Before He Went Bonkers
Review of Love Symbol - Prince by
waynehorrigan
Advantages: Great music; inspired writing; kept up with the times nicely
Disadvantages: Couple of stinking ballads - he didn't wanna do that!
...WHO'S THIS THEN?
-----------------------------
It's Prince, born Prince Rogers Nelson, in Minneapolis 46 years ago is a very talented singer/multi-instrumentalist (with the emphasis on "mentalist"). A master of rock, funk, pop and soul, his most famous record is probably "Kiss".
Between 1983 and 1993 he released one album every year until his record company took more control of his work and asked him to slow down his work-rate and spend more time on promotion.
He responded by changing his name to an unintelligible symbol, writing the word "slave" on his cheek and actively not promoting his work.
He returned this year with the fine Musicology album.
WHAT'S THIS ALBUM ALL ABOUT?
-------------------------------------------------
This was released in 1992 at the beginning of Prince's decline. As above, he'd released one...

Barcode Scanner That Works
Review of Symbol SPT 1550 by
Dexter2102
Advantages: Extremely User Friendly
Disadvantages: The "BEEP" when you confirm a scan
...This Symbol SPT 1550 is the best scanner around in an area flooded with similar products. This device is extremely lightweight compared to its competitors and ease of use is second to none. The scanner itself allows you to read barcode labels with extreme ease some scanners on the market ensure you have to be right next to the barcode for it to register but with the Symbol SPT 1550 it allows you to scan from a distance and scan hard to reach barcodes. The product also has touch screen GUI making it extremely user friendly the further you venture into the menus and sub menus you can never get lost due to the aptly named home icon.In terms of memory for this device i once scanned 1200 items in an initial audit i was doing and it had no problems in terms of slowing up....

SKA-PUNK!
Review of Symbolic - Voodoo Glow Skulls by
starflower
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...Despite touring with the bands like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones and the Offspring(who are excellent live) the Voodoo Glo Skulls have never seemed to manage to reach the level of their peers. Its hardly down to laziness either, with 'Symbolic' being their sixth album in seven years.
Always up for a party, the Californian ska-punk group throw together a wild mix of dub, funk, cheesy guitar solos and hip hop and, as ever it doesnt take long to get into the swing of things. However the mad cap horn section are let loose and ensures a case of everything going radio rental, with 'El Mas Chingon' featuring Reverend Horton Heat, providing a full on skank and rock and roll fest.
Unfortunately, they lose marks on account of a mediocre version of 'I shot the sheriff'...don't even go there!!...

Cat Square Squiggle God-symbol
Review of Everything that starts with H ... by
frkurt
Advantages: Interesting subject
Disadvantages: None, really
..., but actually very few, and others are sound-meaning symbols). Collier and Manley introduce a transliteration system to ease your way into pronunciation (and pronunciation is very sketchy, given the fact there are no recordings from ancient Egypt). Symbols can vary occasionally for sound, meaning, and determinative value.
The pattern of hieroglyphs is also variable. Generally, you always want to 'read into the face', i.e., the picto-glyphs will be facing the direction from which to start -- more often right to left than left to right, and columns go top to bottom. There are no punctuation marks and no word breaks -- this can make meanings hard to decipher.
Consider the example:
IAMNOWHERE
which could be broken into
I AM NOW HERE
or
I AM NOWHERE
and in this case, context might not help provide which meaning is the true one. Or perhaps...

Still a proud symbol
Review of Freedom Monument (Brivibas Piemineklis), Riga by
kittenkong
Advantages: Well known feature in Riga
Disadvantages: None
...Riga's Freedom Monument. just outside the city's Old Town, has had a multi purpose history. It was put up in 1935 during an interwar period of independence, with an inscription - To Fatherland and Freedom.
Basically, the Monument consists of a tall stone pillar, atop it a large bronze statue of a woman holding aloft three gold stars which symbolise three regions of Latvia.
Around the bottom of it are sculptures depicting various aspects of the nation - work, strength, spiritual values, freedom, the family; and Latvia's historical heritage.
The statue became a symbol and focus of the anti-Soviet resistance movement in the late 1980's and early 90's in the struggle for independence. Here in 1987 thousands of people held a rally to remember people deported by Stalin. The fact that the Soviets did not pull it down reflects, I...

The Seventh Symbol
Review of Stargate (Director's Cut) by
87degrees
Advantages: exciting, entertaining
Disadvantages: one or two plot holes
....
Jackson translates the coverstones that were found with the gate and discovers the seventh symbol necessary to opperate it. However, the audience is left wondering how, if there are only a limited number of symbols on the gate, it didn't occur to the scientists to just try them all until they found the seventh, since the first six were already carved in stone.
The Stargate, it is revealed, opens a doorway to another Stargate on a planet at the other end of the known universe. A probe is sent through and it wouldn't be a film if they didn't decide to sent a team of people through as well.
Anyway, the team, lead by O'Neil and including Jackson, heads through the Stargate to a world known as Abydos. There they encounter a city of humans taken as slaves, and an alien being who has taken on the personna of the Egyptian sun god Ra...

The status symbol of a generation
Review of Nokia 3330 by
nicolap
Advantages: Each one has it's own personality
Disadvantages: It doesn't have the original memory
...is loads more than with earlier Nokia models that stopped you before 100. AS well as this, there is voice activated dialling (which, unfortunately, is very sensitive so if you forget exactly how to say an entry, it's not really very helpful at all). As well as these features, as you'd expect, there's a speed dial option, along with a business card sening option.
The message menu is pretty much standard throughout modern nokias, so not much to discuss there. Although, you can now put smileys into texts by choosing from the menu rather than having to wade through the symbols menu. And, of course, there's the joy of predictive texting. Just make sure you check what you've written as it can come out with some fantastic new words!!
The next interesting menu has to be the tones menu. As you would expect, there's a composer...

Titchmarch a Sex Symbol
Review of Everything that starts with A ... by
weirdstop
Advantages: just brill
Disadvantages: i just cant imagine the sex symbol bit
...of brown before they eventually wither and die.
And what a nice man that Alan Titchmarch seems to be. Its as if he is talking to You personally. He doesn't talk to you like you are a piece of fertiliser under his welly. Its as if he is having a nieghbourly chat over the garden fence, but I have heard rumours he is supposed to be some kind of sex symbol???
I'm sorry but to me he seems more like your friendly garden gnome....

vikramkanswal
Advantages: Be the one to explore this Wonder of World.

Even a stone hearted man would melt once he knows the history behind Taj Mahal. And what a peace of mind you find on the corridors of Taj !! Its unbelievable, it feels as if there is love , love , just love around you .
Astonishing...Thrilling...Exotic...Ravishing...and so much that your thesauras would fall short of words. Such is the sheer magnificence of the Taj Mahal. Its something which happens once in a billion years. So here we go :
The LOVE STORY begins here :

The monarch is our symbol and saviour...!
Review of Does Britain still need a monarchy? by
zx737
Advantages: limits govt, unifying, earns money and pays tax
Disadvantages: just something to criticise really
...Government and are put under intense pressure to allow their judgments to be persuaded by the Governments ideas and beliefs.
Republican Governments are very highly recognized for their hostile and can easily exploit minority groups such as the Nazi's with their genocidal actions against the Jews and Gypsies. Also, against the mentally and physically ill.
Now why should the Constitutional Monarchy stay…
Firstly, the monarch is a unifying body in that it unites the whole of the nation and represents the people on an international basis. It is the national symbol for Great Britain; I mean would you rather have Tony Blair's face everywhere and on stamps? The monarch is the final protection against any unlawful law created by a Government. We are subjects to the crown but the crown is our saviour if anything was to happen to the Government...
