Netgear WGR614 54 Mbps Wireless Router
Advantages: Easy setup, great customer support, good price
Disadvantages: None
...In short: Excellent router, easy to set up and good support from Netgear.
I bought this modem router from Ebay to set up a wireless home network. Depsite paying AOL money each month and seeing new customers getting this router for free we were told that we would still have to purchase it separately. As this was one of the AOL compatible routers I plumped for it due to Netgear's good name.
The router was installed easyily and using AOL software from their site my main computer was up and running using an ethernet cable. We did have a couple of problems setting up our two laptops to work wirelessly but one short call to Netgear and that was all sorted out. If you don't have laptops with built in wireless capability I would recommend getting the compatible wireless adapters from Netgear, these also are installed very easily. Even...

WG602 54 Mbps Wireless Access Point
Advantages: Good features, repeater and bridging modes
Disadvantages: Minor installation problem
...Here's the story. I have an existing wireless network. The access point is in the office in the loft. I have a laptop I wander around with (as you do) and there is a PC on the ground floor. On a good day with a strong wind, the downstairs PC gets a weak to medium connection. All too often though it is intermittent or fails completely. Web browsing is quirky and the whole experience is less than satisfactory. The bottom line is that despite being well within the theoretical range for wireless devices, there are just too many walls, floors and sundry other obstacles getting in the way.
There are several things you can do do improve the signal but most are more suited to open spaces. One option that would help in this situation is to use a pair of access points in repeater mode. After a quick look around, Netgear's WG602 looked like...

Netgear DG834G Wireless ADSL Router; perfect home solution
Advantages: Reliability and value for money.
Disadvantages: Operating temperature.
...In my opinion this broadband ADSL router is one of the best on the market considering its price.
I have been using this model (I've had different versions) for a number of years and never have I known one to fail; this is especially impressive considering I never turned them off when in use. I am a very heavy internet user and when configured correctly delivers on the speed that you would expect.
In terms of 'plug and play', there is very little needed to be configured on this product to start surfing away and it comes with a single quick start sheet that shows clearly how to access the configuration page through a web browser initially.
For more advanced users it is very easy to configure port-forwarding (useful when playing online games or downloading via peer-to-peer to achieve the desired connection speeds). It even supports VPN...

The web, wirelessly.
Advantages: All-in-one package, ease of use, advanced features.
Disadvantages: Price
...expensive wireless technology, and my research around the internet led me to the Netgear 54Mbps Wireless ADSL Firewall Router (with 4 port switch). Phew, what a mouthful, eh? This set up would mean that the PC beside the phone point would be physically connected to the router whilst the PC at the top of the house would be connected wirelessly which solves all my problems!
I can hear you all running away in terror at the horrible jargon, so stop! Return! I shall try to explain to you what this is all about.
I suppose the best place to start is the ADSL part. You probably know ADSL better as Broadband. Broadband is a fast internet connection (depending on the speed of the most common broadband connections it can be between 4 and 10 times faster than your ordinary modem connection). ADSL is generally associated with BT telephone lines. If you...

The most cost effective router "routed out"
Advantages: Affordable and reliable
Disadvantages: Difficult to set up
...and checking my emails. For this reason I was not prepared to pay a large amount for the router.
2) Speed
Whilst I wanted a cheap router, I expected a certain amount of quality of speed of internet from it. Whilst 54mps is I believe the slowest speed you can get nowadays, I had heard from a friend that it was perfectly sufficient for the everyday tasks mentioned above.
3) Ease of setup
Whilst I know a little about computers, I did not want the hassle of having to go through complicated procedures just to get my computer onto the internet.
My purchase was the "starter kit" Netgear WGR614 Cable/DSL 54 Mbps Wireless Router, from Argos. I paid £56.99 for it as of early August 2008. Note that I did not buy the router on its own; Argos offered in this starter kit a USB adapter or "dongle" as I shall refer to it from now on. This is essential...

Excellent wireless router
Advantages: easy setup, works great
Disadvantages: None
...I had recently bought a second laptop for my wife and needed a wireless router badly so that both of us could access internet simultaneously and wirelessly.
So i searched around for a decent reliable router. i came across this one and bought it from amazon for 30 quid.
It supports 802.11b and 802.11g. It has 4 wired ports so that 4 computers can be connected simultaneously. It doesnt have a USB port.
Setup : it came with the setup CD and it took around 15 - 20 mins. since it involves computer restart. I have a Virgin broadband connection so had to connect this router to the modem supplied by virgin. A ethernet wire is provided with this kit. Had no problems at all with the setup.
The installation needs to be done with the computer wired to the router. Also configured the router settings after logging into the router...

Unwired and ready
Advantages: No cables
Disadvantages: Some technical difficulties, but not Sweex fault
...the Xbox apparently requires a special adaptor and a further investment of £60. Anyway the physical impossibility to connect the Sweex adaptor meant a re-think. We left if for a few days while I gathered as much info as I could, and then it struck me?????..wireless the old computer in my son's room and then simply connect the Xbox via a short wired connection to the old PC. ONLINE
The bundle is exceptional value and in most cases there will be very little hassle in setting up your wireless network, setting up our from PC to PC was simple. There are probably ways round our particular problem but according to the internet many have had similar problems no matter which brand of wireless router they attempted to use. The manual gave us all the info we needed to complete the job, just Microsoft being Microsoft which actually created...

Router minefield!!!
Advantages: ease of setup,reliable connection
Disadvantages: not the fastest on the market
...When looking to go wireless in the computer world it is an absolute minefield when it comes to wireless routers/modems. I sat at my latop(tethered to the telephone socket with wires) scouring google for write ups about this router and that router when i came across this one. Now this is rated as being the best selling router/modem in the UK and has been for some time. I think i paid around £40 from ebuyer.com. I chose it because of the fact its reasonably priced. Its a good trustworthy brand and it seemed to come up to scratch on speed.
Upon opening the box the installation was very simple indeed. I just followed the instructions that came with the router and hey prsto i was wireless on my laptop.Software is easy to install and self explanatory. Its not the fastest band of router on the market but for what i needed it was ample...

Today, I am coming to you via.....
Advantages: Never let me down, small footprint
Disadvantages: Can't think of a single one
...up different laptops on the wireless network and needed WEP keys etc etc the routers diagnostics/set up software has always given me the info I've needed through its rather dull but efficient interface.
Reliability
------------
Never once had a problem with it. The range is well beyond the reaches of our fence and we get connection all over the property even though the router is downstairs, which isn't the best place for them. Due to small hands fiddling, the part where the aerial screws onto the base has become cracked but isn't effecting anything.
Connections
--------------
The router transmits at 54Mbps. There is no significant differe Apart from the wireless connection, there are also 4 ethernet ports to wire computers directly. There is no significant differerence on the conection speed between wireless and wired...
