The famous Taj Mahal jewel of India is known all over the globe for its incredible beauty and elegance. Now you can recreate this modern wonder of the...
Advantages: One of Indias most famous buildings, most well preserved and architecturally beautiful tomb in the world Disadvantages: None
...The Taj Mahal in Agra has to be one of the classic images of India and one of the World's major landmarks.
I was once told you should only really go there with a lover, but I wasn't any less in awe just because i was in a group of 20, 17 year olds.
It''s one of those places, along with the Great Wall of China, that I've always thought of as a place that you have to visit at some point in your life.
Admittedly I ended up there quite by accident - if you can call having a fight cancelled and then missing the flight out of Delhi an accident.... but there you go.
Agra was the centre for the Mughal emperors until they moved their capital to Delhi in 1637. And the Taj Mahal is infact a tomb.
Built in 1631 by Mughal emperor, Shah Jahan as a tribute to his second wife, Mumtaz Mahal, after she died giving birth to their 14th child...
...After my marriage I and my husband went to Goa for a holiday. We have booked the room in Taj Holiday Village through a Travel Agency. Although My husband has researched a bit about the place on internet, but the real surprise was when we reached hotel. Our flight from Delhi-Goa reached Goa airport by the evening about 6:00 PM. Within about hour and half we were at the hotel by hotel cab which was waiting at airport for us. After reaching the hotel it took just two minutes to get the room that was booked by us. Then hotel staff took us to our room by small car. The cars are used because the hotel is a really big property. The Hotel on arrival gives the map of the property for ease of reach. The rooms of the hotel are arranged is cottages. Some cottages are the single room cottage. some have more than one room in it. We were given...
Advantages: Superb At Sunrise Disadvantages: Big Crowds Later in The Day,
...The Taj Mahal stills stands as immaculately today as it did when it was first constructed. So the story goes, it was built by the Mogul Emperor Shah-Jahan between 1631 and 1645 in memory of his favourite wife. The mausoleum, it is said, still contains the crypt where she was eventually laid to rest. The emperor had made plans to build a black marble replica for his own mausoleum on the opposite bank of the Yamuna River, but only the foundations were laid before he was imprisoned at Agra Fort, in full view of the Taj Mahal, by his son. He stayed imprisoned for the remainder of his life, where he eventually died 1666.
Recently it has been suggested that the Taj Mahal was not built specifically as a mausoleum, but is in fact an ancient Hindu temple that had been 'captured' and converted by the Emperor. In fact, there is extremely strong...
Advantages: The sheer beauty of the mausoleum. Disadvantages: None
...It had been my dream to go to the Taj Mahal for so long. Its sheer beauty seemed to grab a hold of me everytime I saw a picture of it. My eyes were fixated and I found myself unable to tear myself away from the different pictures I came across. I desperately wanted to see the amazing mausoleum for real.
Soon my time came as my family had decided to visit the North of India in order to see Agra, Jaipur and Delhi. I was so excited at this prospect and made sure that I had 1 whole film just for the Taj Mahal. When the day finally came for us to visit it, my cousins and I decided that we would close our eyes before entering the grounds so that the first thing we saw was the tomb in all its glory, not blocked by obstacles. The streets were so dusty and the weather was muggy. Despite feeling lethargic due to the sweltering heat, we carried...
Advantages: Seeing the Taj Mahal for real is everything you dreamed of Disadvantages: Mind you don't slip on the smooth marble
...The very best time to visit the Taj Mahal is first thing in the morning as the sun rises. The day we visited there was a slight haze which lifted quickly revealing the monument in all its beauty. Photographs are a must, the beauty of the place is so overwhelming that you feel that no picture you have seen before does it justice, but of course your?s will. For the price of 10 rupees I was guided to a position to the left, inside of the entrance so that I could photograph the Taj Mahal framed in the arch of the building that forms the entrance. I had my photo taken on the same seat as Princess Diana, looking happier, feeling privileged to be there.
Before you climb the steps to the actual tomb, you must remove your shoes. The marble is so smooth that you must take care not to slip if you keep socks on.
The entrance is...
Advantages: World Heritage Site, beautiful, impressive, must see, etc. Disadvantages: Crowds, conmen, oppressive atmosphere
...There have been few occasions in my life when I have felt envious of the late Diana, Princess of Wales, but the day I visited the Taj Mahal was one of them.
A celebrated photograph shows her sitting alone in front of the world-famous edifice, which was built as a monument to love, its grounds having been cleared for her visit. The photo was widely interpreted at the time, just after the collapse of her marriage, as a moving testament to her solitude. Queuing among the crowds around the entrance to the Taj, fending off the beggars and touts, I could only interpret it as a moving testament to the privileges conferred by rank and fame.
The Taj Mahal is unquestionably a beautiful building, and splendidly situated, well deserving of its status as a World Heritage Site, but the beauty and splendour come at a cost. The cost is not...
Advantages: It is Excellent in every respect Disadvantages: Very Expensive
...When we visited Kochi (Cochin) in May, we decided to spend a weekend at the Taj Malabar hotel. We had won some vouchers which we could redeem at the Taj group of hotels and that's what made us stay at this very pricey classy hotel. It was well worth the price though...the double room cost us Rs 12,380/-(approximately 160 pounds). There are more expensive deluxe rooms and suites..
Taj Malabar is ideally located overlooking the Cochin harbor and the Waterfront, a view of the Mattancheery river beyond as it joins the sea at Cochin. The views are magnificent both during the day and at sunset and at night with all those glittering lights .The Hotel is 8 kms away from Cochin situated on the Willingdon man made island.
I was thoroughly impressed the moment we set foot into the reception area, which was very elegantly furnished with ethnic...

Review of Taj Malabar, Cochin
Advantages: Luxurious, quiet, relaxed but excellent service and facilities Disadvantages: None except it's too far to go for a short break.
...The Taj Exotica, Goa is a five star resort which overlooks the Arabian Sea. It is a Mediterranean style hotel which is one of the best five star hotels in Goa. It set amid 56 acres of carefully manicured gardens which the gardeners seem to tens at all hours of the day and night.
There are huge, tall palm trees all around the front which gives the building an exotic, tropical air as you go in via the front doors.
The very first thing that struck me here was the slow pace of everything. No, I don't mean that the service was poor, just that there seemed to be no need to rush anywhere, or to do anything in a hurry. Everything from have a drink beside the pool to dining in one of the restaurants is relaxed and somehow refreshing. It is certainly a welcome break from city life.
There is an almost tropical feel around this hotel from...

Review of Taj Exotica, Goa
Advantages: Clean, comfortable, close to the porn! Disadvantages: Limited Dining, crap bar and dirty lobby toilets
..., but most of these are far short of the international standard. There are local independent hotels but only one was reviewed favourably on any site that I checked. Or there is The Chandela, which is part of the Taj group. The Taj it ain't but it is good enough.
Arrival and The Lobby
I had booked a transfer from the airport and, sure enough, there he was holding a piece of paper with my name on it. He took our bag and helped us to the car, an Indian Qualis 4x4 which is a bit basic but large, comfortable and with working AC - it was in the high 30s.
The hotel is barely ten minutes drive from the airport and, when we arrived, we ushered into the air conditioned cool where we were greeted with traditional necklaces of orange flowers and a red bindi on the forehead, given a refreshing glass of mango juice and escorted to check in...

Review of Taj Chandela Hotel
Advantages: ROMANCE Disadvantages: Time your first view for the less crowded times.
...After reading several reviews I thought it is time to recall our visit to the Taj which is from memory so may be sketchey on detail, but there is all the necessary historical facts on other very good reviews , so this is just an old lovers memories.
Jane (My very own Queen Mumtaz Mahal) and I were coming up to our Silver Wedding Aniversery in March 1995, so we wanted a very special destination for a Holiday to celebrate, we both had a hankering for India so a two week Holiday was booked to Goa with a mini tour included of Jaipur, Agra and Delhi. (The Golden Triangle).
We had 7 Nights in Goa then it was time for the mini-tour.
It was on the Flight to Jaipur that I lost my fear of flying. Goa to Bombay not too bad the Air hostesses served Curry Meat or Veg. Plane landed at Bombay every one got off except for our tour party of 22...
