On Walkabout in Sydney
Review of Sydney in general by
helencbradshaw
Advantages: Weather, Scenery, Culture
Disadvantages: Too far from UK!
...--------------------
Now thankfully, this was always taken care of for me, on my initial trips, until the company found me an Apartment. (It was on the 7th floor in a brand new block in North Sydney, and if you leaned out far enough, you could juussstttt see the bridge!).
However, there is plenty of accommodation to be had from the luxurious to the borderline habitable! All the major hotel chains have hotels in Sydney, although I would avoid the Hilton as it is a wee bit dated, (but nothing wrong with it, so don’t panic if you have already booked it!).
Some of the best hotels are around the Darling Harbour area. If you want to go real cheap, there is always the Youth Hostel.
Quick Geography lesson: the Harbour Bridge connects the Area North Sydney, with the Main City. If you are going for a holiday, don’t get a hotel in North Sydney...

Sydney Marriott hotel... the best i've ever seen!
Review of Marriott Hotel, Sydney by
moo_trendy_cow
Advantages: You can see the most amazing view of the harbour.
Disadvantages: it is a bit pricey, but it's absolutely worth it!
...2 years ago, me and my Dad decided that we needed a long holiday, we wanted somewhere warm (to get away from the dreadful weather of England) and some place very far...
Money was a problem, but we decided that if we wanted a holiday to remember it would have to be luxury, so we decided on Sydney... as far away as we could get, down under!!!
We looked through many brochures and many websites, to look for a fantastic place to stay, I have to say the most appealing was the Marriotts. The pictures showed the most amazing habour, the water sparkling a lovely crystal blue, and all the buildings surrounding it looked magnificent, like it was coated with shine, the picture did not look real. We decided to go for it even though we knew it would be less than we hoped for, we thought the brochures had comercialised it and with a computer changed...

The Saville 2 Bond Street Hotel, Sydney
Review of Saville 2 Bond Street, Sydney by
JackieLittle
Advantages: Right in the centre of the action
Disadvantages: No real disadvantages.
...Stayed at the Saville in April 2007. I had heard mixed reports about it so was a bit apprehensive. The studio apartment was very well equipped with washer & dryer, dishwasher, microwave, full oven & grill and 2 TV's as well as DVD player and hi-fi. The lighting was a bit low especially in the bathroom, but on the whole the room was very comfortable and elegantly decorated
It was Easter weekend and there was quite a lot of noise on the first night from some girls in a nearby apartment, but after that no problems. The staff were polite but a little distant, and the concierge although helpful was a bit unforthcoming with information. We had to push him for more details than he seemed prepared to give.
The location is great, right in the centre on George Street, the main drag up to Circular Quay and the Rocks, and just off the main...

An Excellent First Class Hotel
Review of Four Seasons Hotel, Sydney by
sjljersey
Advantages: Central Location and Efficient Friendly Staff
Disadvantages: Pricy
...We visited Sydney in January 2004 and spent three wonderful nights staying at this 5* hotel.
Location
----------
The Sydney Four Seasons hotel is located overlooking the city's famous Rocks district. This gives you very easy access to the ferries which can take you to all the other resorts. It is also a short and pleasant stroll to the famous Opera House and Sydney Harbour Bridge. It is also close to the city's shopping and business districts.
To reach the hotel from the airport there is a shuttle service for a small fee and it will take about 20-30 minutes. If you really want to make it a trip to remember the hotel can provide a limousine service.
The hotel does have on site parking.
Arrival
--------
The reception area of the hotel is huge! Even though we arrived from the UK on the early morning flight they were...

Sydney - So good they should have named it twice
Review of Sydney (Australia) by
Looby5
Advantages: Breath taking, Awe inspiring and most of all Fun
Disadvantages: No, none - I loved it
...I landed in Sydney on Boxing Day evening 2003 armed with only my backpack and my Lonely Planet guide book for company. I was on my own, (due to being let down by the friend I was supposed to be travelling with) and determined to have a good time. Needless to say I didn't find it too much of an effort.
I had booked hostel accommodation as I was to be in Sydney until Jan 1st and knew it would be difficult to get anywhere on the day which from speaking to others proved to be a good decision. After clearing immigration I found the city shuttle outside ($8 au, refunded by hostel) I was at the Alfred park budget Hotel in Redfern, walking distance into the city in about 20 mins. I was in a 4 bed mixed dorm with a colour TV and fridge and felt at home straight away. Luxury it wasn't but it was clean and safe and besides I wasn...

STAR CITY CASINO: Sydney's Dazzling Gem
Review of Star City Casino by
becky_tredget
Advantages: A Great Night Out For a Meal, Theatre Production and Casino Spending!
Disadvantages: SPEND SPEND SPEND. Prepare to Use Lots of Money
...When i looked at the previous reviews for this I was astonished not only to find one review, but the fact it wasn't even about this casino! I felt compiled to write a review and give Star City Casino of Australia the proper review that it deserves.
During my travels around Australia i spent a month in Sydney (please see my other reviews about Sydney) and was amazed by the diversity of the attractions available. Star City Casino is one of the most extravagant, luxurious and star quality attractions that Sydney has to offer, whether you are a backpacker, on a hen or stag night or there on an adult family holiday.
The outside of the building is utterly impressive adorned with lights (the firework name "Star City" formation was fantastic), moving escalators, cascading waterfalls and water features, extensive plants and trees...

TWISTING BOTH WAYS IN SYDNEY
Review of Stamford Grand North Ryde, Sydney by
sue.51
Advantages: Superb service, good facilties, excellent food, reasonable prices
Disadvantages: Not in the city, I was there on business
...didn't fail to let me down. A little check with our own "helencbradshaw" and one of my colleagues assured me that my chosen destination was close to the Uni I would be spending most of my time.
WHO ARE THEY?
Formed in 1995, and owned by Stamford Land Corporation Ltd, one of Singapores best known public companies, Stamford hotels and resorts have a range of hotels and resorts in key cities in Australia and New Zealand, with plans to expand in Asia and South America.
Their properties are 4.5 and 5 star outlets, some suites and some hotels.
BOOKING
I made my booking at the Stamford Grand North Ryde at their website www.stamford.com.au - firstly selecting the "book a package" link rather than a straightforward reservation, and was offered a Palm Suite for AUD 120 (c£48...

DRIFT AWAY on a 4-Star beach resort Hotel for LESS
Review of Oasis Beach Hotel, Dubai by
Connoisseur_Haggler
Advantages: Located on Jumeriah Beach, comfortable, relaxed and friendly atmosphere, SUPERB VALUE for money and quality for a 4 star hotel
Disadvantages: none really - if you get a sea view room
...the hotel and guests are picked up and dropped back to the hotel. The hotel also runs its own free bus service to Dubai city centre about 5 -6 times a day and back.
PRICES
Price range for this 4 -star Deluxe hotel range from 650.00 - 1075.00 (UAE Dirham ) if booked directly with the hotel. However, as you know I booked this hotel through Utell booking site and paid only 250 UAE Dirham + 10% tax, which is 275 Dir per day, which is less than £53 per double room, for 2 people, making it less than £30 person including breakfast!!
Exchange rate at time of booking: To give you some idea at time of writing £1 = 5.25 Dir Sterling Pound
UPDATE 1:
18 Dec. 2004
The Sterling pound is even stronger against the UAE Dir -its now £1 = 7.13 Dir
I am going to Dubai again in Feb. 2005 and Jan 2006 and will update this hotel review should I stay...

The pulse of Sydney!
Review of Travelodge, Sydney by
nat23y
Advantages: Location, Price, facilities
Disadvantages: none
...The Travelodge Sydney is one of the best value 3 star hotels in Sydney City Centre.
Location
This hotel is perfectly located a stones throw away from the action; a mere block away from Oxford St where you will find funky cafes, restaurants, Sydney's best choice of late bars for the clubbers among you and great shopping.
Other nearby attractions
Pitt Street Mall which is renowned for its shopping is less than a kilometre away as is Darling Harbour, the rocks, the opera house and the harbour bridge. Sydney City Centre isn't really that big so you can get to any of these plus other major attractions by foot although the hotel reception was always happy to book us taxis when we went out at night (and all the cab drivers knew where the hotel was when we were trying to find our way back there after a night out on the champas...
