Team Building at the Swindon Hilton
Review of Hilton, Swindon by
kelr101
Advantages: Dedicated Business Floor, Comfortable accomodation
Disadvantages: Slight downfall on the food quality, small bar area
...Destination: Hilton Swindon, Swindon, England
Duration: June 22nd-24th 2004
Swindon, England
Swindon is a vibrant, lively town situated along the M4 corridor in the South of England. Entertainment, History, and Shopping can all be found in this bustling town, with such delights as the McArthurGlen Designer outlet store, Museum of the Great Western Railway and a beautiful countryside surrounding the town.
Reaching Swindon is very convenient with excellent transport links running into the city, and is merely an hour away from the Capital, London
Swindon Hilton Hotel
The hotel is located minutes of Junction 16 of the M4, conveniently placed for easy access for business visits, and social/personal events. I was actually arriving at the hotel by car, with a friend of mine; as we were due to attend a 3 day Team Building...

whats happening 2 swindon town fc
Review of Swindon Town by
mad_for_hardhouse
Advantages: we can play good football sometimes
Disadvantages: fighting a relegation battle already
...I have been following swindon town since i was five, my dad used 2 always take me to watch the town and over the years we have had some very good players and have shown great commitment. Those days seem 2 have long gone .
Managers like lou macari and glenn hoddle were great for the club and the players showed great commitment. Swindon currently are in the wrong half of division 2 and i have been to most home games this season. There is absolutely no commitment , no belief what so ever in the team.
* current manager *
The current manager at the moment is Andy King . He just sits in the stand with a cigar and a cup of tea but he says its for tactical reasons . He reckons he can see the game from a better angle and make changes but how are u supposed to get messages across to the players when u are sat in th stands. He also...

Swindon Town FC
Review of Swindon Town by
carl.mcqueen
Advantages: Ought to gain promotion this season...
Disadvantages: ...from League 2
...Swindon Town Football Club can now be found sat in League 2...just over ten years ago they were a Premiership team. Their fall from grace has been dramatic, not only from a playing point of view, but financially.
Their stadium, The County Ground in the middle of Swindon, is an all-seater stadium of just over 15,000, not that it'll get anywhere near being filled for a few more seasons until they are back in the top 2 leagues in English football (well, IF they are back in the top 2......)
For a brief history lesson, they were League Cup winners in 1969, after beating Arsenal 3-1 in the final, and won the 1969 and 1970 Anglo-Italian League Cup Winners' Cup, against Roma and Napoli respectively. Then, after an extremely quiet period, they gained promotion to the Premiership for the 1993-94 season after beating Leicester City...

SUICIDAL IN SWINDON
Review of The Thistle Hotel (Swindon) by
LostWitness
Advantages: Location
Disadvantages: Everything else
...My experiences of Thistle Hotels have not exactly been fantastic – you may recall that The Thistle Hotel in London only managed to get three stars in my review of last year. Sadly, on a recent visit to Swindon I was faced with an extremely bleak range of hotels to choose from, and reluctantly agreed with the travel agent to take the plunge and stay in The Swindon Thistle.
(Note: In order to facilitate meaningful comparison between hotel reviews, I have decided to implement a scoring system similar to that used in my food and drink opinions.)
LOCATION
Situated on Fleming Way, right in the town centre, The Swindon Thistle is very well placed for whatever purpose your stay is intended for. The hotel is roughly five minutes’ walking distance from the main train station, which is regularly serviced by trains to and from...

Swindon - Roundabout capital of the world
Review of Swindon in General by
pennii
Advantages: Good jod opportunities and shedloads of pubs
Disadvantages: Not many parks for kids and all the roundabouts
...I've lived in Swindon for most of my life, apart from 5 years spent in Somerset. When I was a lass, I hated this place but moving away for so long and returning has made me love my little home, roundabouts and all.
Even the hated 'magic' roundabout which caused my mum to fail her driving test when she stopped right in the middle of it, traffic coming at her from all ways. The poor lamb has never recovered and never driven again.
Swindon is the richest place in the uk, outside of London, and has job opportunities galore. Many people gravitate here, and to cope with the demand it's crammed with housing, but has a healthy mix of greenery and buildings. The area I live in is beautiful. It may be a council estate but is surrounded by trees.
Such a blend of people is another reason why I love it here. As a product of a mixed...

Swindon City all but name
Review of Swindon in General by
Ciren
Advantages: more jobs than people
Disadvantages: housing expensive
...Swindon in Wiltshire is now the fastest growing town in Europe.
It must be one of the few towns that has more job vacancies than it has applicants to fill them.
With a good, well okay, not at the moment, I'll admit, but usually a very good rail connection to London and other cities.
Swindon was put forward to become a City which I think it should be but the powers to be rejected it and well, that is another opinion to be written.
It is good for shopping with a very good shopping out of town outlet and very good nightclubs (so the younger members of my family inform me).
Houses are expensive and it is adviceable to try on the outskirts of Swindon.
Anyone born in Wiltshire are known as moonrakers after the story of thieves who threw their silver into a lake when they were being chased by a Policeman. Later a policeman...

swindons veiwed as a gay man
Review of Swindon in General by
swindonlad69
Advantages: all the venues are very close to each other
Disadvantages: not a huge choice of places to go
...although swindon is one of the fastest growing towns europe no one seams to have told the gay comunity as we have only just stepped up to being a three venue town the first is the cricketers arms this has gratly improved recently and is quite frendly. it is well located in the middle of the railway vilage in town centre and a short walk form the night club. it is well decorated and but there always seems to have the same people sitting in the same seats drinking the same drinks and talking about the smae people. the second place is the newly reopend mail coach in my opinion this is the better of the two pubs as it is much friendly and has lots of diferant people comeing and going at all times of the day and night the only draw back is its about ten foot away from the main area for pubs in swindon and this has caused a few problems...

Fitness first West Swindon
Review of Fitness First, Swindon by
zviito
Advantages: Great Location, Great facilitites
Disadvantages: not open 24 hours
...After months of vacillating about whether or not to join a gym I decided to join Fitness First in West Swindon. Fitness first has 2 branches in Swindon, the one in the west being closer to home - so I cycle there.
I arranged a visit over the internet, to view the facilities so I was taken around and shown everything before I signed up. I was also offered a free day at the site before I parted with my precious money.
An instructor sat down with me and showed me my membership options and wrote them down for me so I could go home and think about it. There was absolutely no "pushiness" so I was not pressured to join at all. The place speaks for itself.
There are always many joining specials and they change from month to month. When I joined I had no joining fee to pay and no membership for two months.
they make a free program...

IBIS hotel - Swindon
Review of Ibis, Swindon by
nigeofnewbury
Advantages: Cheap, easy to find, friendly helpful staff
Disadvantages: Needs refurbishing
...My wife and I stayed at the IBIS hotel in West Swindon last weekend as we were going to a friends 40th birthday party that evening and neither us fancied the lengthy drive home in the early hours of the morning.
We booked in for 1 night, planning to arrive on Saturday afternoon and leave on Sunday morning.
We chose the IBIS because we wanted a budget hotel and because it was located very close to where the party was being held.
Also, we could book in anytime after mid-day and didn't have to vacate our room until mid-day either so we could have a lie-in after the party if we needed to.
~~ Booking ~~
As I had found this hotel using the web, it made sense to book the same way - this can be done from the IBIS website (www.ibishotels.com/ibis) quite easily and you receive...

swindon till i die ... stevos guide to swindon
Review of Everything that starts with S ... by
super_stevo
Advantages: modern
Disadvantages: expensive
...For all of you people out there who don't know me I am a crazy and mad swindondian. I was born and bred in swindon and still unfortunate to live here.
My accent is nothing short of annoying and I sound like a farmer .How embarrassing is that and when ya have had one to many cid-ERS well that just puts the cherry on the cake.
Bristol is about 45 minutes down the road and there accent , thankfully, is completely different and totally annoying so we haven't got it too bad!.
The language in swindon is the same as proper english really but the same with most places you get all your slang words.
*history*
The name Swindon is derived from the Saxon words swine dun meaning pig hill or the hill were pigs were bred. Swindon is mentioned in the Domesday Book (1086). At that time it was a tiny village but by the late 13th century...
