County Town on the Tay
Advantages: pleasant enough, good base, decent restaurants, the river
Disadvantages: nothing special
...Perth is a big town (which likes to think it's a city, and in a colloquial speech is often referred to as a Fair City) on the banks of Tay, approximately 50 miles north of Edinburgh. It has good rail, coach and road connections to Edinburgh, Dundee, Glasgow and towards the North.
Perfect Centre?
Another slogan, this one printed on the name signs as you enter the town is "the perfect centre" and, however much one might wish to question the "perfect" part of it, Perth is indeed a very central place in Scotland, pretty much right on the border between the Highlands and the Lowland/Central part, and between east and West.
Its origins lay far back in time in the Roman times (yes, the Romans did get as far back as here, there are still fort remains all along the Gask ridge nearby), but the modern town was set up in by King David in...

Does its job
Advantages: Erm, it's a major airport
Disadvantages: Read below
...Well, firstly, this is in the wrong catergory. Thre are two airports serving Taipei, the one mentioned above, and the major one named TPE. Make sure you know which one you'll be flying into. TAY is in the middle of the city and has small jets serving Taiwan and other close locations. TPE has the big jets serving the rest of the world.
Right, having got that out of the way, some facts. Firstly, before anyone complains, this willo be a short opinion. This is due mainly to the lack of facilities at the airport.
Arrival: I arrived at TPE from Singapore on Singapore Airlines. I'd paid £1000 for a business class flight from singapore. The economy fare was pretty much the same. If you are planning to fly to TPE, make sure it's a consolidated fare. If you buy any tickets outside of the originating country in SEA (south east asia) you will...

Scotland, as seen through the eyes of the 'Big Yin'
Advantages: A great guide to Scotland, beautiful scenery.
Disadvantages: Stand up ahow not included on DVD edition
...and the firing of the one o'clock cannon, St Giles Cathedral and the underground street Mary King's Close. He relays the history of the places he visits whilst also talking of his own thoughts and experiences.
He spends some time at the impressive Forth Bridge and Forth Road Bridge and visits Stirling taking in the historic and atmospheric Bannockburn.
Billy crosses the Tay Bridge whilst in Dundee and gives a reading of William McGonagall's poem, The Tay Bridge Disaster. The day of filming though, sees a sudden blizzard descend upon Dundee and watching Billy trying to walk in the swirling snow and wind whilst reciting the poem is quite something!
Also featured is the highlands and there is some breathtaking scenery on show as Billy visits Inverness, Caithness, Culloden, Shetland and a very windy Wick amongst others, as well as visiting the standing...

Administering Groupwise
Advantages: goes deep into the heart of the system
Disadvantages: you need some knowledge going in
...I am a GroupWise Administrator for a large system and needed a book to go deeper into the system.
In "Administering GroupWise" I found a book that explains in terms I could understand how it all fits together and gives a number of walkthroughs for common tasks.
The book is written by Howard Tayler, Tay Kratzer & Ross Phillips and is pubished by McGraw-hill.
The sections cover installation, settings and troubleshooting a system and give suggestions for how you should design and implement your system from scratch.
it gives a good overview of message flow so you can trace messages through the system to track any problems you encounter. Also it explains the logs (Thanks god as they needed explaining).
I think this is the best book available at present on Groupwise and recoomend it greatly. It has alraedy become a first port...

STONED AGAIN
Advantages: LUVVERLY
Disadvantages: NONE
...a cover for a cess-pit. No-one knows for sure whether this is true or not, but it's a comforting thought that, for 300 years, the monarchs of England, then Britain, were crowned while sitting on a toilet seat!
The stone was returned in 1996 and now sits in Edinburgh Castle.
The Inveralmond Brewery, founded in 1997, is a family concern and is situated just outside the Fair City of Perth, Scotland. This is a beautiful part of the country which is more famous for whisky than beer, in fact Inveralmond is the only brewery in the area - the last one having closed sometime in the 1960's.
Perth sits astride the Silvery Tay, and the pure water which originates high in the Grampian Highlands is vital to the brewery's beer. This is also one of the reasons for the many distilleries in the area but fear not, there's very little danger of demand...

Strong nerves a must!
Advantages: Hours of endless fun
Disadvantages: can get on your nerves after a while
...The FURBY interactive plush toy was first introduced in 1998.
The original FURBY had 24 names, three different pitches of voice, six fur patterns and four eye colors (blue, green, brown, grey).
The official language of FURBY was Furbish. Remember what it meant when it said ah-may koh koh? Or mee mee a-tay? How about noo-loo and dah doo-ay wah? (see below for definitions)
One FURBY toy could influence another - one could make another sneeze, or start giggling and make all the FURBY toys around it giggle too.
Furbies are capable of over 300 different unique combinations of eye, ear, and mouth movements.
FURBY BABIES had 25% more vocabulary and 233% more phrases than the original FURBY toys.
FURBY often wanted you to ah-may koh koh (pet me more). It wasn?t very noo-loo (happy) when it was mee mee a-tay (very hungry). But...

First King of Shamara

Step Back In Time
Advantages: Fascinating history lesson
Disadvantages: not a place to visit on a wet day
...Crannogs are artificial man made islands which were used as dwelling houses and were common in Scotland and Ireland between the Neolithic ages 5000 years ago and the seventeenth century. The crannog at the Scottish Crannog Centre on the beautiful Loch Tay is a raised structure on stilts set into the beds of the loch with a circular wooden platform with a thatched roof set above the water. Crannogs were a common sight along the shores of Loch Tay with many sites identified and the crannog at the centre has been built based on archaeological finds at the Oakbank crannog which stood near to Fearnan village over 2500 years ago. The centre has been built as far as possible using ancient tools and techniques which both furthers historical knowledge and is fascinating for the visitor.
There are no real answers as to why the Iron age people...
