Nikon D90 - My Next 'Last' Camera

...There?s been a legion of digital cameras that have passed through my hands since they started to become a serious contender for 35mm?s domination of the amateur market. Going from memory, they?ve included Philips, Casio, Canon, Nikon and errr?..Nikon. Of course the last one, my first DSLR, a Nikon D70 was going to be the last; but then we all say that don?t we, lads? What I really meant was ?the last for quite a while?. LOOKS LIKE THE ?QUITE A WHILE? HAS EXPIRED Then my daughter started making noises about a night-school class in photography, where the minimum kit requirement just so happened to be a DSLR, and I got to thinking about letting her have the D70 for a ?song?, whilst good ol? Dad treats himself to the later and much higher-specified D90. Since I bought the D70 four or five years back, things have moved on apace...

Review of Nikon D90

My experience of the Nikon D90 as an amateur photographer.

Advantages: Excellent picture quality, lots of useful features, well designed controls, great kit lens
Disadvantages: More expensive than some other DSLRs, quite big and heavy, limited movie mode

... How I made my choice I recently bought the D90 to upgrade from my Olympus 560UZ bridge camera, so this is my first foray into DSLR photography. Most people starting in DSLR photography will opt for the cheaper D40, or the D60, D70 and D80. I am not particularly rich, and in the end chose the D90 because I didn't want to grow out of the smaller DSLR and have to buy a new body quickly. I have found that the prices of Nikon DSLRs haven't decreased significantly over the last 3 years, so I decided (maybe wrongly) that this option would save me money in the long run. I found that it is very important to go into a shop and hold the camera in your hands before making a choice. All the photography shop assistants said that the Canon series was just as good as the Nikons, but I discounted them because I didn't get on with the feel...

Review of Nikon D90

Nike Total 90 Trainers

Advantages: Very durable, supportive, a little tight but great for its main purpose
Disadvantages: the plastic material would sometimes crack and split

...These trainers were brilliant for indoor football and gave my feet great support and grip which allowed me to perform optimally. It was good as it was also fashionable to have a pair of these; a lot of my friends had a pair in similar colours. I wouldn?t really use them for any other reason than to play football or sports activities because they would look a little silly as just casual shoes. Never the less they were a good pair to have which lasted a long time One issue with these trainers, the plastic material would sometimes crack and split, also, the writing would eventually fade. I suppose this is the case with all trainers. Very durable, supportive, a little tight and uncomfortable but great for its main purpose....

They are a ferm but comfortable pair of trainers that can be used on grass and Astro-Turf. The sole of the shoe have tiny, stud-like bumps on the bottom, they are especially made for Astro-Turf. The side, Nike tick on the side, with small 'total 90' written on the back of the side. The heel is grey, blue or red with another small Nike tick. The laces are grey, red or blue with a strip of the colour down the front. The tongue, it is the colour of the boot with small 'total 90' written on it. **Price/Availability** I got these at a fantastically cheap price...

XC90 T6 Exec. MPV = More Please, Volvo!

Advantages: Most stylish 4X4, hugely roomy, very comfortable, good value for money
Disadvantages: Expensive second hand, needs bigger engine, may not fit your garage

Nokia E90 Communicator

...Having recently reviewed the Nokia N810 internet tablet and discovered it is little more than an executive toy, I approached the E90 without any expectations. I'm glad to say that so far I have not found any unusual missing features. Yes unlike the N810 this device actually has a phone. And that's not all, there are even some productivity applications in the form of a simple word processor and spreadsheet. From the outside the phone appears to be rather large by modern standards, with a standard keypad and a function panel above it. There's a power switch at the top right. There are two buttons on the right side of the device, one activates the instant sound recorder function (and I suspect voice dialling as well), while the other is used to take pictures when in camera mode. Strangely this button doesn't automatically activate...

...I bought my Canon T90 fifteen years ago to take on holiday and dropped it of a moving taxi on about the third roll of film. It is still going strong. In that time my wife has worn out three identical Minoltas of a slightly lower spec and she treats them pretty well. I won't go into the spec in too much detail. Its an SLR camera, down to 1/4000 shutter speed, single or multi-spot metering, no autofocus, integral autowind, etc, etc. I saw a slightly worn second hand one today for £225 and a mint one which looked brand new for £425 (Cambridge). It is very heavy with a full load of batteries and also quite noisy, these days, compared to newer cameras. What I will do is go into the abuse that I have given mine to give you an idea of how hardy it is. The day I bought it the plastic connector for the strap broke so I took it back. Since...
