini UGO's Deli Cafe Four Cheese & Sweet Red Onion

...There is a new quick snack / meal that can be prepared easily at home - UGO's deli cafe paninis. I was in Sainsbury's the other day and noticed them in the sandwich cabinet. The packaging is lovely - not that 'fast foodie' - it is pretty and looks kind of organic. You don't have to toast them or anything, so no cleaning out the sandwich toaster. All you do is put the panini in the microwave for two minutes! I tried the Four Cheese & Sweet Red Onion Chutney panini yesterday and it was delicious. Just like you get in a deli. I think the special packaging makes them cook as though they have been toasted. The cheese ouzes out when it comes out of the microwave. However Forum Cabernet Sauvignon Wine Vinegar is not something that should be sprinkled on Fish and Chips, this is one of those posh vinegars designed to enhance salad dressings, although its uses do not stop there. This vinegar is a very good seasoning aid and can be used in all sorts of sauces to enhance the flavour, for example a splash added to a tomato based sauce will really bring out the sweetness of the tomatoes. It also makes any salad very special just adding to the leaves after salt, pepper and olive oil, as well as being used for any recipe that requires the use of red wine vinegar. ...blackcurrant juice. I'm not one for all this wine tasting guff that you hear on TV, but I'll have a go. I think it smells like those bags of summer fruits that you can get in the freezer section. It seems to have hints of blackberries and raspberries and smells really fresh. The Taste Well it really is exactly what it says on the bottle: soft and fruity. It tastes quite mellow and fairly sweet for a red wine. Its got a hint of tartness, just as you get if you eat blackcurrants or blackberries, but doesn't taste at all vinegary. I can drink a full bottle easily and it's a nice basis for a fruit punch or Sangria. The Price and Availability I bought my bottle for £2.99 on sale in the dreaded but useful Kwiksave.
