Samsung SyncMaster 172 T TFT Flat Panel Display
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 T by
jala
Advantages: Super Slim, Dual Hinged, good for usual desktop standing or for wall mounting
Disadvantages: None
...I finally had the opportunity to buy a TFT Flat Panel Display and after reading many, many reviews found that the Samsung 172 T was the one for me. I wanted something affordable and professional, and got exactly that.
Gone are the days when my old chunky monitor took up half of my desk space. The design in ultra slim, ultra stylish and ultra sexy (in the mundane world of computers anyway!).
The actual thickness of the TFT from front to back is no more than one inch. A dramatic change from conventional monitors.
As a Photographer and Designer who uses programs such as PhotoShop, Flash, Illustrator etc. I needed a better than excellent image quality. This TFT has excellent image quality. I have had no problems whatsoever with regards to dot pitch, which was one of the things I feared when I decided to buy a TFT. Dot pitch being...

Old is not necessarily outdated
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 X by
storpey
Advantages: Slim, cheap, excellent value!
Disadvantages: Stand a bit tough to move.
...Samsung SyncMaster 172x
Having been an owner of a very old CRT monitor for many years, I decided to invest in a flat-screen two years ago. This was one of the wisest choices I could have made at the time, as it was thoroughly needed by my computer system!
I did a little research into what made a good TFT (flat-screen) monitor and came up with the following criteria:
Size, both physical and virtual: The physical size (15", 17", 19" etc.) clearly relates to the physical size of the screen, measured from one corner of the viewable display to the opposite corner, in a diagonal line across the screen. Larger sizes are usually, but not always, better. Virtual size is important too, as it determines the maximum screen resolution (800x600, 1024x768, 1280x1024 etc.), in pixels, that the screen can handle. The bigger the better!

I'm in Sync with my sleek silver monitor
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 V by
vialdana
Advantages: slimline, sleek, silver and soo soo swish
Disadvantages: not cheap.
..., or poor viewing angle. When I use my computer, I sometimes have someone sat next to me, or behind me on the sofa, and I wanted to make sure that whatever I bought would still allow this person to see what I was doing.
My first choice was the Samsung Syncmaster 172T (£345). It’s basically very similar to the Syncmaster 172v (£320) which I got in the end, but it has a much more manoeuvrable stand, so that angle and height adjustment are greater, which I thought at the time I would need. Unfortunately however, that particular model wasn’t available – not discontinued by Samsung, but by the one shop local to us which had one on display (if anyone knows why these shops persist in displaying items they can no longer get hold of please enlighten me!).
The Syncmaster 172v has a viewing angle of 140 x 120 degrees (nice and wide...

Proving that bigger is not always better…...
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 S by
srtom
Advantages: Good quality brand, Saves space, Excellent output
Disadvantages: Fairly expensive
...When purchasing a new monitor, ask yourself this question…...What does it really mean to me? Is it your window to the world, indispensable to your business or do you hardly use it? Whatever your poison, this monitor is great for all users as the flat panel screen displays whatever your heart desires at good quality. Samsung have a very good reputation in this industry and the Syncmaster does everything right to solidify this position. The 172 S's LCD screen is very clear and I have absolutely no complaints when using applications, playing games or watching films as it ticks all the boxes here. I haven’t tested this feature myself, but there’s also the possibility of having more than one monitor running at once if your graphics card supports it.

Does size matter?
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 V by
little_minx26
Advantages: Space saver, ClearType, Easier on eyes
Disadvantages: Price
...We've gone a bit flat screen crazy in my family recently. It started when we all clubbed together to buy my impoverished student brother a 15" Samsung flat screen monitor for his birthday present. The poor thing had about a square foot of desk space in his room and could barely open a book on it. Anyway, we thought it would aid his studying. I think it actually aided his DVD watching, but it certainly took up less space none the less. Then my dad decided that he actually liked the flat screen quite a lot himself and with the excuse that it would "help him work from home" he bought the same monitor. Not to be outdone we purchased a 17" Samsung SyncMaster flat screen monitor along with our spangly new computer this Christmas. We got the 2" bigger one as apparently size matters...!

Bigger AND smaller?
Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 V by
eddybennet
Advantages: Good contrast, great at saving space
Disadvantages: No DVI connection
...you really want when shelling out hundreds of pounds on a piece of kit!
My previously monitor had been a Samsung and, other than it's slight attempt at burning down the house, had performed brilliantly for years. Thus I checked out their range of flat panel monitors, and found that Samsung have a very low threshold for stuck pixels when they do quality control checks on their monitors - which basically means they don't sell monitors that are badly affected. In fact, they won't allow monitors with even 0.01% of dead pixels to be sold! I decided to go for one.
PRICE
---------
www.ebuyer.co.uk send me emails every week containing their special offers, and in one issue they were selling the SyncMaster 172v at just over £200 including VAT. My mouth watered at the bigger screen size than I was used to so I immediately jumped...

Review of Samsung SyncMaster 172 V by
Bigbaz
Advantages: Massive space saver, May reduce headaches
Disadvantages: Design faults.
...with no quibble and a £10 reduction on any subsequent purchase.
Warranty's on TFT monitors are notorious where problems with pixels occur, that said this one offers a 3 year warranty but it does state and I quote "This warranty covers none of the following: All Liquid Crystal Display (LCD) regardless of manufacturer, loss brightness with age" Their wording not mine so beware.
Returning to the display I chose an Ivory coloured Samsung SyncMaster 172v, which cost me a little over £300 pound from PC World at the time of purchase. Today they have it for £299 and Dabs Com sell it pennies under £293 so it will pay if you have the time to shop around for one.
So why this one, well in the first place size was paramount as I have little room as it is and a conventional Cathode ray monitor such as I previously operated took up a considerable amount...

Review of Renault Clio 172 Cup by
Yozza
Advantages: A Unique Car with Power Unrivaled For Price
Disadvantages: Raw, Very Raw, more of a race car than a City Driver
...A car that makes you horny (you get in it - YOU GROW HORNS)
RenaultSport have taken the Clio 172 Mk2 and have developed it further into a fully fledged track day car, that has the flexibility to be a practical everday car.
The 172 Cup is Lighter than the 172 by a hundred kilos or so, this is down to the sacrificing of the following:

172Cup, performance on a budget
Review of Renault Clio 172 Cup by
donnyo
Advantages: Fast Cheap, Hardcore Hot Hatch
Disadvantages: higher insurance, not for faint hearted! OEM Exhausts fall off!!!
...The Cup is a modern equivalent of what the Clio Williams was back in the 1990s to the Hot Hatch Scene.
I've owned my 172Cup for 4 years, the car is 170BHp (172PS) and weighs 1021Kg. The car is available in 2 colours (predominantly Mondiale Blue) and also there are some in Silver. There are full specs here http://www.renaultsport.co.uk/roadcars/heritage/clio172cup/
The car has cheaper interior than the normal 172, no side airbags, no Xenon lights, no Cruise Control, no traction control, no ABS, no spare wheel. There is no Climate Control on most 172Cups, but it was brought in later on in the car's life as an option. 0-60 in 6.5 seconds this car isn't shy!
The insurance is higher than a normal 172, some companies won't insure the Cup (also known as the 'Widowmaker'). Make sure that you are a good or experienced driver...
