I love my Tannoy's
Review of Tannoy Reveal by
chongster
Advantages: Very clear, very crisp
Disadvantages: slight lack of bottom end! Tho I wouldnt frett.
...Finally ! After 2 years i've got my small home studio together. Why so long? laziness and a sheer huge ammount of university work to do, that's why.
Im Welsh but you could forgive me for being Scottish by my meaness when it comes to forking out for equipment (only joking, no offence to any Scottish, just mirroring an urban myth of being tight with the cash heh.)
The Tannoy Reveal Actives come in at around £359. Believe me I've been to every single site to find the cheapest price and they all more or less (+-10%) fizzle off at that price. I was told about these monitors a while ago and that if I wanted to use them for dance music that I should think twice! Whoever that was, they got it wrong. These babys boom loud let me tell you. I was amazed by the clarity of the sound. They handled the roughest, most dirty basslines I could...

Tannoy Mercury m3 floorstanders
Review of Tannoy M3 by
iangrant
Advantages: Deep bass, weighty sound. Relatively cheap.
Disadvantages: Actually discontinued (seek out newer mx3s), treble and detail can sound a little less exciting compared to other speakers.
...As I said, I don't know what the mx3s are like, but I expect them to sound similar, but with an improved (tweaked) sound.
Unfortunately, these speakers aren't bi-wireable so an upgrade involves new speakers. Perhaps Tannoy's Revolution R2s or R3s would be the way to go - I haven't heard these myself, but they have received good reviews and are more aimed at hi-fi than home cinema.
If you use these in a home cinema set up, Tannoy also make rear, centre and subwoofer speakers in the Mercury range, so get yourself a surround sound (5.1) amp/receiver and a DVD player, widescreen TV... etc.....

Tannoy takes centre stage.
Review of Tannoy Mercury mXc-M Centre Speaker by
g8ina
Advantages: Great price Vs performance, compact, good sound.
Disadvantages: Very minor "boxiness" in mid range.
..., probably a bit of a hump at around 800Hz, if my gut feel is anything to go by (that and 22 years in the industry)......
The Tannoy MxC is a small, compact 3 way speaker unit, with two main drivers and a central tweeter. My model has a light Maple wood finish, but it comes in other colour schemes to suit your furnishings.
The speaker is intended to sit either on top of your TV, or, in my case, underneath it. It is a good idea to have the TV sit on top of the speaker if possible, as this will anchor the speaker cabinet solidly in place so the cones can move freely against the cabinet, and not cause any phase errors or other distorions. Its the same priciple as spike mounting the main speakers onto the floor (see my EVO3 review for more info).
The two main drivers are 130mm diameter placed either side of the single centre placed tweeter...

Sheffield's Largest Indoor Arena!
Review of The Sheffield Hallam FM Arena by
micksheff
Advantages: Large Seating Capacity And Flexible Seating Plans
Disadvantages: Expensive Bar Prices
...Since its official opening by Her Majesty The Queen on the 31st May 1991 the Sheffield Hallam FM Arena has established itself as one of the most prominent venues in the city.
It was originally designed and built to host the World Student Games, which were held in Sheffield in 1992. Since this time it has received over 7 million visitors and hosted a multitude of live sporting and musical events. It has also hosted many exhibitions and conferences.
My most recent visit to this place was a few days ago when I went here to see the Scissor Sisters and a thoroughly enjoyable night was had by all. It is this most recent visit which has prompted me to write this review.
THE HISTORY
The Hallam FM Arena occupies a 19-acre site in an area to the East of Sheffield City Centre known as the Lower Don Valley. Historically this was the area...

The M.E.N arena
Review of Manchester Evening News Arena by
Sirus619
Advantages: Great buzz when packed out
Disadvantages: Situated in the middle of manchester
...I went to the Manchester evening news arena to watch WWE rebellion this year (October 26th) although there were only the smackdown roster there (ill be writing about the WWE soon).
First off this was my first time to a WWE event so I didn’t know what to expect. I have watched the wrestling show on TV so I did have an idea of what the set-up would be like. Word of advice it is absolutely nothing like TV!!!!
Brief background of WWE production team, when you watch WWE on television the production team show you what they want you to see. The normal view is of the ring from the side which is the main view and occasionally the flick to a close up camera. There are often promo’s set in the show which break up two different matches (give the first set of wrestlers time to exit the arena before the next set are due in.
First of I got my...

Arena at its best
Review of Quake III Arena (PC) by
existtoinspire
Advantages: great action, cool weapons and maps
Disadvantages: less variety, small game without the extra mods
...AN EXCELLENT ARENA
Being a regular gamer, Quake 3 Arena is one of the games which I should never miss at any cost. Unreal Tournament had kept me away from this game for almost an year, but the release of UT 2003 saw me shifting to Quake 3, as I was an admirer of Quake 2 myself. There was also a time when I found it hard to play Quake 3 without a satisfying graphics card. I had never rated Quake 3 too high until I re-installed it for my comparitively older laptop. Well, couldn't resist myself from playing it all over again.
Quake 3 was once again added to the list inspite of my promise to myself, not to play a game which requires no big card. Quake 3 is one of the games which can keep anyone glued to the screen even after this long years. Another online multiplayer bonanza like the Unreal Tournament, the Arena has kept...

The Amsterdam ArenA
Review of Hotel Arena, Amsterdam by
Marechal_Grouchy
Advantages: Very impressive stadium, state-of-the-art technology, good view of the action
Disadvantages: Atmosphere not as intense as smaller, more partisan grounds
...goodbye to restricted view seats!
Every time I have visited the ArenA, I have sat in the lower section of the upper tier. This provides a fantastic view of the match. However, the height of the seat, coupled with the large gutter dividing front-row seats from the field, means that one is somewhat removed from the action. Managers could actually do worse than analyze the match from such a vantage point, were it not for the need to shout instructions at the players.
If you fancy a snack or a beer at half time, the ArenA is equipped with the expected fast food outlets. All of them are set in a kind of outer tunnel which goes completely around the stadium, and which you walk along to eventually get to your seat. Unfortunately, a rather annoying card system is in use here, which you must abide by to get served at all. One needs to buy...

Quake 3 Arena PC
Review of Quake III Arena (PC) by
FlameDruid
Advantages: A rich and absorbing online experience
Disadvantages: You may become addicted and play too much
...Quake 3 Arena is not a new game. It is however a fantastic one. The lack of newness simply means that you can get it on budget really cheap. There's nothing wrong with that.
It is an FPS - a First Person Shooter - by the makers of Doom, Doom 2, and the recent Doom 3 - Id Software. That means you get to follow your choice of gun around, moving in any direction, trying to frag people before they frag you first. Frag=kill only it sounds nicer.
Once fragged you immediately come back to life and off you go again. The person who got you scored a point and the first to the 'fraglimit' of the game is the winner.
There is a single player and a multiplayer mode. The single player game actually imitates the internet experience so you can set the enemies called bots to a low level ability and build up your skills against them without too...

Quake 3 Arena
Review of id software - Quake 3 arena by
Fragma220
Advantages: Multiplayer Mode
Disadvantages: Small Single Player Mode
...Since the dawn of time, ID Software have produced first-person shoot-em-ups, from the heady days of Wolfenstein 3D to the heady days of Quake II. And now, their latest offering is Quake III Arena.
Everyone knows the story line was tacked onto Doom, Quake and Quake II just so people who still had to pay for local calls could enjoy shooting things without running up an enormous phone bill. Everyone else connected to the internet and fragged literally each other 24 hours a day. In a similar way, Quake III Arena does provide a single player option, but the real fun starts when you begin playing online.
So what's it like? Well, gone are the missions, monsters, keys, buttons and puzzles, and it`s hello to a complete frag-fest of destruction. You run around the arenas, collecting ammo and weapons, shooting everything that moves...
