What a price for a great quality

Advantages: Preamp with intergrated tuner, well constructed, rich, warm tone
Disadvantages: Quite heavy to carry on stage

...My friend bought me this guitar last year as a birthday gift and that's probably the best gift I've ever had. This Takamine guitar has a Rosewood fretboard and a cutaway shape, which allows playing at the higher frets with ease. The first time I played it, the guitar produced a clear and warm tone that just took me right away. It even sound better when plugged into the amp. The pre-amp of this guitar has a built-in tunner, which is great for beginners who dont know how to tune the strings. Even for me, when playing gigs, this tuner is really helpful if I want to change the tuning. I cam play all styles of music with this guitar, but I love to play Jack Johnson's with it. \the strumming sounds great with warm and full tone. Just really love it. And the best thing about this guitar, is the price! Whe my friend gave it to me, I...

Roland EG-101

Advantages: Quality, sounds, grooveability
Disadvantages: Lacklustre preset patterns, clumsy OS

...I am into making dance music, and I previously had a Yamaha DJX. I would say the EG-101 is pretty similar in its features, but it isn't as immediately accessible, then again it is a much higher quality product. This is a nice looking keyboard. It has a vintage look, analogue style knobs and some nice backlit buttons. There is only a tiny LED display, however - adequate, just. The keyboard has 448 voices, some of which are just percussion sounds and not much use, but there are some seriously usable sounds here. The quality of sound production is truly excellent. The onboard speakers are also remarkably powerful. Roland's way of selecting sounds, voices etc. isn't intuitive or obvious. You have to work at it! This isn't a toy by any means, but I know they could have made the thing easier to use. There is an arpeggiator, which I...

Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG router - good???????

Advantages: good value for money, good security, very fast basic installation
Disadvantages: must read the manual for advanced settings, beware of 'lemons'

...Dynamode R-ADSL-C4W-EG - wireless router review After 16 months of use, my BT voyager 210 router exhibited symptoms of failing i.e. intermittent loss of connection, slow download speed even the ADSL line is clear. I bought this ADSL2/2+ modem from Amazon at £24.99 (good value) for my ADSL connection (I am not with ADSL2 yet) and this router confirmed that my BT voyager router was on its last leg. After installation, the download speed was back to usual. What's in the box In the box it comes with the wireless modem, DC adaptor, microfilter (only one, if you have >1 phone socket in the house, buy more), an ADSL telco cable, an Ethernet/CAT5 patch cable, a CD-ROM (contains only the electronic quick installation guide and a 'must-read' user manual) and a one page, double-sided quick installation guide. The microfilter...

Tomcats Fighting Over The Lady Feline.

Advantages: This is a well-built guitar that has plenty of appeal and sounds like the most expensive guitars on the market.
Disadvantages: This guitar has BRIDGE PINS! GOD, I HATE BRIDGE PINS!

...If you've ever read my profile page with a serious interest (i.e. not just skimming over it in order to find out if I'm the nymphomaniac most of you suspect me to be), you'll probably notice a very small blurb that indicates I am a guitarist. Yes, I play the acoustic guitar - a Takamine G-Series, to be more precise. I've been playing on and off since I was about eight years old (more "off" than "on" trust me). When I first started, I could pick up even the most beautiful, perfectly built guitar and my solos would sound like...Tomcats fighting over the lady feline. Howling, off-key, grinding crap that annoyed my mother and drove half of my four siblings delightfully mad! Oh yes, Sarah did suck royally!!! Well, eventually I outgrew the student guitar that I had been attempting to play for several years. Sometime during my...

The League Of Extraordinary Blu-Ray

Advantages: Fantastic picture, sound and at a pretty good price.
Disadvantages: Price can vary. You'll never want to leave your sofa and so any work!

...The backstory ------------------- Up until around a year ago there was a so-called 'format war'. Two formats were slugging it out in an effort to become the undisputed high-definition format of choice. HD-DVD was supported mainly by companies such as Toshiba and Microsoft - resulting in an optional HD-DVD add-on for the X-Box 360. Industry experts generally believed this to be the more impressive format, due to its extra range of features such as picture in picture (2 screens at once e.g. the movie and director interview) and the fact that it required less of an emphasis on upgrading and improving along the way. Blu-Ray was given staunch support by Sony and Panasonic amongst others, and boasted about the later updates to its technology available via internet linking, which it claimed would help it stay ahead of the pack in...

Great mid-price electro acoustic

Advantages: A nice, affordable guitar - and available left handed!
Disadvantages: The Graphic eq is not that effective.

...I bought my Takamine G series (EG54 left handed) about 2 years ago, and simply love playing it. I admit I'm not a huge fan of acoustic music, but this guitar certainly helped. Its a pleasure to play, with an amp or without - the neck is nice and fast for an acoustic and just feels good to play. The guitar has some weight to it as well, which i like, as it feels like your are actually playing a crafted instrument rather than some plastic cheap toy. Add to this that it looks awesome, and you have a really pleasing instrument. The simple to use controls like gain, eq bypass and the 3 band Eq make dialling in a fairly great tone easy, and although i don't really need the tuner, its handy as a quick reference to make sure your really in tune. However, I've found that the 3 band tuner mentioned above doesn't really have a huge effect to...

Inexpensive profile 2.0 Blu-Ray player

Advantages: Inexpensive. Stunning picture quality. Well made
Disadvantages: Minimal output connectivity

...The format war between Blu-ray and HD DVD has finally been won, with Blu-ray the only survivor after most of the film studios backed just that format, about a year ago. Both formats output "Full HD" (1080p resolution) and Full HD televisions are also quite affordable, so now could be the time to upgrade from DVD. With a suitable television Blu-ray is quite stunning in comparison and even "upscaled" DVD cannot compete. The Format War Continues Unfortunately the format war continues because Blu-Ray exists in three different forms: profiles 1.0, 1.1 and 2.0. I won't go into the full specifications of each, but the main difference is that 1.0 is capable of playing the film, 1.1 has additional memory and computing power to allow some extra features that might be on the Blu-Ray disk to be played simultaneously with the film (e.g...

A good Blu Ray player at a reasonable price

Advantages: Vibrant picture, reasonable price.
Disadvantages: Some 'jerkiness'. Limited SD Card and Divx capability. Some expected formats not accepted.

...I am using this player with a 720p 37 inch TV screen viewed from around 3 metres and I have to say the picture quality is very impressive. The colours are vibrant, the detail fantastic but I have noticed some panning shots are not smooth on blu ray. I have also tried it on a 720p 42? screen and compared blu ray discs with the same films on DVD (through an upmarket DVD player). The difference in sharpness and colour are very noticable but the DVD versions do not exhibit the panning issue (they are smooth). The BD35 upscales ordinary DVDs well. Be aware that the player does not play all disc types/formats (some are obvious ? it will not play HD discs or cartridge discs; but others are less obvious ? eg it will not play DVD-R/W version1, Video CD & SVCD, DVD audio). Also the SD card will show jpeg pictures but only video with the specific...

Intelligent design... quality not quantity!

Advantages: Durability, intelligent design, advanced OS system eliminates shakes, good accessories
Disadvantages: Easy to be ripped off, not always in stock, overhyped, few unsual features

...A review of the new Panasonic HDC-SD5EG-K, a digital camcorder. SUMMARY: 1) DIMENSIONS/WEIGHT 2) APPEARANCE 3) DURABILITY 4) RECORDING 5) LENS 6) DISPLAY 7) FEATURES 8) ACCESSORIES 9) OVERALL DIMENSIONS/WEIGHT: This camera is the world's smallest 3CCD High Definition Camcorder, and it's also extremely light, weighing in at less than most of its competitors at 340g. APPEARANCE: Disappointing. It's just a regular, black camcorder design - only small. No special aesthetics here! DURABILITY: The design of the camera is unique: the memory cards are internal (built-in) and there are no fragile moving parts in the recording section. Obviously, you have to treat any camera with respect and this camcorder is no different, BUT it's exceptionally durable. RECORDING: You record in EITHER still images (JPEG, a standard format...
