Andorra heaven or hell

Advantages: cheap good mountains
Disadvantages: too many people shopping

...high up in the mountains here below by the stream butterflies fly visiting wild flowers for nectar as I look into the sky I see buzzards flying and I think that is an Egyptian vulture. There are some beautiful walks high in the mountains, and skiing facilities in season (not that I ski) Yes it is a beautiful little country. However it is the land of the shoppers after something cheap. We entered Andorra from Spain we left Seu D Urgell in Spain and started queuing to get into Andorra through customs it took us 40 minutes to get through slowly following slow moving cars t1-2 miles to the central commercial Pont de Trobada 1000 parking spaces This is a huge shopping area, selling all kinds of electrical equipment, camping equipment, furniture, clothing, tobacco goods toys alcohol, jewellery food and many other luxury items as well as...

TAKE A TOURA OF ANDORRA

Advantages: Scenery, perfect for a winter holiday
Disadvantages: Longevity is low due to small size of country and lack of alternative activities

...towns only have one main road going through the centre. --- ACCOMODATION --- There is a wide range of accommodation available from apartments, hotels, hostels to campsites and 5star deluxe residences. It was strange to see people camping when it was snowing and their tents were covered in it. Most places usually always have facilities and a view nearby (shops, restaurants etc) --- ACTIVITIES --- Snow activities are the overwhelming reason most people go to Andorra and they are certainly well equipped for it. They have numerous high quality slopes served by excellent facilities which cater for all tastes and abilities. Other snow activities include snowmobiles, trekking (by foot or horse) and climbing. Went I visited, there was a Spanish Bank holiday and I certainly noticed a large increase in the number of visitors, but usually...

Get the most from ski-ing Andorra.

Advantages: cheap everything, great nightlife.
Disadvantages: not such good snow or terrain as the Alps.

...to reach the ski resorts. And with 5 resorts to chose from instead of two, you have suddely got a chamonix-sized area to explore. You can drive East to Soldeu or further on to Pas de la Casa, or head west for Arinsal, Pal and the otherwise inaccessible (and therefore uncrowded) Arcalis. You can pick up hitchhikers and get them to show you the off-piste or tell you about the restaurants in Andorra la Vella. Plus, you can shop at leisure in the capitals duty free boutiques, and eat in peace at its restaurants. Alternatively, you have the freedom to head out of Andorra altogether, and explore a little of France or Spain. It is not a hard drive down to Barcelona, Motorways all the way once you negotiate the pass out of Andorra, and there is plenty of entertainment here whatever the weather. I guess there are also good places to go in France...

Andorra - not just Pas de la Casa

Advantages: cheaper and quieter than the Alps
Disadvantages: long transfer

...hotels although an uphill walk from town. There are lots of budget hotels and self catering in Pas. Andorra la Vella is well worth a trip at night to check the shops out? take your credit card and hammer it !! it's really cheap as it's duty free - last trip there resulted in some good pc speakers, a new bling Shaun White snowboard, a new jacket, 2 pairs of Burton bindings? nuff said ! If you want to chill out and have a day off skiing definitely take your swimming costume and go to Caldea It's brilliant, hot saunas, roman baths, Turkish steam baths etc.. a lovely restaurant to visit afterwards well worth doing. Soothing the aches away ! ready for the next day.. for more ski resort reviews visit www.franceandbeyond.co.uk...

Andorra - High Altitude, Low Cost

Advantages: Cheap, friendly plenty of huge shops
Disadvantages: Traffic pollution hangs over the place like a blanket during the summer

...My mother-in-law lives in the south of France, roughly 90 km North of Andorra, in the foothills of the Pyrenees. You may think how lucky it is that my “mother-in-law” lives so far away (knowing all the mother-in-law jokes), but she is actually very cool and I get on with her like a house on fire. So the only lucky side to the distance, is what an outstandingly beautiful part of the world she lives in and that I get to visit whenever I like (pennies permitting of course!) Andorra is a very small country. It’s more of a principality really. It’s nestled neatly between France and Spain, very high up, in the Pyrenees. In fact it’s so small that you’d be forgiven for thinking it was merely a city when you look down at it from the top of the mountains you have to get over from France to get there...

Andorra, Paradize Lost

Advantages: Nature and sport activities
Disadvantages: crowds and heavy traffic in the town centre (I don't recommend you stay there)

...People who have lived in Andorra for a long time can’t but nostalgically remember the green fields just in the centre of town, mountain tracks, some of those are now unavailable for nature lovers, and the whole of the village atmosphere they once enjoyed. Most of them complain just for the fun of it; the new economy and duty-free shopping made most of them unbearably rich. But what do we care? We visitors are poor and the central shopping streets offer no landscape. You can actually enjoy the sensation of having the forest all over the place, in the centre of town the mountains seem walls covered with trees and that make them similar to what you always imagined to be hanging gardens, hanging forests. But if you do not raise the head it’s all people shopping, cars in traffic jams, shops and shops and shops and us trying to...

Top of the shops.............

Advantages: see above
Disadvantages: see above

...Advantages: Loads of stuff available, good prices Disadvantages: can get busy at christmas time so much so people abandon their shopping I am a huge Asda fan, it's where I do most of my shopping and I know where everything is which makes it easier when dragging 3 kiddies along with you! In my local Asda we have a photo centre, cafe, George, electricals, homewear, toys, bakery, pizzaria, rottisary (chicken place lol), fresh meats counter and all the usual foody aisles plus we have a petrol station, cash machines and bus stop. It's the largest shopping store we have although we do have a Tesco, Lidl, Aldi, Co-Op, Farm Foods and Iceland. I have never had a bad experience with Asda and the stock is usually replenished quite quickly! They have such a huge range that I know I can do my weekly shop and more there. Everything...

shopping heaven

Advantages: great bargains
Disadvantages: queues

...Primark is one of the greatest shops that i find that every time i go in there you can guarantee that i will come out having brought something. When you go into Primark you are guaranteed that you will always find a bargain and at the fraction of the cost of any other shops. Primark has come on in leaps and bounds over the years it stocks a greater range of items that are more in line with the fashions of today and at a great price. A few years ago i would never have even thought to go to Primark, but as they finally put one in my local town centre i always have a look for a bargain. Primark stocks everything from ladies, mens , childrens and homeware. In the ladies section you will find shoes, bags, jewellery, t shirts, lingerie, jeans, trousers, skirts, jumpers, jackets and night wear. In the mens sections you have jeans...

Shopping with Teenagers

Advantages: Sells every item of clothing possible
Disadvantages: Busy at peak times

...Clothes shopping is never an easy task when you have kids in tow. It doesn?t matter if they?re toddlers, young or teenagers, they are still a pain in the proverbial backside when you?re trying to look round the shops and I can guarantee that my teenage son will be moaning and groaning within half an hour when we go shopping. Back in the Summer we decided to brave the busy Ipswich shopping centre, the prime motive to get the kids kitted out for the new school term. After we?d paid the perfunctory visit to the school clothing department in Debenhams we set off down the street to have a wander round the shops. I was absolutely amazed then my son stopped outside Primark and suggested we had a look inside. Teenagers are renowned for wanting designer labels aren?t they? I propelled him inside quick as a flash, before he could see...
