DREAMS ---- Secrets buried in the past.......
Review of Tell Me Your Dreams - Sidney Sheldon by
hinasif76
Advantages: A great pastime, good suspence, very informative
Disadvantages: Might give you a chill at night
...INTRODUCTION
I have always been a great fan of Sidney Sheldon. I have read each and every one of his books. My favourite books are "If tomorrow comes" and "The other side of midnight". To tell you the truth I have read most of his books more than once. His books are always filled with suspense and thrill sometimes revolving around murder mysteries and sometimes descriptive and detailed information's of certain professions or occupations.
Sidney Sheldon always does his homework. He is always well informed with complete research about the surroundings and the topics involving the story lines.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR
Sidney Sheldon, A master storyteller, has earned international praise and recognition world wide. He is the winner of an Oscar, a Tony, and an Edgar Allan Poe Award, Sheldon has over 200 television scripts, twenty-five major...

Sheldon just gets better and better
Review of Tell Me Your Dreams - Sidney Sheldon by
vinodgm
Advantages: Suspense, Cant put this one down
Disadvantages: None
...She had read about stalkers, but they belonged in a different world. She had no idea who it could be, who would want to harm her. She was trying desperately not to panic, but her sleep had been filled with nightmares, and she had awakened each morning with a feeling of impending doom.
Thus begins Sidney Sheldon’s chilling novel, “Tell me Your Dreams”.
Three beautiful young women are suspected of committing a series of brutal murders. The police make an arrest that leads to one of the most bizarre murder trials of the century.
Based on real medical cases, Sheldon’s novel races from London to Rome to the city of Quebec to San Francisco with a climax that will leave the reader stunned.
This is how the books describes itself.
Sydney Sheldon’s ability to write novels like these is incredible. All...

A Reminder That Life Is Too Short....
Review of 501 Must Visit Cities - Bounty Books by
Essexgirl2006
Advantages: Good Coffee Table book; fun to browse through
Disadvantages: I'm never going to visit all these places without a large lottery win
...the text focuses on the history of the city, its culture and gives more details on places of note to visit. The format does vary to keep the book interesting - poor Bourgas in Bulgaria does not have a photo, and shares part of its page with Sofia.
The choice of which cities to include are, of course, subjective and the authors do not claim one city to be greater then any others. The cities that get two pages are for the most part (but not exclusively) what I would call major world cities - ones that everyone knows - such as Moscow, Sydney etc. Often this is down to larger photos than increased text. The size if a city is not a factor in its inclusion - Britain's' smallest city (St David's in Wales) is featured. Having visited Central America last year I was disappointed to note that some lovely cities were not included - the emphasis...

One of the best written fictions
Review of Rage of Angels - Sidney Sheldon by
kiran8
Advantages: a strong portrayal of a woman that you can identify
Disadvantages: Life seems very unfair to Jennifer, afterall she does need her share of happiness
...One of Sydney Sheldon's finest books. One can feel the pain and anguish of Jennifer parker , a Lawyer, in this brilliantly written fiction. The romance portrayed is touching .I personally like this particular story above all his other writings.
It is the story of struggle by Jennifer Parker to survive in the city of New york despite all odds..Two men come into her Life..Adam who helps her with her career in the beginning and then gets romantically involved with her, and the other man is Michael Moretti a powerful underworld don , with whom she gets involved out of compulsion
The portrayal of a strong woman, and the circumstances and the twists and turns that lead her life to unknown depths and the impending tragedy makes it a powerful portrayal. It is the kind of fiction that a strong self made woman can easily identify...

Three City Lives
Review of City Lives - Patricia Scanlan by
tracy2002
Advantages: easy to get into
Disadvantages: some more serious issues
...While browsing WH Smiths in Stanstead Airport just a couple of weeks ago I had trouble choosing my holiday read. I pick books up read the back and put them back on the shelf. One thing which is so silly that attracts me to a book is the colour. One shelf of brightly coloured books look more appealing than the shelf of plain, dull looking books (even though I am sure they're not dull)
I picked up Patricia Scanlan 'City Lives' it was the only one they had of hers. I knew she had done a few books because I have remembered seeing them in the book club magazine. I have never read any of her books before so I thought I would give this book a go. It is a brightly coloured book with a yellow background with bright pink writing and big pink flowers on it.
When I started this book I found it quite easy to get into. You are given...

Review of A Tale of Two Cities - Charles Dickens by
carpathian
Advantages: Can be read over and over.
Disadvantages: Complex chapter structure
...Charles Dickens
More of the man.
Anyone who made people poorer was a target for Dickens’ pen.
Quilp, the money lender from ‘The Old Curiosity Shop’ is described thus ‘As ugly a dwarf as you could see anywhere for a penny.’
Ebeneezer Scrooge from ‘A Christmas Carol’ is told to help others with his money or die a premature death.
Lawyers are portrayed as money grubbing parasites in many of his works and are often described as ugly people.
A Tale of Two Cities.
Trying to review a book without giving away the main story and spoiling the read for others is, I believe, the single most difficult thing to do. Many will think the review sketchy and vague, others will think the plot has been given away, what the heck, here it is. J
The story switches between France and England...

Flying Cities - You're kidding right?
Review of Cities In Flight - James Blish by
Sa1sysoo
Advantages: A very rewarding read
Disadvantages: ...but a challenging one
...Cities in Flight is a ground breaking book in the Sci-Fi genre, and unlike anything I've read before.
That's a pretty big opening isn't it?
The version that I picked up was the Sci Fi Masterworks version, meaning that I was expecting a book that would take me away from the usual concepts that I'd read previously, but I still wasn't prepared for this.
Cities in Flight is made up of four books, all revolving the central theme of two discoveries that change mankind. Firstly, it's the discovery of anti-gravity, or 'spin-dizzies' which form a bubble around something allowing them to travel faster than light, but without effecting gravity. This results in the title, as whole cities, such as New York and Budapest take to space, leaving a stagnating Earth behind.
The second discovery is anti-agathics, drugs that make humans unsuceptible...

SIN CITY
Review of Sin City - Frank Miller by
Paul32
Advantages: A classy tale of crime and retribution
Disadvantages: Oh ok it IS a comic book
...I may be in the minority in this view, particularly (judging by the lack of reviews of these products) on Ciao, so below is my vain attempt to change the view of at least one person who reads this.
The Sin City series first ran for thirteen months in ‘Dark Horse Presents’ a monthly anthology comic. The author/artist has worked on Batman: The Dark Knight, Robocop and Daredevil and he is highly acclaimed in his field. He is currently directing a film version of his work with Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk til Dawn, The Faculty, Once Upon a time in Mexico, Desperado) starring the likes of Elijah Wood, Brittany Murphy, Bruce Willis, Josh Hartnett and Jaime King. It is set to be a big success in 2005 when it is released, and then you’ll thank me for clueing you in now and helping you look knowledgeable at dinner parties!
Sin City is a dark...

Rome - The Eternal CIty
Review of The Eternal City - Domenica De Rosa by
bluejules
Advantages: Great Charcters
Disadvantages: None
...When I was in Asda with my mam a couple of weeks ago, I noticed they had lots of books on sale for £1. I immediately noticed this one as it had the Colosseum, Rome on the front. As Rome is one of my favourite cities I've been to, I decided to give it a try.
The Author
Domenica De Rosa was born in London in 1963 and wrote her first novel at 11 years old. She read English at King's College in London then went on to work in publishing. Her first book, The Italian Quarter, was published in 2004. She lives in Brighton with her husband and two children.
The Plot
"The De Angelis sisters - holier-than-thou Anna, beautiful Maria and tomboy Gaby - have always been competitive, never more so than for the affection of their father, Enzo"
Sadly, on the day that Gaby's first baby is born, Enzo dies. The sisters start...
