Bath University Swimming Pool

Advantages: 50m means lots of pool space.
Disadvantages: Small female changing rooms and limited spectator seating for large competitions

...I have swam at this pool a number of times for various competitions. There are some excellent things about it - The top one being that it is an Olympic sized swimming pool (50m) and there is a severe lack of those in Britain compared to other European countries.Being a 50m pool makes it excellent to train in as there is more space for swimmers in each lane. It is also good for long course swimming competitions. Furthermore, the water temperature is just right when I have been there and is not too hot and not too cold. Bath is not one of the most accessible cities although the pool is only a 10 min bus ride from Bath train station. However, there are some negative aspects to it - one being that there is not a large amount of seating in the spectator galleries so hosting big competitions here would be a problem. ...If you were in a quiz, and the question master asked, ?where in Britain can you find an Olympic size swimming pool built to the standard of the Sydney Olympic pool?. Come on answer please. Well I couldn?t answer the question. People wonder why our swimmers don?t win many medals, or break world records. How are we expected to compete with the rest of the world, unless we build the proper facilities for our athletes? A Gratuitous Study in Dull, Soft-Core Pornmaking

Advantages: Nice shots of pool; glimpses of the Luberon region.
Disadvantages: Sophomoric acting, gratuitous nudity, sex, story - in short, a gratuitous movie!

...Of the few films I've seen by French director François Ozon, it has been more miss than hit with me so far. I was intrigued by 'Under the Sand/Sous le sable' (2002), the stark yet strangely moving portrayal of a middle-aged woman who finally comes to terms with her husband's sudden and inexplicable disappearance while on holiday at the beach. It was an interesting film that played like an open-ended Hitchcockian mystery. The only miss for me until now was the much-lauded ' 8 Women', a musical murder mystery farce that nonetheless failed to deliver on all counts, despite the game presence of some high wattage French stars like Catherine Deneuve, Isabelle Huppert and Emanuelle Béart. MY BIG 10FT SWIMMING POOL

Advantages: Entertaining for the children and adults
Disadvantages: The garden has to be dead level. WARNING NOT FOR UNDER 6 YRS OF AGE

...First i will tell you the technical stuff. 10ft x 30in/300 x 76cm. Includes pool, cover, instructions and filter pump. Drainage plug connects to hosepipe. Size: depth 76, diameter 300cm. Water capacity 4296 (805) litres. -Laying of the pool- I have to say i had a big job to get it layed. first you have to blow up the ring around the pool (pump recommended) You have to make sure it is completly flat and not wrinkled. You must fill it a little so that you can take the creases out. It takes roughly about 4 hrs to fill so do it in the morning and by the time the kids come back from school its filled for them. You can buy chlorine for it ,which is recommended. WARNING You must have a flat surface not like me and put it on unlevel grass. Make sure you put some sort of underlay on the ground because water...

SWIMMING!!

Advantages: Great way to keep fit. Great fun
Disadvantages: Early starts for training, Alot of hard Work

...of land training. Land training consists of mostly strength work, press ups and sit ups for example. This is probably the hardest part of a weeks training for me because I am not the strongest of people but I am getting a lot stronger because of this training. Then on the Friday session it consists of much more max effort work and technique work. Training is very hard and to make it to a high standard of swimming you need to be training hard from a young age. It's never too late to become a fast swimmer though. I think that if you took someone who couldn't swim a length and trained them properly for a few months they could swim a 200m front crawl without being tired. I also think that anyone can be the best in the world but you need to spend soo much of your time in the pool training and you would loose a lot of your free time and wouldn...

Poole in all its Glory

Advantages: Lovely area plenty to see
Disadvantages: Beaches can get busy

...Bournemouth with less people but still a healthy trade and loads of new faces. The town's shopping centre has many shops including Marks and Spencer, Boots, Monsoon and Oasis these top names continue down the high street which in turns flows on to the quay itself. There are plenty of cafés' and food outlets which will allow you to take the weight off your feet. Other than shops and the quay there is the Poole Museum home to the Poole Longboat, an Iron age boat found off of Brownsea which has been treated and restored and is now proudly on display. To Swim or not to Swim?

Advantages: Keeps you fit, gives you a challenge, gives you self confidence, makes you feel good!
Disadvantages: Swimming requires a swimming pool, if you don't have one near by then you are a very unlucky!

ABOVE GROUND SWIMMING POOLS

Advantages: They are such fun for all the family, visitors and your neighbours :)
Disadvantages: Can be costly to maintain but far cheaper than day trips or a holiday abroad

Salt pools are normally used abroad in large swimming pools as they are more cost effective but they are also a godsend if you have one of the larger above ground pools here in the UK, or fortunate enough to have a built in ground pool. The nice thing is that the pool doesn't seem salty and is so much nicer than the strong smell of chlorine which can be an irritant to many. Solar covers or blankets as they are known are worth investing in if your pools does not come with one. Solar covers are a godsend for use with any pool whether it's above ground or built in. These come in various strengths from 200 microns to 500 microns. Most above ground pools that come with a solar blanket usually only come with the 200 micron type.
