Toshiba Portege 3500 - Best of breed, but heavy
Review of Toshiba Portege 3500 - PIII-M 1.33 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
maxmidnight
Advantages: Robust, powerful, functionally superior to the competition. All you could ask for from a tablet pc.
Disadvantages: Can get hot, but nothing to worry about, battery life shorter than with other models (3.5hrs), heavier than the competition making it awkward for the true mobile user.
...Over the past few months, I have been evaluating and rolling out tablet PC's across my organisation within the Health industry. My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, and the Toshiba Portégé 3500. What follows is a brief discussion of the Toshiba Portege 3500 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative.
Of all the tablet PC's currently on the market the Toshiba Portégé 3500 has the best performance of all the systems because it uses the Intel Pentium III-M 1.33 GHz processor and a fast hard drive. Perhaps as a consequence of the faster processor, the Toshiba is also the hottest and noisiest; it is the only Tablet PC I have used which utilises a case fan. Furthermore, it has the shortest battery life (3:05 versus 3:25 for the top-scoring Fujitsu). Unlike...

Top of the range Toshiba
Review of Toshiba Portege M400-3G143 - Core 2 Duo T5500 1.66 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
xxsupergirlxo
Advantages: Great value for what it is, very portable, durable, useful, good screen, fun to use
Disadvantages: Easily breakable keys, no touch screen, only stylus/lightpen useable not fingers.
...as at hotspots. This may be attractive to any (rich) people who need to look at their emails immediately or watch a very important video on youtube.
The price of the computer isn't too steep either, about the same as most extra-portable or tablet PCs are nowadays.
Overall this is a great computer, I would highly recommend this or one of the m700 range - exactly the same as this but with a touch screen, not just using the stylus. Congratulations, Toshiba, for making another excellent creation for us all to enjoy!...

Living with a Toshiba Libretto U100
Review of Toshiba Libretto U100 - Pentium M 753 1.2 GHz - 7.2" TFT - with docking station by
tasfalen
Advantages: Storage Speed Battery Convenience
Disadvantages: Keyboard Biometrics
...The Toshiba Libretto U100 is a sub-notebook, similar to Fujitsu's Lifebook or the trendy OQO. It packs a full-featured PC into a very small package. In this case: a Pentium M 1.2Ghz with 512MB RAM, 60GB HD and a 7.2" widescreen running Windows XP Home.
I purchased my Libretto about a month ago in preparation for traveling to a conference. A local big box store had them on clearance, including the optional dock. The dock adds a DVD multi-recorder.
Maximum power combined with maximum portability were my primary considerations in purchasing a new notebook, and I have been pleased with the Libretto. Its a unique machine, however, and not without issues relating to its novelty.
Some of the positive aspects of my experience with the Libretto:
Storage: the Libretto has a 60GB HD, unusual for a sub-notebook and a good size...

THE TABLET EVERYONE'S TALKING ABOUT
Review of HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1100 - Pentium M 1 GHz - 10.4" TFT by
jellybean11
Advantages: speed, has speakers, compact, solidly built, good battery life, USB ports
Disadvantages: keypad, no power brightness ratio
...easier because you don’t have to worry about where you’re putting your hand.
The best screen resolution is achieved at 1024x768 on this PC. Anyone who knows about this sort of thing will realise that this it isn’t an ideal resolution, but it works best on this Tablet PC; because text comes out very crisp and clear. Although the colours are impressive unfortunately the lack of brightness on the tablet PC screen degrades the colour quality slightly.
The only major downside to this screen that I have experienced while using the Compaq Tablet is using it outdoors. Under sunlight I could barely read the screen which obviously isn’t ideal if you are planning on using it outside. An improvement would be to include a power brightness ratio as we have on our ordinary PCs but unfortunately this is a feature that very few notebook screens have...

Toshiba E740 - Good in Theory?
Review of Toshiba Pocket PC E740 by
bluerose28
Advantages: New 400Mhz processor**Good neat design**64Mb in-built memory
Disadvantages: Cannot support Pocket PC 2003**A bit buggy
...Toshiba E740, one of the first pocket pcs to have the power of Intel PXA250 400 MHz, does sound impressive, doesn't it? It has a smooth silver metal design, is compact and supports pocket pc 2002. It has a digital voice recorder, pocket word and excel, all the standard pocket pc programs in the included installation cd.
**The E740 comes with a CF (Compact Flash) Slot, and an SD Slot for memory.
There are 4 buttons and a small silver directional pad on the very front of the pocket pc, below the screen. The other buttons are along the edges of this device, including the recorder's button, which is unwittingly pressed when the device happens to press against anything (in a bag, in your pocket), turning it on and recording you without you knowing, draining the battery.
You also press the buttons by mistake when trying to get...

Best value tablet / laptop hybrid
Review of Toshiba Portege M200 - Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz - 12.1" TFT by
gothicbob
Advantages: Price, Build quality, Features
Disadvantages: Quite old now, Not fast compared to newer laptops, No CD drive
..., so you can put it on your legs without getting them burnt.
The only disadvantages are that it doesn't have a internal CD drive, and that the Toshiba external CD drives are quite expensive. However other brand external CD drives can be much more reasonable. The laptop is quite old now, so it obviously isn't going to be as fast as the cutting edge laptops around, however it preforms very well for its age and is more than capable at taking everything I can throw at it. ( moderate usage, word processing, internet, drawing etc.)
I don't think there are many computer shops selling these laptops anymore, ebay is probably the best place to look. I purchased mine for a very reasonable £300 two years ago on ebay, and I have recently sold it on ebay for £160.
I would highly recommend this laptop to anyone looking for a reasonably price...

revolutionary ultra-portable computer
Review of Compaq Tablet PC TC1000 - TM5800 1 GHz - 10.4" TFT by
Kezzalea
Advantages: flexable, light, saves time, hand and speech regonition
Disadvantages: longer battery, not cheap for spec
...The Tablet PC TC1000 is a full-function PC, with the power of Windows XP Tablet PC Edition classed as a revolutionary ultra-portable computer that you can write into using a stylus, removing the need for a keyboard and mouse
The TC1000 looks good and is cased in tough magnesium alloy, 20 times more durable than plastic. At 0.8-inch thin and weighing just 3.0 pounds, it is one of the lightest, most portable computers in the industry.
From Tablet to Notebook
The transition is smooth from tablet to notebook there is a mobile keyboard fitted neatly beneath the system, this swings open for easy access, or can be completely removed.
Windows XP Tablet PC Edition
Because the Tablet uses Windows XP Tablet PC edition it can run all your current applications. Email, Internet, whatever you use on your normal PC you can use on the tablet...

Affordable and powerful Tablet PC
Review of Acer Travelmate 250PE by
Vicster1784
Advantages: Good spec, reasonable price
Disadvantages: Tablet idea implemented very badly
...wasn’t too impressive but it does the job.
Overall
The main selling point of this laptop should be the Tablet PC functionality. After all that’s what you are paying more for. However this feature is very poorly implemented. The screen is quite hard to use because you have to lean forward at a quite uncomfortable angle. The touchscreen only responds to the stylus that is provided with the laptop, so you can’t just use your finger to operate it. There is no slot to store the stylus so if you lose it you are pretty much left without Tablet PC functionality.
In terms of battery life it was very poor running for just over 2 hours, but considering the impressive desktop-class parts it’s hardly surprising. If you are looking for a good Tablet PC, look to Toshiba, which I heard is better in this area. I’ll try and get my hands on one to give...

TOP TOSH OR TATTY TOSHIBA
Review of Toshiba Pocket PC E330 by
Chrissy792
Advantages: excellent quality screen, long life battery, very stylish
Disadvantages: volume is very which is not good for sat nav, does tend to freeze at times
...you attach the toshiba to your computer it remembers what is stored on it. Therefore, say yoy have a file on the palm top and you delete it by accident, attach the usb lead and there the document is back on the screen.
To conclude this product I would say it is a stylish fashionable pda with hand recognition and an array of helpful programs. It is extremely good as a personal organiser etc, but not to good as a navigation system.
This toshiba is cheap valuing at approximately £150 new and anything from £60 up second hand....

Toughness for anywhere but lacking a bit of kick
Review of Panasonic Toughbook 18 Tablet PC version - Pentium M 900 MHz - 10.4" TFT by
maxmidnight
Advantages: Tough enough for all environments with best of breed battery life.
Disadvantages: Keyboard cannot be detached, weighty, lacks power for multi application use.
...Over the past few months, I have been evaluating and rolling out tablet PC's across my organisation within the Health industry. My evaluation has covered the HP Compaq TC1100, the Motion M1200, the Fujitsu Stylistic ST4120, Toshiba Portégé 3500 and Panasonic Toughbook 18. What follows is a brief discussion of the Panasonic Toughbook 18 which I hope will give users some guidance and prove informative.
The Panasonic Toughbook range is arguably the market leader in robust tablet devices. It is the first device which truly stands up to hazardous condition testing and certainly is the most robust device for our specific requirements within the Trust. It has the best durability because it is wrapped in strong magnesium-aluminium, and is solid in construction: the screen doesn't wobble and all the parts fit together beautifully. Not only...
