Parallel Lines - Blondie
Review of Parallel Lines - Blondie by
micksheff
Advantages: Some Superb Songs
Disadvantages: Some Tracks Are Quite Short
...was however something that the Band were never entirely happy with. There was no doubt that they had been heavily influenced by the new wave of New York Punk Bands that had emerged in the middle of the seventies and their first Album had been very well received. Its follow up Plastic Letters however was not quite so warmly received although it had given the Band their UK breakthrough on the singles chart with its two singles, Denis (number 2) and (I'm always touched by your) Presence, Dear (number 10).
A change of direction was needed for their third Album, something that would drop their Punk tag in favour for something much more experimental, and more commercially acceptable to the masses. In 1978 that change of direction came with the release of Parallel Lines.
Over 25 years after its original release Parallel Lines is now widely accepted...

Defining The Great Line
Review of Define The Great Line - Underoath by
RazzaLazza
Advantages: Strong drum work throughout, impressive vocal styling.
Disadvantages: You may wear the album out from playing it so often.
...In 2004 the band rose to fame with their 'They're Only Chasing Safety' album which sold more than 350 000 copies. Underoath came back after a 2 year wait with this album 'Define The Great Line' with which the band have a great stab at success in the metalcore genre, a genre they started off in with their first two albums 'Act of Depression' and 'Cries of the Past' before moving onto the melody, scream, repeat formula of the 'They're Only Chasing Safety' release. I feel that this was a wise move for the band as I feel that this is a genre that they do a lot more successfully, and so in returning to their roots as such the band are definitely onto a winner. Underoath make strong use of their double bass pedal with this release, producing a heavy album that should go down well with many of those that listen to it.

Walk the Line - the music
Review of Walk The Line [ECD] - Various Artists by
NewYork2006
Advantages: Great foot tapping sing-along tracks
Disadvantages: /
...If you have seen the film Walk the Line starring Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon and loved the music in the film then you may want to buy the soundtrack as it is just as great. & even if you haven't seen the film but love great foot tapping country/ Rock 'n' Roll songs with some slower country/blues ballads mixed in then this may be for you too.
I thought the film was absolutely amazing and so went out and bought the soundtrack the very next day. I have loved Johnny Cash's music for a long time but do not have any of his cd's. One of the great aspects of the film was that the singers all did their own singing and nobody mimed a word. Joaquin Phoenix and Reese Witherspoon are so convincing as Johnny Cash and June Carter that when I put the cd on, it could almost be the real thing.
Tracks:
1. Get Rhythm - sung by Phoenix...

Man on the Line
Review of Man On The Line - Chris De Burgh by
leopuss1
Advantages: Catchy tunes
Disadvantages: too short
...This album is really enjoyable and has a more modern feel than albums like Crusader or End of a Perfect Day.
My favourite songs are 'Ecstasy of Flight', 'Sound of a Gun' and 'The Head and the Heart'. Those first two are very upbeat, catchy songs and the third is a typical Cde B love song, which touches me every time i hear it. There are a couple of weaker songs that i've never liked, 'Moonlight & Vodka' being the worst in my opinion! It's too slow and a bit tuneless. 'Much more than This' is a bit boring too. The rest of the songs are really good, tuneful and would be enjoyed by any Chris de Burgh fan, especially 'Man on the Line' and 'Transmission Ends'.
I really like the lyrics, especially the last line of 'The Head & the Heart' and would recommend this album to anyone who likes his music or is unfamiliar with it....

A Line of Deathless Kings
Review of Line Of Deathless Kings, A [ECD] - My Dying Bride by
bagoproverbial
Advantages: A solid album by a truly great band
Disadvantages: Not one of their very best- try another for a better introduction to the band
...My Dying Bride, the only one of the three major English doom metal bands of the early Nineties to have resisted the urge to evolve beyond all recognition (the others being Anathema and Paradise Lost) nevertheless seem to operate in cycles, or have done for much of their career. Their evolution from (at their beginning) ropey death metal through to increasingly melodic, symphonic styles reached its natural conclusion with the experimental, beautiful 34.788% Complete in 1998, since when they have veered back and forth with touches of both their earlier and more recent compositional styles. Their last two albums combined crushingly heavy death metal with tranquil, symphonic passages, successfully marrying together their diverse arrangements.
This is where A Line of Deathless Kings picks up. There is nothing especially groundbreaking...

These lines I have written..
Review of Parallel Lines - Blondie by
Jonny_Narcissus
Advantages: Who needs a greatest hits album?
Disadvantages: none
...Don't buy Blondie's Greatest Hits.
You don't need it.
You'll only get stuff like "The Tide is High" a poor song made poorer by Atomic Kitten - as they would.
Buy "Parallel Lines" instead.
It's a classic.
All the best singles are here:
Hanging on the Telephone
Picture This
Sunday Girl
Heart of Glass
okay, not all of them, you'll need "Touched By Your Presence Dear" in there somewhere too, and probably "Atomic".
But 4 classic singles on one album?
Most of us remember those from the halcyon days of New Wave when fresh new bands who wrote their own material were emerging & getting signed to major labels, rather than all these manufactured cover bands we get these days.
Blondie not only had the tunes, but also wrote some very good lyrics.
For example
"All I want is a photo in my wallet,
a small remembrance of something...

A 70's Orgy of Aerosmith!
Review of Toys In The Attic/Rocks/Draw The Line - Aerosmith by
benraiben
Advantages: 3 Classic Aerosmith Albums Together!/ Plenty of music!
Disadvantages: Non that I can think of really.
...didn't care for at all.
However, for Christmas I couldn't think of what I wanted, and my sister said "I'll get you some Aerosmith CDs or something, because I know you like them'. I agreed it would be a good idea. I was informed by her that she purchased me a box set consisting of 3 CD by Aerosmith. I decided to investigate online and came across a box set entitled 'Pandora's Box' - which housed 3 CDs.
I was shocked to discover on Christmas Day that it wasn't 'Pandora's Box' that I received, but a really neat box set consisting of 3 of Aerosmith's earlier albums; Toys In The Attic, Rocks and Draw The Line.
I had purchased myself an early Christmas present (yes, for myself!) a day or so before Christmas - Aerosmith's 1997 'Nine Lives' album, and along side these 3 earlier albums, I had a lot of Aerosmith to listen to over...

PICTURE THIS!
Review of Parallel Lines - Blondie by
Ryan74
Advantages: Pop perfection that should be bottled and sold
Disadvantages: Three duff live tracks
...'Parallel Lines': the story of how a small punk band from downtown New York ate the world.
First, the history lesson, so concentrate: In 1977/78, Blondie (vocalist Debbie Harry, guitarist Chris Stein, rhythm guitarist Frank Infante, bassist Nigel Harrison, keyboardist Jimmy Destri and drummer extraordinaire Clem Burke) were looking to break away from the punk label they had been tagged with. They had had some success in Britian with a cover of Randy & The Rainbows 60's pop nugget 'Denis', while their second album 'Plastic Letters' was met with critical acclaim. The band were looking to expand on that success with an album which would crystallise their vision. 'Parallel Lines' was released and for a short, fabulous time, Blondie were the biggest and best band on the planet.
It is hard to understate the importance of 'Parallel Lines...

Draw It! Draw It! (UPDATED!!!!)
Review of Draw The Line - Aerosmith by
benraiben
Advantages: It's Aerosmith
Disadvantages: Only 9 Tracks
...The album 'Draw The Line' was released in December, 1977 under the label Columbia Records. It is Aerosmith's 5th studio album. It was produced by: Jack Douglas and Aerosmith themselves and recorded at: The Cenacle in Armonk, NY and the Record Plant, New York, NY
After years of none stop touring and recording the band was beginning to become run down. This, combined with the hectic rock and roll lifestyle began to cause problems for Aerosmith as they worked on their 5th album,' Draw The Line'
The band members claim that their music began to turn "cloudy" due to fights, heavy drug use and fatigue "The Beatles made their 'White Album,'" says Joe Perry. "We made our 'Black Out' album."
Problems placed aside, 'Draw the Line' became Aerosmith's third platinum record. People claim that this album is not up to scratch with the likes...
