I love my Tannoy's
Review of Tannoy Reveal by
chongster
Advantages: Very clear, very crisp
Disadvantages: slight lack of bottom end! Tho I wouldnt frett.
...Finally ! After 2 years i've got my small home studio together. Why so long? laziness and a sheer huge ammount of university work to do, that's why.
Im Welsh but you could forgive me for being Scottish by my meaness when it comes to forking out for equipment (only joking, no offence to any Scottish, just mirroring an urban myth of being tight with the cash heh.)
The Tannoy Reveal Actives come in at around £359. Believe me I've been to every single site to find the cheapest price and they all more or less (+-10%) fizzle off at that price. I was told about these monitors a while ago and that if I wanted to use them for dance music that I should think twice! Whoever that was, they got it wrong. These babys boom loud let me tell you. I was amazed by the clarity of the sound. They handled the roughest, most dirty basslines I could...

Tannoy Mercury m3 floorstanders
Review of Tannoy M3 by
iangrant
Advantages: Deep bass, weighty sound. Relatively cheap.
Disadvantages: Actually discontinued (seek out newer mx3s), treble and detail can sound a little less exciting compared to other speakers.
...As I said, I don't know what the mx3s are like, but I expect them to sound similar, but with an improved (tweaked) sound.
Unfortunately, these speakers aren't bi-wireable so an upgrade involves new speakers. Perhaps Tannoy's Revolution R2s or R3s would be the way to go - I haven't heard these myself, but they have received good reviews and are more aimed at hi-fi than home cinema.
If you use these in a home cinema set up, Tannoy also make rear, centre and subwoofer speakers in the Mercury range, so get yourself a surround sound (5.1) amp/receiver and a DVD player, widescreen TV... etc.....

Tannoy takes centre stage.
Review of Tannoy Mercury mXc-M Centre Speaker by
g8ina
Advantages: Great price Vs performance, compact, good sound.
Disadvantages: Very minor "boxiness" in mid range.
..., probably a bit of a hump at around 800Hz, if my gut feel is anything to go by (that and 22 years in the industry)......
The Tannoy MxC is a small, compact 3 way speaker unit, with two main drivers and a central tweeter. My model has a light Maple wood finish, but it comes in other colour schemes to suit your furnishings.
The speaker is intended to sit either on top of your TV, or, in my case, underneath it. It is a good idea to have the TV sit on top of the speaker if possible, as this will anchor the speaker cabinet solidly in place so the cones can move freely against the cabinet, and not cause any phase errors or other distorions. Its the same priciple as spike mounting the main speakers onto the floor (see my EVO3 review for more info).
The two main drivers are 130mm diameter placed either side of the single centre placed tweeter...

Windows Media Center 2005 - My HTPC
Review of Microsoft Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005 Licence and media by
thehitman
Advantages: User Friendly, Easy to Use, Value for Money, Comprehensive Operating System.
Disadvantages: Poor Documentation, Titanic Struggle Installing Operating System
...I have a DVD player, CD Player, A/V Amplifier sitting in my front room all linked to my LCD TV and Sky Digi Box. They all work fine but it does take up quite a bit of room and I'd realistically like an HTPC set up to bring my multimedia module into one unit!
Enter Windows Media Center 2005!
My setup consists of a Silverstone LC16M Case which houses an Asus A8N-SLi Motherboard, Hauppage PVR 250, Maxtor Diamond Max 250GB Hard Drive, 1GB Crucial Dual Channel DDR Memory to name just the main core of my system.
Contents of Windows Media Center 2005 Pack.
You will be supplied with two CD's, a Setup Guide and a Product Key to be placed on your system. To make full use of Media Center it is recommended that you also purchase a Media Center Remote Control & Extender.
Installation of Media Center 2005.
Installation of most...

Center Parcs - Longleat
Review of Center Parcs Longleat Forest, Costwolds by
brereton66
Advantages: Great for families
Disadvantages: Not so great if you don't like kids
...Center Parcs - Longleat
Taking a young family on holiday is a tricky business with a completely different set of requirements than when going away as a couple. Not least among these is the amount of baby paraphernalia that you need to take. When our youngest was about ten months we took her to New England and managed to get everything into a couple of suitcases and carry on luggage plus a pushchair but now we have two the amount of extra baggage seems to have more than just doubled and unless the destination is particularly child friendly the need for travel cots, gates etc makes the holiday load a bit much for airline travel. For this reason recent holidays have been UK based. The last couple of years have been spent in Cornwall at a friend's apartment but we thought that this year we would have a change. Having heard favourable...

Center Parcs - Family Fun in the Forest!
Review of Center Parcs by
fallen121
Advantages: Great family holiday, perfect for kids, lovely natural setting, plenty to do
Disadvantages: Lodges can be shabby, you will wear yourself out with all the activity!
...Center Parcs is a resort type holiday where the aim is to enjoy a family holiday in natural surroundings. Accommodation is in self catering units, although there are plenty of restaurants available. The holiday can be as relaxing or as active as each individual chooses. There are plenty of optional activities available for those that want to keep busy or expand their horizons. The basic cost of the holiday includes accommodation and you then pay for any additional pursuits you wish to engage in. The main attraction for most families is the natural setting and almost total absence of cars. Apart from the checking in days of Monday and Friday no cars are allowed. This makes for a very peaceful holiday where the main mode of transport is on foot, by bike or even in some cases on horseback!
This review covers the Center Parcs at Whinfell...

Center Parcs Whinfell - Exiting yet relaxing
Review of Center Parcs Oasis Whinfell, Penrith by
Matty_P
Advantages: Loads to Do, Fun for the whole Family
Disadvantages: Sports can be expensive
...-Introduction-
Center Parcs has so much to offer whether it is the sports or the relaxing pool. Everybody who goes will enjoy there stay. I have been several times to Center Parcs and have booked to go again soon.
-What Is Center Parcs?-
Center Parcs is a Holiday Destination which looks like a village inside a forest; it has a small supermarket, lodges to live in and restaurants
-Arrival-
On arrival at Center Parcs you will first have to check in and do all the usual hand in required forms and information. You will then be given your key card, you then drive to your lodge and unpack your luggage, this is the only time you are allowed to drive your car inside the village, you can check in from 3:30pm but from previous experience there are quite a lot of queues at this time so I would recommend going a bit later after 4...

Center Parcs-Longleat
Review of Center Parcs Longleat Forest, Costwolds by
victoriash
Advantages: Relaxing, scenic, plenty to do for adults and children alike
Disadvantages: Activities are expensive, restaurants overrated
...My husband and I recently took our 12 month old son to Center Parcs, Longleat for a 3 day break. Center Parcs had been recommended to us by friends as an excellent holiday destination for families with children. They were right, it certainly is that. Everything about Center Parcs is geared up to appeal to the younger guest, although adults are certainly not neglected either!
Eating out at Center Parcs was quite expensive and, with the exception of the meal we had at Cafe Rouge, we found the food to be rather bland. Children were very well catered for in the restaurants, including being given toys/crayons to occupy them and some restaurants even had complimentary Baby food and microwaves to heat the food up in.
We were a little disappointed that there weren't more soft-play areas for little ones, like our 12 month old. The few...

Center Parcs Review
Review of Center Parcs by
Razzmond
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Everything!
...My mother used to work for center parcs as a cleaner so we managed to get in for free for swimming. but Center Parcs was a true disappointment.
You see the advert. Calm, serence peaceful surrounding to take that monkey off of your back and let you relax. In reality, its quite the opposite.
Swimming Facilities are poor at best not to mention the Queues where you stand around wet, now freezing and in danger of dying from a severe case of hypothermia. White water swimming rapids go about the same speed as someone shot with a horse tranquiliser and the slides give you the thrill and excitement of being kicked in the groin.
Sports Center is.....ok. Badminton (Always Full), Table Tennis (Always Full) Pool (Again full) Roller skating (Shoes are all broke or not open or full). The shops prices are abismally high because they know theres...

Center Parcs, a holiday for the whole family
Review of Center Parcs by
martinprice
Advantages: Safe, and a variety of activities for all
Disadvantages: Quite expensive and crowed in school holidays
...Want a relaxing/exciting/energetic/different holiday for the whole family? Well Center Parcs can be all of these. We started going when our children were babies and are still going now, twelve years later. Clearly our needs have changed over time but always Center Parcs has been able to provide what we need.
We have been to two of the three sites in England, those at Elveden (nr Cambridge) and Sherwood near Nottingham. Each offers differnt things, Elveden is flater and the facilities are located all together, much better for families with young children, Sherwood is more open, probably better for Summer Visits. I understand that the one near Bath is more spectacular but also hillier.
From the outside the accomodation looks tatty but inside you will find most things you need and you have a reasonable amount of privacy.
We always have...
