Advantages: Size, Easy to Use, Quick, Simple Disadvantages: Could be a little bigger in capacity
...This small externalharddrive is very similar to some of the portable flash/pen drives that are going around at the moment. When I bought it a couple of years ago I was very impressed with what it could do making it easy to take files back and forth no matter where I went on a day to day basis. At the moment this externalharddrive is selling for an average of £30 to £35 which isn't too bad.
Power
**********
Like some of the USB flash drives that going around at the moment this externalharddrive can draw power directly from the USB that is been used to transfer data back and forth which means there is no need for any additional power cables etc that you would expect with some devices.

The beauty about this externalharddrive is that is starts off as a square/rectangular shaped device which is able to...
Advantages: Fast transfer speed, protection from knocks and drops Disadvantages: Fairly high price
...The LaCie Rugged All-Terrain External 250 hard-drive is a portable storage device which will allow you to store 250gb of multimedia files such as pictures, music and video. You will obviously also be able to hold documents and other files as well (e.g. software installations).
Measuring at 9 cm wide, 14.5 cm long, 2.5 cm in height and weighing just 250 grams, making the LaCie externalhard-drive very light as well as portable. The hard-drive is portable in the way that it is very light, the only thing you have to take into account is that you will require a medium to large sized pocket or any form of bag in order to carry the device. You could always opt to just carrying it around in your hand, which is not very practical in everyday life.
All external and internal hard-drives state a certain amount of memory capacity, but in fact...
Advantages: Easy to use even for beginners. Disadvantages: None that I have found.
...Having experienced one or two fatal computer crashes in the past and lost every single file on my harddrive and on the first occasion without a back-up, I have been very careful about backing up my files to DVD disks since, but it was quite a slow and laborious task waiting for those disks to burn, and then on some occasions I would get that dreaded message, "back-up failed!" appear on the screen and have to start all over again!
Watching the QVC shopping channel one Sunday morning, I noticed that they were demonstrating the ClickFree externalharddrive, and all you had to do was to plug it in to your USB port and wait. It would search and back-up every file on your harddrive without you having to click or do anything, and then once it had done its job, all you had to do was simply unplug it and put it away. This was something that...
Advantages: Great invention, reasonable price, large capacity Disadvantages: Bulky, noisy
...I store a lot of photos, music and documents on my laptop and was finding I was needing to delete documents or put things on cds to enable me to save more data on my laptop. This was getting to be a pain, so I took a trip to PC World to see what options there were. I spoke to an advisor and on special offer was this Seagate ExternalHarddrive, instead of the RRP of £120 I got this harddrive for £70. I thought it would be really useful and this has proved true. The harddrive also came with a 1 year guarenteed warranty.
The harddrive is grey and black and looks quite bulky, especially when plugged into a laptop. It has a USB cable which connects into the USB port in your computer or laptop and a cable which is plugged into the mains. When the harddrive is on, a small green light is displayed on the top. The harddrive is...
Advantages: Fast, high capacity storage. Well built, looks good. 2 year warranty, No fan. Disadvantages: No fan.
...I've just rebuilt a couple of PCs and realised my external USB harddrive was no longer big enough to use to back them both up. Accordingly, I started looking around for a bigger drive. I was going to buy a bare drive and stick it in a spare external case but as I wandered in to PC World, I saw this little beauty on sale with a nice reduction in price to a mere £85 or so.
I've previously seen 'bargains' in PC World only to find everyone else had also dropped their prices and PC World were still expensive so I checked online and found that this time <shock/horror!> they were actually genuinely cheap. Back to PC World it was then...
Only to find the formally huge pile of drives had shrunk whilst I'd popped home so I grabbed one quickly, paid (as you do) and took it home.
I have to admit up front I've never touched anything from...
Advantages: Fast, super-stylish and near-silent. Disadvantages: Difficult to detect activity.
...I have owned this drive for a few months and have found it to be excellent. But I disagree with a previous review in several areas.
This is the most stylish externalharddrive I have seen. It is also one of the cheapest per GB, currently available for just £93 at Misco.co.uk, for example.
It works with Macs and PCs and is almost silent. It comes with a USB cable and a driver CD for old Windows operating systems. The external design is superb minimalism and looks like it could have been designed by Apple themselves. The case is all aluminium except the front and back. The front face is black except for the capacity indicator of ?500GB? which lights up in blue and flickers during activity. The rear has the power and USB ports and a small power switch.
The 500GB box value translates to 465GB under Windows due to the differing ways...
Advantages: Very Fast, Efficient, Stylish, Easy Installation Disadvantages: Only a minor point the 1m usb cable
...I needed a fast and efficient externalharddrive for doing full and incremental backups of my networked computer systems. I did a bit of research first before deciding on this Iomega product. It costs £58.95 from ebuyer with £10 (£48.95)off for using google checkout and at only 18p per GB you cant get much better than that at the moment. The Iomega drive comes in a very classy and stylish silver/aluminium casing which you can mount on the included stand or lay flat on your computer desk. Included in the box is a usb cable and a power adaptor and an instruction manual. It is usb 2.0 compatible which means that it has a raw data transfer rate of 480Mbps.It is also backward compatible with usb 1.1 which has a maximum transfer rate of 12Mbits/second. Spindle speed of this drive is 7500rpm.Only negative point is the usb cable could be a bit...
Advantages: 250GB capacity, 2 firewire port, 1 usb ports Disadvantages: alittle bit expensive
...Hello again and welcome to Chan's new toys!
Just had a box delieverd to my home 2 weeks ago which i hadn't ordered, someone at work had given me new hardware to help with a task I've got to do. How well people know me, give me new harware to play with and i'll do any work they want!
Anyway, opening up my jiffy bag I find a box with Media Centre writen in big black letters. MY first thought is what on earth is a media centre??? The box seemed a bit small for a TV and DVD player, let alone surround sound, so i decided that putting on my glasses so i could focus on the box was probably a good idea. It turns out a media centre is a rather large USB and firewire harddrive, with a few extras thrown in to make it look special.
What you get is a 250Gb drive, 2 firewire ports, 1 usb port to go to your machine and 2 usb ports to connect...
Advantages: Huge amounts of storage, durable, can take game saves everywhere. Disadvantages: Price.
...The Xbox 360 120GB removable harddrive is a great item to buy for any Xbox 360 gamer. The larger harddrive has become even more useful with the coming of the ability to buy or rent movies via the Xbox Live Marketplace. Considering each movie is around 1GB in size (and even larger if downloaded in HD) conventional size HardDrives will rapidly be eaten up.
The removable harddrive is also extremely easy to use, it slides clips on the size of the Xbox 360 console, and absolutely no further setup is required. It is equally as easy to remove, you simply have to push in the button and lift it out of position. Its relatively small size then comes in handy, as you can carry it to your friends house and fit it on their console. All of your game saves and your gamercard can now be accessed on their console and provided they have access to...
Advantages: Simple Setup, great value for money Disadvantages: Win 2000/XP/Vista only - not for Win 98/ME
...I have previously purchased a Freecom 500 GB externaldrivedrive and have been very happy with it's performance and reliability. So when the drive started to become 80% full it was time to look for some additional storage. I saw the new Freecom 1TB drive on Amazon and given my previous good experiences purchased one straight away. It arrived this morning (Tuesday) having ordered in the previous Friday, and all of this post free.
For anyone that hasn't bought a Freecom externalharddrive before, you get a very stylish drive unit, power adapter, leads and installation disk. Installing (in my case) took less than 5 minutes, most of the time was spent unpacking the pieces.
Simply attached the usb lead, power pack and switched on. Instantly recognised by the Windows XP operating system as the next drive letter.
The unit is virtually...
