Taxan on the wallet
Review of Taxan Ergovision 750 TCO 95 by
bobsmith
Advantages: Lots of options to perfect the image display, reliable
Disadvantages: Was quite expensive
...This is an excellent 17" monitor which I have had for about 4 years now. Although at the time it was very expensive, it has proven to be a very good investment as 17" monitors are now becoming the standard, which means that more and more web pages and games will be designed for higher and higher resolutions.
The monitor has lots of tools in its OSD (on screen display) for perfecting the picture display, such as trapezoid, top, central and bottom pin cushion adjustments, display rotation, colour separation levels, Moire pattern clear, etc. Of course it also has the usual brightness, contrast and colour adjustments.
I have not had a single problem with this monitor, and it gets a fair bit of use. When it finally does give up, or it's time to upgrade, I will definitely look at a Taxan again....

Really BIG lava lamp.
Review of Giant Grande Lava Lamp by
drewish
Advantages: Huge. Soothing. Good value.
Disadvantages: Takes forever to heat up.
...A lava lamp is, in principle, very simple. It consists of a lamp, which heats up a glass bulb filled with a waxy solid and a liquid. These cannot mix together and must have very similar densities. As the solid heats up, its density is lowered, so it rises. This cools it down and it then falls to the bottom of the lamp, creating a strangely soothing effect. In practice, making one yourself would involve messing about with expensive and perhaps flammable chemicals, so I wouldn't bother trying. It is much easier just to buy one yourself.
The Giant Grande Lava Lamp comes in two colours yellow and blue or yellow and violet. It is truly enormous at 27" and is guaranteed to be a focal point in your room. It is not called "giant" and "grande" for nothing!
My lamp is a yellow and blue model. Although the product description says "yellow...

Taxing 735
Review of Taxan Ergovision 735 TCO 99 by
floater
Advantages: Good shape,display
Disadvantages: overpriced, mine was unstable
...I bought a Taxan monitor 2 years ago. It was a smart looking monitor in my opinion and also had a useful USB hub on the base. The monitor achieved the TCO99 standards for the display . Prior to buying the Taxan I had looked upon it as superior in the world of CRT displays alot of this idea may have come from the fact that it had a superior price. When I received the monitor I thought it was very curvy and had a big chunky power button but I was pleased overall. The dot pitch is an impressive 0.25 which is very impressive with a max resoloution of 1600*1200 which is average I suppose.
A couple of months into using it the display started refreshing periodically. This started getting more frequent and in turn more irritating. The monitor then started making a boing noise when I pressed the chunky power button on every occasion...

Ok buy
Review of Taxan Ergovision 730 TCO by
GR-Design
Advantages: Good, clear quality, very sharp
Disadvantages: lower model numbers are unreliable
...Having used a range of Taxan monitors at work, I have noticed that they are an ok buy.
I have used a variety of differet models,(the 410, 530, 710) I have found that the lower number models, i.e. the 410, seem to go blurry after a while. After 2 years use, 5 out of the 12 14" 410 models we had in the offices were unuseable, while one of the 510 models out of 4 that we had at the time, was also unuseable. However, the monitors are relatively cheap and are very sharp, especially the 510's.
I would reccomend these monitors because of their quality, however, don't buy their cheap 410 models, as they are very unstable!...

Another one of my boot sale bargains
Review of Lava Lamp Model TM 20-85 by
sue26
Advantages: Great to watch, very relaxing
Disadvantages: The base get very hot
...I`ve always wanted a lava lamp but new they are not that cheap to buy. Most lamps these days start at around £30, although they are now starting to come down in price, and spending that kind of money on one product just frightens me, so I`d resigned myself to never owning one.
Then one day as sue26 and clan were browsing around our favourite shopping place, you know, that great big store known to all thrifty people called the local car boot sale, I did a quick u-turn as out of the corner of my eye I spotted a lava lamp.
Now here`s the best bit of this tale, all I paid for this little gem was, wait for it, drum roll please, £5, yes you read that correctly, just £5 for something I thought I`d never own.
Now for those of you that don`t know what one of these little beauties is then I`ll tell you. A lava lamp is a glass jar filled...

A Jellephish of your very own
Review of Jellephish Mood Lamp by
HellSoul
Advantages: Great mood lamp, easy to operate
Disadvantages: Remote can be unresponsive at greater distances
...I have had the Jellephish Mood Lamp on my desk for the past 6 months and the novelty of this mood lamp doesn't wear off after the first couple of weeks.
From the box, the lamp is a little tricky to set up, mostly because you have to fiddle with getting the cable through the center whilst lining up the glass levels, although you don't need to set the lamp up, you can just use it as a night light style lamp and put it on a wall with just the top lamp section, its up to you.
After I had finished setting up the lamp I noticed that it was a little wobbly because the cable was twisting and wasn't flat, so before setting it up I recommend that you straighten and flatten the cable as best you can, else you should be careful with it. The remote control uses 2 AAA batteries (included), it has a rubber feel to it and is comfortable to use...

I CAN SEE CLEARLY NOW ...
Review of Modelcraft PLA8093 Compact Fluorescent Table Lamp Magnifier by
JAVER1967
Advantages: EXCELLENT FOR INTRICATE AND DETAILED WORK
Disadvantages: NONE THAT I CAN THINK OFF
...MODELCRAFT COMPACT FLOURESCENT TABLE LAMP MAGNIFIER MODEL NO PLA8093
It is a sad fact of life, that the older you get, in the majority of cases, your eye sight starts to deteriorate. Over the last few years, I have started to notice this. I am 41 years of age before you ask. I am also interested in constructing small scale models, which involves delicate painting. Unfortunately, the older I get, to be able to focus properly, I need to hold objects further away to be able to focus. Gradually, over time, this is becoming more and more inconvenient, as I need to paint my models at close range, and not at arms length. At some stage, I have nightmares that one day my arms will not be long enough to compensate.
I have decided recently to do something about it, and have bought a Modelcraft Compact Fluorescent Table Lamp Magnifier...

Light up your desk or not
Review of GU10 Desk Lamp by
Maxlarndison
Advantages: Can move the light into any position
Disadvantages: Gets way to hot
...Just before Christmas I brought myself I new desk for my computer and I decided that I would also get myself a lamp for the desk as I only had the main light of the room, so I had a look round and found this one, it looked ideal.
~Product~
It is an adjustable lamp. You have the option of moving 3 different parts of the lamp. At the top you have the head which you can move up and down or from side to side depending where you want the light to shine, you as have a metal stick that comes out of the head so you can move the head to where you want it. Then you have the mid section, this part just goes up and down so you can adjust the height of the lamp, which again I found very helpful.
Then you have the bottom section this you can move round 360 degrees to suit you, so you have the light exactly how you want it.
It came with a GU...
