Nice looks, but enough power?
Review of HP Pavilion dv1108EA - Celeron M 350 1.3 GHz - 14" TFT by
melkonianarg
Advantages: Crisp/Quality Screen & Modern/Dynamic Look
Disadvantages: In-built Graphics not up to much...
...System bus -- 400MHz Bus speed
Cache -- Level 2 cache 1MB
Standard memory -- 256MB
Memory type -- DDR PC2700 266MHz
memory layout -- (1x256MB)
Maximum memory -- Supports up to 2GB DDR memory
Well, since I paid only £450 for a refurbished one, the specs above look O.K:
Processor --> although the CELERON in front of the more welcoming M did put me off at first, but then after research, I found that they are really quite similar to the pentium m, just without SPEEDSTEP technology-allowing extended battery life by adjusting the frqency of the proccessor (i.e. wether it running at 1.3Ghz or 233Mhz etc...), and also without the 2mb level 2 CACHE, which makes for exellent loading speeds for little apps, such as Firefox etc...
Memory --> before actually purchasing the laptop (off ebay I might add), I was very tempted...

Speedy little core(s)
Review of AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ / 3 GHz processor by
paulhanton
Advantages: Cheap, fast, reliable
Disadvantages: Can't see any
...I bought this processor, new motherboard, new video card and windows vista home premium to upgrade my old PC which my son now uses for gaming. I may review the motherboard etc. later.
I researched this processor on the web first, and decided on this based on comparing prices and performance with what I need, rather than what I might want, and it does all I need.
Essentially the Athlon 64 X2 6000+ is simply two cores (processors)at 3GHz with 1MB of L2 cache per core. This means that you are getting a pretty fast processor which, although launched nearly a year ago, still runs all known games as far as I am aware.
AMD have a pretty comprehensive website where anyone that has a technical mind (I am not that way inclined) can get info' to their hearts desire, the essential info listed is below:
Processor AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 Dual...

Excellent PC, Excellent Price
Review of Dell Dimension 8400 - P4 530 3 GHz - 17" TFT by
skeet263
Advantages: Well-Built, Cost Effective, Fast Machine
Disadvantages: None
...The specifications of the PC I had delivered are as follows:
- Pentium 4 with HT Technology, 3GHz
- 512MB Ram (They doubled it to 1024MB Ram with a free promotion)
- Soundblaster Audigy 2
- 19” CRT Monitor
- 160GB SATA Hard Drive
- 128MB PCI-Express ATI RadeonTM X800 XT graphics card
It also arrived with the usual mouse, keyboard, and built in modem. A perfect machine, for a pretty wonderful price. Consider that the last computer I bought, from Evesham.com, was almost twice the price, for half the machine, and constantly crashed.
LOOKS
This machine is sexy. The black casing over the monitor and computer case is a delight to look at, and looks very classy on my desk. The keyboard and mouse are also black, to match this great look.
The mini tower is well-designed, and easy to access for upgrading. Some people do not find this to be true...

Fantastic chip, even better when overclocked
Review of Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 / 3 GHz processor by
piloteer81
Advantages: Cheap, fast and cool
Disadvantages: it's not a quad core, £130 may be too much for some
...CPU you can afford. This makes sense - many modern games are more and more CPU dependant rather than GPU dependant - they need a powerful processor just as much as a fast graphics card. This means that building a balanced system is more important today than ever.
But while the E8400 is a great chip out of the box, it's an absolute stonker at overclocking. If you don't know what overclocking is then it's definitely worth doing some research. It's a simple method of increasing the speed of any given processor for free. It's not difficult and thousands of people already do it.
The E8400 can easily reach 3.5Ghz by overclocking it, but even 4Ghz is an easy target even with normal air cooling and a half decent motherboard. At this speed it simply flies through anything yet remains relatively cool - something that can't be said of quad cores...

THE INTEL PROCESSOR.
Review of Intel Pentium 4 530J / 3 GHz processor by
packerlist
Advantages: VERY HIGH SPEED IN PROCESSING
Disadvantages: : MAKES NOISE.
...I got this just for two reasons; the number one reason is that my other Intel seems to be outdated and the number two reasons is that I wanted a more advanced and faster processor for my PC gaming so I had to buy this for these reasons. The processor comes in an orange packed colour with blue stripe at the edge of the pack and also with an instruction, heat stick and fan for cooling down the temperature.
The processor makes it outright for easy installation and application so no problem when it comes to installations and ease of use.
The Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHZ socket 775 CPU has hyper technology and I think that was the best processor computer product I could find in the market and I decided to buy it after a long battle between Intel and athlon processor on which one to buy. The Intel processors that I have been using have been...

Excellent high-spec PC.
Review of Compaq Presario SR1429UK - P4 630 3 GHz by
pigeon1986
Advantages: Good graphics card, good memory space, WIndows XP,
Disadvantages: Only one DVD/CD drive, ps/2 keyboard and mouse connections
...I have had this pc for just over a year now and have not been disappointed once. This PC is very fast, and has never struggled with anything that I have thrown at it (not literally!).
There is a 9 in 1 card reader on the front, so it is easy to upload digital photos etc, and firewire (one on the front one on the back). It also has 3 USB 2 sockets on the front again allowing for easy connectivity, there are also 4 USB 2 sockets on the back. You can also plug in a microphone, headphones or line out on the front. You can easily connect surround sound systems on the rear (7.1 channel surround). Basically its extremely easy to connect anything u may wish to this pc. It also has a built in ethernet card.
The tower itself looks very attractive, black with grey/silver outlines. With a green LED light on the front I think it looks very...

china_wolf
Advantages: Read and you shall know the ways...
Disadvantages: PC games minimum requirements are such lies!
...person then I'll understand just skip the next part.) Alienware's Area-51® ALX desktop computer has:
Silent Liquid Cooling Technology*;
Intel® Pentium® 4 Processor with HT Technology Extreme Edition 3.4GHz Operating @ 3.8 GHz processor;

Satellite System
Review of Toshiba Satellite P30-133 - Mobile Pentium 4 548 3.33 GHz - 17" TFT by
crutchley_am
Advantages: High performance, good reliability
Disadvantages: Low battery life
...this model). I would have preferred green or blue, but the red is neutral enough to look good. All the corners have been rounded off to give it a sleeker look and this also means that it's not such a pain to carry around.
PERFORMANCE
The P30 comes with a Pentium 4, 3.3 Ghz processor run over 2 CPUs. This makes it very quick and allows you to load top of the range programs and games on and they should run with no problems. Additionally it comes with 512 MB ram, which further pushes the performance of the computer faster. The cache could be bigger (only 1MB as opposed to the 2MB that I've seen on the most expensive notebooks) but for my and most people's requirements it should be more than enough. The graphics card that came with mine is an ATI Mobility Radeon, which is hardly top of the range, but equally is a good high performance card. I...

D 925
Review of Intel Pentium D 925 / 3 GHz processor by
Shah_H
Advantages: Cheap, Fast.
Disadvantages: Heat, Old Generation
...I bought this processor a few months ago. I always had a good experience with Intel and once more I enjoyed their offering. This processor is a decent performer running at 3 GHz. It can fit in any motherboard having LGA775 socket. It is based on 65 nm manufacturing technology. And for sure it is dual core!
Architecture Features:
Enhanced SpeedStep technology, streaming SIMD extensions 2, streaming SIMD extensions 3, Intel Extended Memory 64 Technology, Execute Disable Bit capability
This processor runs at 3 GHz. It has decent FSB of 800 MHz. It is equipped with 2 MB l2 cache per core which means a total of 4 MB cache.
The power requirements of this processor are a bit higher than those of the newer Core 2 Duo processors but still they are not that high. The processor heats up a bit, so, take care of the airflow across...
