Cheaper than Chips
Advantages: Special offers, discounts, good value
Disadvantages: None that I can speak off
...Many of you reading this will know I was on the Tesco Value tariff. However my phone decided to pack up again and so I decided it was time for a new one.
Being a big Tesco fan, this was my first port of call. I'd done my research I knew the phone I wanted and how much it would be. While I was looking at the phone range in the store I noticed an advert for the Tesco Extra tariff. This is a new facility offered by the Tesco network and has only been available a short time.
The advert explained that all calls would cost 10p a minute and all texts would cost 5p. I couldn't believe it, Tesco were getting even cheaper. I was a bit confused as this was even cheaper than the Value tariff, but then I noticed the one thing I always dread *. Oh, forget it I thought, there'll be a long list of terms and conditions that you have to match to...

top tariff
Advantages: stylish phone, good call time
Disadvantages: can't buy £5 top up cards
...When i went looking for a mobile phone, i decided to look for the best tariff. There were many good tariffs, but you had to pay service with bt cellnet you don't.
I have had a bt cellnet phone for almost a year now and it has been alot cheaper as many people still have landlines. Its a good phone and the hearing quality is good. There phones are pretty stylish and top ups are avaliable in £10, £25 and £50.
I would recommend this phone to anyone, as it is a good reliable company....

Tesco Mobile a good Tariff
Advantages: Simple Tariff, Good Reception, Credit never expires
Disadvantages: No features like "stop the clock"
...I had an old mobile and was looking for a pay as you go mobile with cheap calls specifically to my wife and for the kids to use when they are out.
Tesco have a choice of three tariffs which are as follows
Value which is simply a phone and texting service and all calls are 15p per minute and texts 5p per minute. There are no frills such as Internet or picture messaging. This is great if you just want a phone to be a phone in the UK only. It does not work abroad
Standard Tariff - Calls are 20p per minute and texts 10p but this will call abroad and does most other features. This tariff also allows you to have 3 numbers which you get half price calls and texts.
Extra Tariff - Calls and texts are half the Standard Tariff price (10p per minute and 5p per minute respectively.) but to stay on this tarif you must spend at least £15...

Good tariffs but poor coverage.
Advantages: Nice and cheap
Disadvantages: poor coverage
...If you are thinking about changing to an Orange tariff, please check the signal in your area.
I was on Orange before I made the switch back to Vodaphone last year.
I became interested in the Orange network when I saw their prices and their great packages.
I wanted to snap one up so I did.
Then I tried usingit and found out that the coverage of signal is really poor in my area. Being in Essex, you would expect good coverage due to its proximity to London. Well its not. Its not bad in Colchester and Chelmsford but very poor at the Dartford area and in Witham.
Im not sure if its interference or lack of aerials, but it sure is poor.
Orange offered me a free phone (Nokia 3210) which was expensive 18 months ago, and 50 mins of free calls every day off peak. I thought it would save me money as I could make lots of off peak calls at home...

Great value tariff but possibly oversubscribed
Advantages: 50 free minutes of calls everyday
Disadvantages: Network often busy
...As a previous user of pay as you go mobile schemes, I was always vary wary of using a contract tariff because of the monthly fee and 12 month minimum sign up, despite the call charges often being much lower. Then, after winning a Nokia 7110e online, I investigated various tariffs and came across one with Orange that seemed perfect!! Orange offer a tariff called Everyday 50 which is perfect for me!!
In short, the best thing about this tariff is that you receive 50 free minutes of calls each and every day during off-peak times...off peak being between 7pm and 7am weekdays, all weekend and all Bank Holidays. The calls are completely free to any UK land line or other Orange connected mobile, and once your 50 free mins are up, you pay just 1p for each additional min (landlines) and 5p for Orange mobile calls. The monthly contract fee is...

Britains Best-Selling Tariff
Advantages: 50 free mins a day, Cheap national calls, Relatively cheap text messages
Disadvantages: Expensive daytime calls
...For all you gobby wafflers with contract phones I would seriously suggest you check out this baby. The basic tariff involves paying £15.50 per month. For your £15.50 you will get 50 minutes each day of free off peak (7pm – 7am weekdays and all day weekends!) to landlines or other orange phones. That’s a whopping 1500 minutes a month! Even cheaper than BT! This is the big-selling point of Everyday 50, but the rest of the tariff is quite good too!
The peak time calls are a bit of a penny, or rather pound pincher though and I would not recommend this tariff for daytime calls (you’ll be much better off with a pre-pay phone – TIP: - Orange Just Talk allows you to choose your own off peak hours, perfect for daytime callers). The prices look like this: -
Calls to Orange per min – 35p
Calls to other...

Everyday 50 tariff
Advantages: Cheap off-peak calls
Disadvantages: Network overloaded
...I recently got an Eriksson T28s on Everyday 50 with Orange. I'm in split mind about it at this point in time, but slightly favouring the better. As a tariff, it's everything that I need. The off-peak calls are cheaper than BT and that says a lot. Also 50 minutes daily is a lot and it's a relief to be able to use a contracted phone without having to worry about the phone bill.
The best thing is the network coverage. Having had my phone for just over a month, over which I have used it very frequently, it has not once cut off due to loss of reception. I've always got reception and that is very important if people wish to contact me. The problem arises occasionally if I wish to contact someone else just after 7 pm, when the off-peak period begins. Almost instantly, the network becomes overloaded and this means that if you attempt making...

Orange Value Promise Virgin Tariff.
Advantages: reliable,Cheap tariff several extras, including points for using the service, good reception.
Disadvantages: can take some time to reach customer services
...**Updated 22/02/2001 **
I have had an orange mobile phone for 4 years now, Paying £17.50 a month (originally for 15, then 30, now 60 free minutes per month.) If all these free minutes are used every month this works out at 29p per minute, More if the minutes are not all used (although the free minutes can be carried over until the next month.). I found out that Orange value promise also includes the Virgin Mobile Phone tariff (almost completely unpublicised by Orange), and allows me to use rates of 15p per minute for the first 5 minutes / day and 5 p / minute after this. For 60 minutes a month this will cost a maximum of £9.00 if all calls are at the 15p rate or a minimum of £3.50 if all the 60 minutes are made on the one day. For the usage I make of my phone my costs have been cut from £17.50 a month to around £2.00. Incidentally I...

Virgin Mobile's Choice of Pay as You go tariffs
Advantages: Great Value calls
Disadvantages: Lack of mobile internet bundles
...Virgin Mobile, part of the Virgin Media Group, is the UK's largest virtual mobile network now offers a choice of 2 Pay As You Go tariffs.
From my experience I found Virgin Mobile great value for money especially when making voice calls or when using voicemail, the customer service is good, the website is speedy and they reply to emails within 2 hours usually! More info about tariffs and value for money is explained below:
The Standard Tariff is ideal for those who call mainly landlines,Virgin Mobiles,080,084 and 0870 numbers as well as Voicemail. The more time you spend on the phone, the cheaper the calls become and calls to certain international destinations can be quite good value for money in comparison to other UK networks and landline providers.
The Daily Bonus Tariff is ideal if you call mostly other UK mobile networks...

good tariff, shame about the service
Advantages: good value
Disadvantages: poor customer service
...I have been on Orange Everyday 50 for the past two years and have found the tariff very suitable for my needs. However I find orange customer service to be useless and very rude.
The tariff allows you 50 minutes off peak daily for the sum of £15.00 a month. This is very good value and althought the minutes do not roll over they provide me with plenty of time to talk!
However on the number of times I have called orange for help they have left me on hold for long periods of time before finally answering. When they do answer, I don not find them very helpful at all. The operators do not seem to know what they are talking about and their system does not seem to carry all the information about the customers.
I also find the network coverage to be poor, at my home in cheshire it is very good. However, at my university in...
