TDK have managed to deliver a great package here both with hardware and the software supplied. Iomega CD-RW

Advantages: Can burn music, pictures and other data
Disadvantages: Quite Slow

...This Iomega Rewriter is a good little piece of machinery, but it does takes it time when burning. Its supposed to take a few minutes to burn a music disc, although it took 20 minutes for an average length CD. ..:Installation:.. Installing the product will take the best part of 45minutes, it comes up with junk about not being compatatible with you operating system when it clearly is. Registering the product can be annoying as well because it asks for information you will not want to give (phone number, address etc.) ..: Burning CD's :.. Burning can take up to and around 20 mins for about 20 3 minute tracks. Selecting what you want put on the CD is a confusing process. As you have to individual copy and paste each song rather than clicking on it and getting it on the cd straight away. Its quite good of informing you of its status...

CD-OK

Advantages: Store yor data, free your hard drive
Disadvantages: come on a spindle and have no cases

...I recently managed to fill up my 80GB Hard drive with all sorts of rubbish and needed some CD's to store my information on. Usually I would buy them from Tesco's, but as I was In a hurry I popped into my local computer retailer (Northbridge Computers in Lowestoft) to see what he had available. All he had on this occassion was TDK CD-R80 discs. There was single CD's in cases, boxs of ten in cases and spindles of twenty-five and one hundred. I plummeted for the spindle of twenty-five as I wasn't rich enough at the time to buy the big fat one hundred spindle. ***Product*** The disc's themselves are light blue with a silver swirl on it. TDK CD-R80 is clearly stamped on it. There is plenty of room to write on them and they can store up to 700MB of data or 80 minutes recording time. Hunka, Hunka, Burning Love

Advantages: Fast, burnproof, easy to install, comes with Nero software
Disadvantages: Relatively expensive

The only component left over from my old machine has been replaced, and has gone to component heaven (not really, it's actually in the wanted ads, but hey I wanted to wax lyrical), to be replaced by this veritable speed demon. My old cd-writer was a 24 x 2 x 2, Freecom badged Philips drive that took over 36 minutes to burn a full cd, so I decided it was time to upgrade and after much wandering around PC World (I know, I know I'm sorry but they were offering nine months interest free if you spent £200) I chose the TDK Cyclone 12 x 10 x 32 Burnproof Internal IDE drive. I paid (or will be) £179 for the retail pack which comes with the drive (obviously), Nero Burning Rom software, TDK mix master software, cables, marker pen, one cdr and one cdrw. Advantages: Last a long time
Disadvantages: Only 4 Colours

Each one has written in silver TDK CD-R PEN with the TDK logo clearly visible. On the end of each pen is a different coloured screw in cap to help identify the pen that you require. As well as this each pen has a different coloured lid and have a clip on them so that you can clip them to the inside of your jacket or shirt pocket. Advantages: Cheap and comparable to the more expensive Plextor
Disadvantages: Easy CD is maybe not as good as WinOnCD and support is vague

Some Extra Cheap Storage Space On CD-RW's

Freecom Classic Trouble Free DVD Burning

Advantages: Hard Working and reliable. Can be moved from PC to PC

...I've owned my external Freecom CD RW for some time now, and it has given me excellent service, even though I have "hammered" it, burning DVD after DVD of years of stockpiled home video footage. Time after time, I have had great results with just one unsuccessful burn, but that was a faulty disk -which happens sometimes. When I first went in search of a DVD Re-writer, I was very tempted by getting an internal one to save desk-space and they were cheaper. ...For my money, TDK have a long and respectable tradition in the production of blank media. In the 80's I'd tape the top 40 rundown on Radio One with crazy old Bruno Brookes using one of their many blank audio tape products. Around the same time I'd tape my favourite programmes (Gary Shandling, The Tube and Grange Hill) using a TDK blank video cassette. Compatibility hell.

Advantages: Good drive, reliable, quick
Disadvantages: Hard to get software to work/recognise it

...When I recently took my father in law to PC World to buy him a CD Writer for his computer, I expected to send him on his merry way within minutes of my return home.
