Teac reference 300 - best mini system under £1000

...Having been in the market to downsize my old hi fi for something more compact, I've settled on the Teac reference 300 mkIII with DAB tuner. Its a 3 box system as opposed to the other smaller one box systems manufactured by Teac and others such as Denon, Arcam and Onkyo. As such, although being larger, it is more user friendly to use and has more power at 45 wpc RMS. At around £500 rrp it stands up favourably in price to the Arcam Solo Mini and comes in silver or black finish with machined aluminium fronts and a classy blue display on each unit. It actually appears slightly retro in appearance although the remotes are a bit cheap looking. The silver units can be found for as little as £349 without speakers so its quite a bargain. 300 - okish

Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: everything only if you watch another film before

...I have to admit I did do something wrong when watching this film. I happened to have watched "Meet The Spartans" before I watched this, so I kind of already knew the plot and sort of seriously got bored with this film, as I was expecting the funny bits come leaping out, unfortunately there was no funny bits and it was deadly serious, so at first I couldn't understand it but then I settled down to it however I have to admit I really do prefer the soundtrack over this film! The Director of the film is Zack Snyder, who is quite a new director and has only directed 3 films, "300" "Dawn Of The Dead" (Which I really do want to watch) & "Watchmen" (Which I'm not too sure about), he is not only a director but he is also a Producer and a writer! 300 v's How Many?????

Advantages: excellent story, amazing effects, hunky half dressed men!
Disadvantages: Bit far fetched with creatures at the end

Sennheiser CX300 - a great upgrade earphone

Sennheiser CX 300

Advantages: Sound quality, bass, ability to block out background noise
Disadvantages: Very flimsy for the price and no case included

...I bought these roughly a year ago and they only lasted a few months. The sound quality is very, very good. Having been stuck using the basic iPod earphones prior to these, the CX 300 were a refreshing change. The bass on them is certainly more than adequate. Although some in-ear headphones don't block out background noise very well you won't have that problem with these. As long as you have the correct sized cover on the headphones the background noise will be blocked out completely meaning you can have your mp3 player on below half max volume and hear the music very clearly. Prior to these I'd never used in-ear headphones before and was somewhat concerned as to whether they'd be to hard and rough on my ear. The Sennheiser however are very soft, not too large and quite easy to use. So, why didn't they last me very long? The wire...

Those of you who remember my stunning, wrongly uncrowned review of the HP300 will remember how it ran out after just 140 pages. Well, this time I splashed out on the upgrade. Basically, these cost £30 each, although I picked them up on ebay for around £19 brand new and sealed. They are print cartridges that do a lot more than the HP300. ...The TEAC 300 mini Hi Fi is a small stacking seperates system. This shiny aluminium system is great to look at, simple to use, has brilliant sound quality when used with decent speakers,and is good value for money. The seperates comprise of a tuner and amp, a cassette deck and a compact disc player. It has the opertunity to add a mini disc, which is around £200 more. Oh I nearly forgot to say that the cost of the already mentioned units come to around £599. The speakers are not generally supplied with this unit and a good set of infinity, or JBL speakers costing around £200 are a perfect match. The advantage of such a system is that it can be added to at any stage and upgraded for minimal cost (in hi fi terms!). The unit is so nice to look at it is not worth hiding away in a wooden cabinet, but should be displayed on top...
