...Microsoft and their proprietary products are poor performance, and too expensive. This adapter detects the same network my pc adapter detects but only 1 bar of signal. My pc adapter has 5 bars on the network. The xbox adapter must not have an omni antenna and the gain is probably 1dbi.I tried to opened this crap and put a higher gain antenna but the connector is a sub micro connector specially made for microsoft to screw us.I still could have rigged a better antenna, but i accidentally lost an ic chip trying to pry this thing apart, now there goes 70 bucks, never again.
Fortunately i discovered linksys sells a universal game adapter (part number WGA54G),the adpater is also pc compatible, why isnt the xbox adapter pc compatible?Anyway, the linksys has an omni antenna and yes its removable to get a better omni. The signal is 5 to 15 times...
Advantages: makes connecting to live wireless Disadvantages: very high price
...i bought this for £50 second hand, and i found it very easy to use and it connected to my modem in minutes, but i know not everyone connects it as easy as i did, infact i couldnt connect it to my old router when i first got an xbox 360, so then i went for the ethernet cable method which is ideal if the router is in the same room as the xbox 360 because its much cheaper, gauranteed to work and normally makes connection better, but in my case i had a 30m ethernet cable running down my stairs which is not ideal! therefore when i bought my xbox 360 back i wanted to get it sorted with the networkadapter.
THINGS I LIKE ABOUT THE ADAPTER:
its a easy method of connecting up to xbox live if it will connect to the router
its small and as a nice slot at the back of the xbox 360
theres a light which is green if its working and red if its...
Advantages: Easy to install, Works well, reliable Disadvantages: Expensive
...If you enjoy playing online on your xbox 360 and your router is not easily accessible with wires then you should seriously consder getting yourself a wireless adapter.
The Adapter cost around £50-£60 which I think is ridiculously over priced for what is simply a wireless adapter which generally cost aroud £10, but seeing as it is the only option for wireless gaming on the Xbox 360 then if you really want wireless it is your only option.
The adapter was very easy to set up. You simply click it into place at the back of the Xbox 360 and plug the usb plug into the port, and adjust the aerial to face upwards for maximum range. Once you have the adapter in place and plugged in, when you turn on your xbox you will be greeted with a message asking you if you want to configure your wireless device to a network. Clicking 'yes' will bring...
Advantages: Does exactly what is required of it Disadvantages: too expensive
...The xbox 360 wireless adapter is essentially, exactly what it says on the tine, it is only required as a neccesity to get onto xbox live in a place usin a wireless network, microsfot have seized on this opportunity to charge over the odds for a small piece of plastic , retailing in the region of £60 , especially when you consider the nintendo Wii has a wireless adapter built in. As a product, the adapter is easy to install, clipping onto the back of the console, reliable and discreet, offering flawless online gameplay as if it were connected via ethernet cable. The only downside to this is the price and i for one feel it should be included in the console package to fully compete with other consoles...
Advantages: Works quite well most the time Disadvantages: very expensive
...i got one of these because i didn't want wires everywhere in our house. when i first put it in it wouldn'tt connect up to my wireless router(linksys). i called up a help line and they said that they had no idea how to fix it so i ended up having to buy a new one (netgear). with this it works well most of them time but if it doesn't always work. i think that may be down to the router but it may be the adapter. anyway it works most the time pretty well. i think it is ridiculously over priced thought. When i got it it was £60. but i needed it because i didn't want a load of wires around the house. i thnk they are fairly good and work most of the time but are over priced....
Advantages: Great Value, Small Practical Size, Portable, Large Connection Range Disadvantages: Loses connection sometimes, Fairly expensive, which isn't contradicting the Great Value advantage
...I, like nearly everyone with an Xbox 360 wanting Xbox Live, spent a fairly long time looking for a cheaper option the, lets admit it, very expensive Wireless NetworkingAdapter. With prices in England ranging from £40-£60 and from what I've heard it's $100 in USA it's a hefty price for something so small and seemingly simple, and it is. It's as simple as that. However, except from the ethernet option, the Microsoft Xbox 360 Wireless NetworkingAdapterNetworkAdapter is the only thing you can use to get superb, and let me emphasize 'SUPERB' service from Microsoft. I made the stupid decision to buy a alternative to the adapter, which just didnt work. So, in my opinion, this is the only piece of equipment that is best for getting Xbox Live, so please don't waste money on something that has a 90% chance of working, because the useless thing...
Advantages: No need for wires. Reliable Disadvantages: Over inflated cost.
...Introduction
It is hard to believe that in this day and age where wifi internet connections are the norm, that the Xbox 360 console, does not ship with a built in wireless networkadapter. The Playstation 3 has this built in and even the Wii manages it too, so why have Microsoft decided to omit it from the Xbox? In my opinion, the answer is simple, it is hard work to bridge a connection from your laptop and the majority of Xbox users will not have their console in close proximity to their router. Therefore, the only other alternative is to spend £60 and buy the Microsoft Wireless networkadapter. Microsoft have been cute here, there are plenty of wireless USB wifi internet dongles on the market, all retailing for considerably less than the £60 Microsoft are asking, however, none of these will work with the Xbox, meaning...
Advantages: Wireless connectivity to Xbox live, Simply to setup Disadvantages: Ridiculously expensive, Doesn't come in black to match my Xbox 360 Elite
...providing you have a laptop with wireless connectivity, but this means having the laptop on and joined to the Xbox 360 with a cable - again not overly practical. On then to what seems like the easiest, tidiest solution to wireless gaming - the Microsoft Xbox 360 wireless networkingadapter. This little piece of wizardry wrapped up in white plastic form makes connecting your console to the internet a relatively pain free and tidy solution.
Setup
Setting up the wireless adapter is simplicity itself; it clips onto the back of your Xbox 360 or Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive and plugs into one of the available USB ports. Then you need to pop to the System Settings section on your Xbox 360 dashboard. There you will see a network Settings tab which will take you to a page where you can configure the adapter to work with your network. This setup process...
Advantages: Cheap, connects to routers of all types I have tried Disadvantages: Breaks easily, driver problems in Vista
...'belkin driver' in google, the first link that comes up is the official Belkin driver download site. It immediately takes you to a 3 step guide to installing the correct driver. First you have to read the FFC ID, which is in minuscule writing on the back of the device. Although, the website shows you exactly where to look, it is still hard to physically read the font. Once you have found out which version to pick, the driver is downloaded and finally installed.
Connectivity
I find that the Belkin adapters don't have brilliant connectivity, but are quite able to pick up adequate signaI in the house. I have connected with a Belkin Wireless G USB adapter to a Belkin router, as well as a US robotics router and BT home hub, it picks up many networks local to the computer. The connectivity decreases as you get further away from the router...
Advantages: no trailing/extra wires, easy to install, Disadvantages: cost
