End of Cassttes, TDK Mini DV Tapes, Superb
Review of TDK DVM 60ME Mini DV 60 min by
qasem121
Advantages: Record over and over again, high quality, Compact
Disadvantages: 2 play in video you need a dv casstee convertor
...Mini DV tapes are great... And the best thing is you can record over them as many times as you like over and over again and you still get a high quality picture.
Well what about my experience:
Having brought a DV Camcorder I wanted to buy DV Tapes..
So rather than just buying any DV Tape I started to do my research like I normally do when I buy any of my products.
I searched online (Googling IT) for DV Tapes that where of a high quality and which had a perfect playback quality.
While searching over the net I came across a few DV Tape makes such as Fuji, DVC, Sony, Maxell & TDK
Having read reviews about the products like I normally do, I decided to go down to my local Argos store and buy TDK DVM-60 MiniDV Tapes for £7.99. I was expecting to buy just 1 for that price but I got 2 for that price. What a bargin!
Now to my...

Quality branded DVD-R's from TDK
Review of TDK DVD-R 4.7 GB 16x by
miketurner
Advantages: Reputable and reliable
Disadvantages: Bad colour
...I paid about £20 from Adsa for the pack of 100 TDK DVD-R's (4.7Gb, 16 x speed), which I consider to be great value for a reliable, reputable make such as TDK.
I have used about half of the discs so far, mainly for films but also for backing up data, photos etc, from the PC. I have not encountered a single faulty disc, as of yet.
They seem very reliable, and have a write speed of upto 16 x, although I have not been able to test this as my DVD writer only writes at a maximum 4 x.
My only grumble with the discs is the colour. They are printed a metallic blue colour, with a pattern and the TDK logo on. While this is very nice to look at, it isn't very good for writing on with a black marker. Space (to write on the disc, not capacity) is limited because of this....

TDK CD-R Marker Pen
Review of TDK CD-R Marker Pen - CD labelling pen by
Kingkarliii
Advantages: Last a long time
Disadvantages: Only 4 Colours
...in the front of the packet or case to hold the pens securely in place
***The Pens***
As I have already mentioned there are four pens in a packet, Red, Green, Blue and Black. Each one has written in silver TDK CD-R PEN with the TDK logo clearly visible. On the end of each pen is a different coloured screw in cap to help identify the pen that you require. As well as this each pen has a different coloured lid and have a clip on them so that you can clip them to the inside of your jacket or shirt pocket. The nibs of these pens are really fine making it easy to write and recognise what you have written and there is no smudging at all
***Smell***
Like most permanent markers these pens give of toxic fumes that would make you high if you were to sit there and sniff them or use them in a small unaired room.
***Price***
Unfortunately I did...

A mixed bag when compared with dv4000
Review of Mustek DV 5000 by
SuperJuan
Advantages: Price, Features, AA Baterries
Disadvantages: Picture quality is not accurate to what you see on preview screen
...I have owned both the Mustek DV-5000 and it's predecessor the Mustek DV-4000. The main difference in the 2 is that the dv5000 can take AA batteries, so you can make sure you have battery wherever you are, and also the dv5000 has a flash.
When i read about the dv5000 coming out i couldn;t wait to try it, I got it about 1 week after release for £109, as it seemed to have all the features the dv4000 was missing.
After replacing my broken dv4000 (the story is in my dv4000 review) with the dv5000: here is my take on the dv5000:
Pros:
AA Batteries - So you never run out
Flash - great for night time
Higher Megapixel - Better Quality Pictures
Mp3 playback is good through the external speaker
Cons:
The image you see on the preview window, while lining up a shot is NOT what the camera actually takes. With the dv5000...

Pioneer DV525 or DV535
Review of Pioneer DV-525 by
groomoid
Advantages: Cheap, good picture and sound, multi region(if chipped),Plays all CD's
Disadvantages: None for me
...I couldnt find a place to write about the Pioneer DV-535, but as the only difference between the two models is that the DV-535 is black and the DV-525 is silver & doesn't have an optical out. This seemed as good a place as any.
I have read some reviews on this site and others, and like most people did a fair bit of research on forums etc. This is a very good DVD player for the money. I brought a multi region one from richer sounds for £207 including 3 years warranty. It is reasonably straight forward to set up and plays cd's (both shop bought and those i have ripped on the computer). The remote is easy to understand and the whole thing is a cinch to set up.
The player is automatic in detecting most region 1 DVD's, but if it doesn't then it can be remote hacked as well
I have heard a lot of people talk about the noisy DVD drawer when...

HP DV6000 - Great value for money!
Review of HP Pavilion dv6000t by
oxonian00
Advantages: Sleek, solid performance all-round.
Disadvantages: Slightly short battery life.
...I really like this laptop and would recommend it to anyone looking for a budget notebook to give them access to the Internet, decent games and a workstation. I picked up the DV6000 in the UK for around the 400-pound mark and it has served me well as a desktop replacement while working abroad.
It looks good and feels good with a tactile silky texture, has a 15.4 inch high-resolution screen that is easy on the eyes and has decent in-built speakers which I found fine for gaming.
It has good specs for a notebook, which can handle even fairly demanding modern games (it has an Nvidia GeForce Go 7500). By way of example, I played Neverwinter Nights 2 on the DV6000; whilst I did have to turn most of the graphic settings right down, the game ran fine and was fully playable (and Neverwinter Nights 2 is known as a fairly demanding game...

Pioneer DV-350
Review of Pioneer DV-350 S by
Prof1
Advantages: Slim design, excellent picture, full remote
Disadvantages: None
...I bought the Pioneer DV-350 as a birthday present to myself in December 2002, and have not been disappointed. The slim silver design is uncluttered and gives it a modern look that is unlikely to date quickly.
I paid about £110 at Richer Sounds, Birmingham. I got a decent SCART lead at the same time. As far as I know, this exact model is no longer produced but second hand ones are available for less than £60. There may well be new ones lying around, so it’s worth looking.
With the continued tumbling fall of DVD players and cheaper DVD Recorders, those looking for their first player could be inundated with choices but I hope you feel you can read on.
Other reviews state that the player is multi-regional. I’m sure this is the case, but I bought mine on the understanding that it was only Region 2. In other words, would only play...

iMac Dv - a personal experience
Review of Apple iMac DV Indigo - PPC G3 400 MHz - 15" CRT by
guiam888
Advantages: some say it's so easy to use
Disadvantages: supposedly out of the box and connected...
...I've been a PC user all my life, but back in 1999 a friend bought an iMac DV and asked me to go over to his place to configure internet access for him.
So I did and here is my experience, even if limited to 2 sessions working on Mac OS8.6
Well, I did my bit. It took us a while to understand that to create an internet access you must set up a script for remote access, or he won't be able to connect if the server on the other end is WinNT. We experience problems with the line dropping every 40 seconds after connection till we configured the script and after that the connection was satisfactory.
For protocols PPP, TCP/IP, DNS, it works like on a normal PC.
I don't like the greyish, ghostly Mac interface particularly, and I feel it lacks depth. That is, while in Windows I am used to be able to customize the system through a huge...

Mustek DV 3032-tiny camera, not so tiny price
Review of Mustek DV 3032 by
gena_marie
Advantages: small, lightweight, easy to use, decent resolution
Disadvantages: TOO small, too expensive, not true "video" camera
...I ended up with this camera through a really poor judgement call on the part of the administrators at StormPay auctions. If you ever get the chance to do business with them, pass on that. Stick with Ebay or somewhere more reliable. Anyway, this is supposed to be a digital video camera, hence the DV in the name. But it only records about five minutes with the built-in memory card. (You can buy other memory cards, but I like things that are perfect without having to spend a bunch more money.) To me, that isn't really a video. Our family happenings that are videoed typically last anywhere between an hour and three, so that part of the camera is not too impressive. You can buy optional memory cards for more memory, though. The internal card stores 32 MB, so that's pretty good for photos, just not the best for video.
I paid $98...

HP DV6599 Special Edition - Good All Rounder
Review of HP Pavilion Media Center dv6599ea Special Edition Entertainment - Core 2 Duo T7300 2 GHz - 15.4" TFT by
marcus997
Advantages: Features, size and design
Disadvantages: Not good enough for gaming
...I bought this laptop in September 2007 after much research into what laptop was best for me. As a fan of HP products, I chose from the DV6500 range available at the time. This laptop had every spec I required for both using as a station for university assignments, as well as home use for music, film and gaming.
Firstly, the design is eye-catching. I was bored of looking at the generic black or grey and thought the white anti-scratch surface was ideal. The laptop is also quite light and the absense of a locking clip meant there was less to damage - simplicity is key I think.
The laptop is full of features. As well as the bright screen and touch-sensitive controls for music and dvd, there is more than adequate connectivity and the laptop also came with a special edition mouse and headset - a nice extra touch that made me feel I got...
