Advantages: a delightful cottage to house your sylvanian figures Disadvantages: none
...It was my younger daughter's fourth birthday on Saturday and from her grandparents she received this delightful Rose Cottage which is part of the SylvanianFamilies range. They had already bought her a little family for Christmas but they didn't have anywhere to live - hence this cottage.
I love the entire Sylvanianfamilies range and I think all of the products are particularly well made with good attention to detail and this cottage is no exception. It is made of a very sturdy plastic but it almost looks like wood. The cottage has two rooms over two floors with a connecting ladder between the two. It has a door and windows that open and close at the front. The back is open though allowing the child full access to play inside it. The cottage has a red roof and has a really lovely cottagey look to it.
It's not a very big house but it...
...Blackpool was one of those sea side places that I was always taken too when I was a kid, that and Llandudno for some reason, however when Blackpool was mentioned I always used to get excited because the tackiness of Blackpool is exciting for a kid.
However, as I have got older, I don't seem to have grown out of Blackpool being one of the better places for a day trip if you come from the Midlands. Two hours drive up North of the M6, if that and you are there, with plenty to keep you occupied throughout the day. Being a wild child though and love anything fun, Blackpool Pleasure Beach has always appealed to me and is one of those places that I could spend all day, the good thing about it to is it is free to walk around, no entrance fee so if you want to walk round, go into one of the numerous arcades there and not actually go on any...
Advantages: good quality, great detail Disadvantages: expensive
...When I was little my family never went on caravanning holidays but my best friend?s family had their own caravan and I was so jealous! I loved playing in it and seeing how beds could suddenly appear and how everything could be hidden in its own place out of sight. I think this must be the reason why that when my in-laws gave my daughters the SylvanianFamilies caravan and family car for Christmas I was probably more excited than they were!
My daughters and I love all things Sylvanian and I do think that all their items are exquisitely made with such a wonderful attention to detail. The caravan and car are no exception. They can be sold together as a set although they do come in their separate boxes and can be bought individually. However, looking at the SylvanianFamilies website you save about £10 by buying as a set.

Advantages: Solid construction, minimal assembly, well designed. Disadvantages: Large footprint. No accessories or dolls included. Cost.
...INTRODUCTION
Last Christmas, my (then) three year old daughter was well and truly spoiled. At that stage, she was an only grandchild, and with Christmas day being held at our house, her grandparents embarked on a slightly embarrassing ?gift? arms race in an attempt to outdo each other and come out with the title of bestest present (and by association ? bestest grandparents). In any event, the biggest box was reserved for the end, and as my daughter happily set about ripping off the packaging for the ?SylvanianFamilies Old Oak Hollow Treehouse?, both grandma?s eyed each other up, trying to gauge whether or not they had finished in the winning corner.
Meanwhile, the granddads did what granddad?s do best ? they forgot which side they were supposed to be on and happily mucked in together to construct my daughter?s present. Give...
Advantages: good quality toy Disadvantages: expensive
...My eldest daughter was recently six and was very excited to open a large wrapped parcel from her grandparents. Inside was this wonderful Sylvanian Familes General Hospital. This was great as the girls already have a number of items from the SylvanianFamilies range so this was just adding to the collection!
Before I describe the hospital it's worth just saying a little about the SylvanianFamilies range in general. It is based on various different families of very cute small animals and I am always very impressed by the quality of these. Once you have a family or two there are so many houses and furniture sets which you can buy for them so that children can make up lots of lovely adventures for them. You can view the entire range at
www.sylvanianfamilies.com
Anyway back to the general hospital. This is a 'fully equipped' hospital...
Advantages: Great story and music Disadvantages: none
...The Boat That Rocked focuses on a pirate radio ship, called Radio Rock, broadcasting to the teenagers of the sixties. They are a motley band of disc jockeys that go against the wishes of a British government determined to silence them. The boss of Radio Rock, Quentin, has to ensure rating for his station whilst avoid the might of the government officials, led by Minister Dormandy.
Radio rock has a selection of colourful disc jockeys, including The Count, a brash American, the charming, yet lewd, Dave, inexperienced and gentle, Simon and even a lesbian cook, Felicity. The arrival of Quentin?s godson, Carl, leads to the DJ?s to turn Carl into a man through a number of funny exploits. However the Count?s position as top DJ at Radio Rock are tested when the famous king of the airwaves, Gavin returns from his tour of America.
This is...
Advantages: Fun, zany antics with a great soundtrack Disadvantages: Some of the big name members of the cast were under utilised
...ROCKING THE BOAT- A HAVEN IN A SEA OF SELF-INVOLVED EPICS
Seldom do those of us in the UK get the chance to view a film in cinema before the American market. For once we were able to make up our own minds without the American sales telling us whether or not the film was any good. Having said that, it quickly became clear from the UK reviews that The Boat that Rocked was a little like marmite. You love it or you hate it. This review is based entirely on seeing the film at the cinema so who knows what extras they will add to the dvd to tempt buyers. I must say that the cinema was almost empty when we saw the film which was a bonus as we could pick the perfect seats and were spared the usual cinema annoyances of chatting individuals and flickering mobile phone screens.
THE PREMISE
The Boat that Rocked is another offering from...
Advantages: Great vocals, range, Disadvantages: A couple very good tracks?
...**Introduction**
Since the release of Boyz II Men's Cooleyhighharmony in 1991 there have been a number of R&B vocal harmony groups come through who have been largely influenced by them. One artist who have had decent success is 112, The quartet hail from Atlanta, Georgia and consisted of Marvin Scandrick, Michael Keith, Quinnes Parker and Daron Jones. Before Keith left the group after a fall out and released his self titled Debut solo album last year. The name of the group comes from the name of the club there were at when they were signed.
**Pleasure & Pain**
Pleasure and Pain is the fifth album from 112 and the last with the original line up. Released in 2005 this album features production from Jermaine Dupri and Mario Winans as well as Sean Garrett, Daron Jones and Bernard "Focus..." Edwards Jr. The album features two...
Advantages: Philip Seymour Hoffman, the feelgood factor, the music Disadvantages: Oh, the hype
...Tom Sturridge. He?s a teenager who?s just been expelled from his single sex school. He joins the boat after his mum packs him off to spend some time with Quentin, who?s his Godfather. Quentin becomes the closest thing to a father figure Carl has ever known. Carl apparently, is the wonderful result of a few nights of lust and never knew his real dad. Quentin, on first being introduced to him, asks if they?ve ever met before. They haven?t, but as Quentin explains, he?s forgotten a whole decade thanks to some pretty wild partying. I didn?t understand why his mother would have thought this trip a good idea for her son, but we understand more when we finally meet her ourselves. Carl seems like a very unworldly young man, and rather shy here, which is odd considering he?s on board because he was caught smoking in school. He soon comes out of his...

Review of The Boat That Rocked
Advantages: great British film Disadvantages: none
...I had wanted to see The Boat that Rocked ever since I saw a preview of it on my Mama Mia DVD that I got for Christmas. As it's a British film from the makers of such films as Notting Hill and Love Actually, and it stars Billy Nighy and Rhys Ifans I felt it was definitely going to tick all the right boxes. It subsequently made its way on to my Amazon wish list and finally appeared all neatly wrapped, thanks to my husband, for my birthday last week!
We duly settled down to watch the DVD last night and I have to say that the next two hours and ten minutes passed in a very enjoyable flash. I absolutely loved this film from the very first moment that the opening credits appeared right through to the moment when the final credits rolled. It is such an enjoyable, feel good, madcap film and I am definitely going to be recommending it!
The film...
