...Despite a chequered past in recent years, the Brighton Tavern has emerged as a mature and attractive boozer full of character. Some years back I went there with a group of fellas on a bit of a pub crawl. It was a hard schedule and as such it was halves all round. Not only did the landlord tut tut this request, he announced it to a jeering pub and chucked us all out. We were not amused. Not least because we had put 10p in the Juke box for a play. Having said that, the whole place did stink of a ronseal factory. Then, after a few years, the Brighton Tavern was transformed with little fanfare into the B Right On Tavern. the landlord was a curious and over enthusiastic antipodean who had, and I saw it, the largest collection of extreme sport videos imagineable. He played them on the several tellies about the place much to everyone...

The Ben Crouch Tavern

Advantages: Convenient, interesting decor
Disadvantages: A tad cheesy

...This is one of the most convenient and easy to get to pubs in central London, and also has an interesting "spooky" / Hammer House of Horror sort of theme to it which makes it an interesting place to visit. HOW TO GET THERE: Finding the Ben Crouch Tavern is easy. Travel either to Oxford Circus or Tottenham Court Road tube station and head down Oxford Street (if you're coming from TCR head west, if from Oxford Street head east). You want to be walking down he north side of Oxford Street (the side wiut the big Virgin Megastore and HMV). Keep looking at the names of the roads turning off and you'll soon enough come to Wells Street. The Ben Crouch Tavern is just down there- about a hundred yards or less. Easy! THE DECOR: ...is interesting... as I stated above, it seems to be an odd, cheesy mixture of Hammer House of Horror...

Right by Port Bannatyne Marina, Isle of Bute: A Russian Tavern!

Advantages: Excellent food and drink, seashore location near marina, golfcourse to rear, economical
Disadvantages: Closed in the winter months.

A pub that has been allowed to go into rack and ruin.

Advantages: Well maintained beer.
Disadvantages: Terrible seating,falling into decay expensive drinks.

...For many years the Park Tavern in New Road Kingston Upon Thames has been a traditional pub specialising in real ales. However this hostelry has had nothing done to it for a long time and is now extremely tired and run down and is in danger of falling into decay. The seating is deplorable on one side it reminds me of a bus station waiting road. Hard benches or seats with the springs coming through. I do not think any form of decoration has been undertaken for a decade. The beer is still well maintained but it one of the most expensive in the area. The pub has not moved with the times and they still do not offer any food. the service is slow but friendly. ...It seemed like a dream. My taxi pulled up to the TAVERN. The doorman opened my door and said, "Welcome to the Tavern". I stepped out and saw beautiful horses hitched to carriages in a row. They looked like something out of a fairy tale. I entered the Tavern's peaceful, dimly lit foyer. What a contrast to the hustle and bustle of NYC. The maitre de asked if I would like the indoor dining room or the outdoor garden. I chose the garden. As I admired a beautiful flower bed, staff brought menus, water, rolls and butter in synchronized timing. I had the waiter choose a wine. Within minutes, he returned with a sizeable goblet. ...I thought that I would have to think quite hard about the subject of this, my 300th Ciao review. It didn't take me too long however to decide to write about my local Pub, The Roebuck Tavern in Sheffield. INTRODUCTION The Roebuck Tavern is one of my regular haunts within Sheffield City Centre, and as far as City Centre Pubs go it has a pleasant atmosphere with a regular, friendly clientele that makes a nice refreshing change. The Roebuck Tavern has an excellent reputation for good Home Cooked Food which makes it a favourite location for daytime Shoppers to call into for a spot of Lunch. It is also situated adjacent to the main Council Offices and there are many other Offices nearby making it popular at Lunchtimes during the week. Delightful Pub Hidden in the Heart of Oxford

Advantages: Delightful, charming, historic and good beer

...Many years ago (late 70s,early 80s) I lived and worked in Oxford and frequented a charming little pub called the Turf Tavern. In fact for several months I actually lived in rooms that the pub used to let (I don't know if they still let rooms). I had fond memories of this ancient and charming pub and so recently upon visiting Oxford with the family I took the opportunity to revisit to see if it was as I remembered. To my delight it has not changed very much. They seem to have reworked the interior at the rear a bit so there seems to be a little more room but there is still not a lot of room inside. The Turf Tavern is very well hidden but not a secret to anybody who knows Oxford. You can impress your companions with your knowledge of Oxford if you can find the Turf Tavern.
