TT Coupe Quattro 225 friend or foe??
Review of Audi TT Coupé Quattro by
170driver
Advantages: Fast, fun, solid build, reliable engine, and very safe
Disadvantages: Not very pratical, more of a posers car then a serious sports car
...a Volkswagen Bora TDI 150 (see review) so as you can imagine I am no stranger to pure mid range torque. I found the TT effortless to drive around despite needing a slight push to get the torque but still forgiving. The Quattro system is responsive and creates amazing traction sometimes a little too good, it helps cornering and the ESP works very well with it. The steering is hard and a lot of torque steer is produced but there is still plenty of handling control, minimal roll and plenty of stability. Well let's face it the TT is practically a go-kart so the handling is second to none although not the best I have experienced, read my review about the ST170. Unlike the rev hungry ST170 however the sheer power of the 1.8T is potent and the gas charged turbo sounds glorious as you rake through the fast although slightly notchy gearbox. I would say...

Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI SE
Review of Audi A3 Sportback 2.0 TDI SE by
matt_fantastic
Advantages: A 5-door premium "mini-estate"
Disadvantages: Cost. It's really just a Golf, buy you pay for the badge...
......)
Four petrol engines are also available for the Sportback. There are entry-level "basic" and direct-injection (FSI) 1.6's, a 2.0 FSI, a turbocharged 2.0, and a quick 3.2 V6. There's one other turbodiesel - a 103bhp 1.9-litre. If you need 4x4 (does anyone apart fron farmers REALLY need 4x4 ?), there's the "quattro" option also.
Top speed for my 2.0 TDI is a claimed 128 mph, and acceleration from 0-100 km/h is listed at 10 seconds. Probably more relevant than the "off from the lights" speed is the (claimed) 30-50mph time in third gear of 3.8sec, and 50-70mph in fifth gear time of 7.5sec. I can't challenge these numbers, but it certainly feels pretty quick (although clearly not as quick as my CLK) and the diesel engine has a lot of pull, especially in 2nd and 3rd gear, although first gear seems to zoom to high rev's quickly. Even in 5th...

When I get me Audi out on the road
Review of Audi A6 1.9 TDI by
dave27
Advantages: Great features
Disadvantages: Price
...Now please don't quote me on this, but I just nipped over to the Audi web site -- http://www.audi.co.uk/newcars/range.jsp?section=/models/a6saloon/a6saloon -- to do a quick bit of research for this review and it looks pretty definite to me that they are no longer doing a 1.9 TDI version of the Audi A6 saloon. They are doing a 2.4 SE manual, a 2.4 SE multitronic, a 3.2 FSI SE manual, a 3.2 FSI quattro SE manual, a 3.2 FSI quattro SE tiptonic, a 4.2 quattro SE tiptronic, a 2.0 TDI SE manual and a 3.0 TDI quattro SE tiptronic, but look, there ain't a 1.9 SE TDI anymore. Well, ever willing to go against the grain dave27 changed his company car pretty damn recent and went for the old version of the Audi before these new fangled mothers found their way onto our streets, and I certainly have got a 1.9 SE TDI to call my very own. The others...

The Car with the longest name in the World
Review of Audi A6 Avant 2.5 TDI by
tagheur
Advantages: pace space face
Disadvantages: uh nope, can't think of any
...the 150bhp V6 to VW, it already had a more powerful variant up its sleeve, the 180bhp unit which is only available in the A6 Quattro. In order to get the extra 30bhp Audi had to up the turbo boost pressure and fit stronger con-rods and pistons to the motor. However at 180bhp it is kicking out almost exactly the same from its 2.5 litres as the BMW is from 3 litres and the Merc from 3.2. Cool huh?
The car I ended up buying was my local Audi main dealer's 3-month-old demonstrator. The car is loaded to the gills with extras and they did me a stonking deal. Officially it is an Audi A6 Avant Quattro SE Sport 2.5 Tdi, which must be the longest moniker ever given to a car. New, on the road, the car would have been put up at about £33500 but they let me have it (with 4500 miles on the clock) for £28K. Now that's a good deal in my book. However...

Premium Quality Car Offering Good Value for Money
Review of Audi A3 1.9 TDI SE by
richardwest1
Advantages: Economy, Build Quality, Residual Value, Desirability...
Disadvantages: Less performance than others at this price
...This review is based on my experiences of running this car over 10 days and 800 miles as a courtesy car.
The Audi A3 is a premium small family car and priced at the top of this particular segment. The car I used was the limited special edition version available on the road at a discounted price of just over £16,000. My initial reaction to being given the cheapest Audi in the range was one of disappointment as my own car is a well specified A4 with quattro and I also prefer the response of petrol engines. I was very pleasantly surprised by the A3 though.
As expected the interior build quality is superb and equal to that of more expensive models in the Audi range. Where the savings have been made are in the basic specification: Manual air-con, standard cloth seats, no front fog lights and single CD player etc. There is a good amount...

New Leon TDI FR hot hatchs just got better,
Review of Seat Leon 2.0 TDI FR by
170driver
Advantages: Quick car, excellent handling, potential economy, cleverly designed, beautiful exterior
Disadvantages: Overuse of plastic in cabin wears quick, no room in glovebox, a few rattles
...Test Model: Seat Leon 2.0 TDI FR
Reg: DV06 ***
Mileage: 131
Obtained MPG: 36.6
Official 0-62 mph: 8.2 secs
Official Maximum Speed: 139mph
Ever since the concept models of the New Leon were published I have been looking forward to seeing it on the road. But of course as soon as production comes in, the concept residuals are calmed down for the more conservative models. Don't get me wrong the New Leon is a very modern and stylish car, certainly one of the best looking cars on the road, with bullet shaped front and sweeping steep lines from the headlights and along the bodywork giving a coupe look, cleverly designed windscreen wipers hidden in the A-pillars, and a rear spoiler type lip built into the top of the tailgate. But I was still swayed towards VW or Ford in terms of more conservative looks and Kudos. Then the Leon FR...

Graco Quattro Deluxe Review
Review of Graco Quattro Tour Travel System by
rose-angel
Advantages: complete pram package
Disadvantages: heavy, bulky
...The dreaded choice of which pram to buy and which one is best was mind boggling with all that is available today, after much thought I decided to buy the Graco Quattro because of the different functions suitable for different age ranges and the addition of the carry cot, as I walk alot I thought this would be more comfortable for my baby.
The things I like about this pram are its suitability from birth, it seems to be very comfy for the baby, the main pram as head support , the large shopping basket, the pram bar has space for a bottle/beaker good for when baby is older so its easy for them to help themselves, the extra storage by the handle, brill for mobile, keys, dummies etc, nice colours available, true lie flat pram, 4 seat positions, large hood, handy for the sunny weather, it looks good.
My dislikes are its heavy, quite...

Long Term Usage
Review of Audi A4 Avant 2.5 TDI by
harryson
Advantages: Performance, traction, driving position
Disadvantages: dealer service
...I purchased one of the first 2.5TDi Quattro A4's following their release onto the British market in Aug 98. I wanted to combine the fantastic roadholding qualities of the quattro system with a more economical package than the petrol 2.8 turbo.
From collection I was very impressed with the car. The engine sounds good for a start and goes like a dream with an apparently unending delivery of power. The standard 6 speed gearbox is not the smoothest but with a definate touch it does deliver. The car handles very well with the standard sports suspension occasionally making the car a bit rough on Britain's poor roads but being absolutely ideal on the German autobahns.
Unfortunately I cannot have a good word to say about either the Audi dealer who supplied the car (over 6 months passed before I received all the extras I'd paid for) nor...

Diesel, Slow and noisy. Not a TDI
Review of VW Golf IV 1.9 SE TDI by
rayliu
Advantages: Economical, Great Build Quality, Nippy, Quiet for a Diesel, Looks, Great Residues
Disadvantages: Rear Legroom, Standard Suspension Setup, Headlight beam
...Update 30/01/02
(Start)
Had this car for exactly a year now! Some other information!
Winter - In the winter (i.e. now) the mileage returned from the diesel is slightly lower than in the summer. Thats because the diesel is cold and the engine needs to use more power to heat it up, thus less miles to the gallon and a noisier start up in winter! Arrr! Now you know!
(End)
Having owned my Golf TDI 90bhp for almost a year now, I thought it would be useful to write a review so that other potential buyers both new and secondhand alike could share some of my experiences.
At the beginning of 2001, I decided that my old car, a M reg Rover 416i, had had its day and I was on the look out for a small hatchback that would be economical, as I am quite a high mileage driver.
The Mk4 Golf is in the small hatch league, the same as its arch...

Discovery 200tdi original and best
Review of Land Rover Discovery 200TDi by
Azer
Advantages: Space, Relative Economy and Reliable Engines
Disadvantages: Still pricey to tax and run compared to most cars
...I purchased my Discovery 200tdi around 16 mths ago and it never let me down. The vehicle I located was a bit unusual in that it had never towed or seen hard work and had only had 1 owner its entire life.
The service file included 20k worth or receipts for work actioned over the car's life and it is fair to say that the first owner spared no expense whatsoever. It had a better history than most of the 300tdi's sitting around and I decided to buy it.
After fitting some modern wheel arches and side mouldings the car did not look out of place against a disco 7 years younger and the paintwork positively gleamed.
It was fantastic for taking my dogs to training and collecting friends and family. The driving position is high and the build solid. You really feel that it would take a huge impact and maintain composure. The original...
