Teac reference 300 - best mini system under £1000
Review of Teac REF 300 DAB MK III by
psilk
Advantages: Great Sound, Great Looks, Great Price
Disadvantages: Remotes a bit cheap, no USB port,
...Having been in the market to downsize my old hi fi for something more compact, I've settled on the Teac reference 300 mkIII with DAB tuner. Its a 3 box system as opposed to the other smaller one box systems manufactured by Teac and others such as Denon, Arcam and Onkyo. As such, although being larger, it is more user friendly to use and has more power at 45 wpc RMS. At around £500 rrp it stands up favourably in price to the Arcam Solo Mini and comes in silver or black finish with machined aluminium fronts and a classy blue display on each unit. It actually appears slightly retro in appearance although the remotes are a bit cheap looking. The silver units can be found for as little as £349 without speakers so its quite a bargain.
Sound quality for such a small unit is really clear and well defined with a warm bass typical of Teac...

Nice little number
Review of Teac A-H300 by
willsmj
Advantages: Good value
Disadvantages: nil
...The TEAC 300 mini Hi Fi is a small stacking seperates system. This shiny aluminium system is great to look at, simple to use, has brilliant sound quality when used with decent speakers, and is good value for money.
The seperates comprise of a tuner and amp, a cassette deck and a compact disc player. It has the opertunity to add a mini disc, which is around £200 more. Oh I nearly forgot to say that the cost of the already mentioned units come to around £599.
The speakers are not generally supplied with this unit and a good set of infinity, or JBL speakers costing around £200 are a perfect match.
The advantage of such a system is that it can be added to at any stage and upgraded for minimal cost (in hi fi terms!).
The unit is so nice to look at it is not worth hiding away in a wooden cabinet, but should be displayed on top...

My Unbiased review of the Teac CRL600
Review of Teac CRL600 by
IanOnline
Advantages: Compact, yet Powerful
Disadvantages: None
...After re-aranging our lounge a decision was made that the black clunky stacking hi-fi had to go, so a search on the internet and a visit to the Richer Sounds website led me initially to the Denon DM31.
I visited my local Richer sounds shop in Norwich the following day with the intention of purchasing a Denon, but a very helpful assistant informed me if I was to run powerful speakers such as mine (Bose Acoustimass 5) I would be better off with the Teac CRL600 with a higher wattage.
I hesitated as I had no info on this model, but decided to go with it when he assured me if I wasnt happy I could return it within 14days.
I plugged it all in at home and WOW I was very impressed. Far superior than my stacking ugly system. This unit sits beneath my tv ontop of the DVD player and looks well at home.
The audio quality from the CD and radio...

Sounds Great to me.....
Review of Teac PowerMax 500 by
wakey_uk_22
Advantages: Value for money, Great design
Disadvantages: I have found none
...I decided it was time to change my speakers on my computer. when browsing the internet i decided to give myself a budget of no more than £60 and so the search would begin....
I tried many retailers found on many different search engines and found lots of differnet makes and models available for people with a budget of around the £60 mark. one of these products were the powermax-500 speaker system with a sub woofer. This speaker system looks the part, sounds the part and believe me is the part.
If you want a speaker system that is great sound and great value for money then the teac powermax-500 is for you. I actually didnt end up buying the speakers because my father had bought this speaker system for himself about 6 months before i decided to look for a new speaker system and it turns out he had bought a new hifi with surround...

Happy snapping with the D300
Review of Nikon D300 by
Jobanjos
Advantages: Competitively priced and packed with new features
Disadvantages: None! Any disadvantages would be entirely personal
...The Nikon D300 will currently set you back around £1000 in the UK, and that's without the glass on the front. My review here might seem technical to some, but that's not an amount of money most people part with lightly. I don't apologise for putting some basic spec in the review, after all, if you're considering buying this camera, it's exactly what you need to know before getting out your wallet.
If you're after a camera that will take good quality pictures, and allow you minimal chance to alter the settings, then there are other cameras out there that will offer you better value for money.
Either way, I'd never advise buying a new camera, this one included, off the back of reading a review. You should always see that camera in person before making a decision. Visit a good camera store, where the staff should be more than happy...

300V vs 300D
Review of Canon EOS 300D by
Highguy18
Advantages: Canon quality, image quality, weight, price
Disadvantages: Easily scratchable, lens adaptions (see below), no film grain
...Before i start let me explain he differances between the Canon 300D and 300V-
300V - A mid range Canon FILM SLR (single lens reflex). this camera takes all kinds of colour / black and white / transparency etc. film but is NOT digital
300D - the subject of this review, the 300D is also a mid range Canon SLR but this version is Digital. Meaning that any pictures you take on the camera are stored on a compact flash card instead of film.
Now that the difference is obvious i will give a little technical detail for people who just want the facts.
Dimensions (WxDxH) - 14.2 cm x 7.2 cm x 9.9 cm
Weight - 560 g
Supported Flash Memory - CompactFlash
Picture quality - up to 6.30 million effective pixels
Lens Aperture - F/3.5-5.6
Focus Adjustment - Automatic, manual
Min Focus Range - 28 cm

For my 100th review, it's the 300 Spartans!
Review of Frank Miller's 300 by
l-m-n-o-p
Advantages: CGI looks fantastic, decent action
Disadvantages: Unintentionally hilarious, takes itself too seriously, gratuitous violence and nudity
...300 kind of tells the story of the Battle of Thermopylae (we'll deal with that later), in which a group of just 300 Spartan warriors held off the invading force of thousands of Persian soldiers. It stars Scottish actor Gerard Butler (we'll deal with that later) as King Leonidas, Lena Headey (who?) as his Queen, and that guy from LOTR and Van Helsing. What a cast, eh?
To be fair, I shouldn't be so harsh, since none of them are that bad. But anyway…
300 begins by explaining Leonidas's childhood, as he was brought up in a Spartan society which raises only the perfect boys (and throws the rest down a cliff), and breeds them into fierce warriors by making them fight each other to the death and leaving them out in the cold to fight wolves.
Skipping hastily, for all our sakes, to the present day, King Leonidas is visited...

Good option.
Review of Teac Reference 500 by
dazzle
Advantages: Nice looking, nice sounding, reasonable value for money.
Disadvantages: Upgrades are not that enticing and the remote control does not send out a strong signal.
...I was drawn to the Teac 500 system because I wanted something more "high-fidelity" than an Aiwa all-in-one unit but didn't want to mix and match units.
The advantage of having separates is that you can change units and therefore upgrade the system. Over time Teac have added various options such as 7 disc CD player, DVD player, AV amp.
The advantage of having separates all designed by Teac is that the system has one remote control, can serve as an alarm clock and is semi-intelligent. For example, if I switch the amp from CD to tuner, the CD player automatically stops.
I added a pair of Mission 701s to it and have found that it sounds superb.
I have two gripes though:
The remote control looks good, has all the required functions but has to be used 10cm away from the unit. I have e-mailed Teac to ask if they have a solution...

SX300 ROCKS!
Review of Electro-Voice SX300 PA Speaker by
ILIKEMONEY
Advantages: Great mid-high range speaker
Disadvantages: not so good bass
...Introduction
The Electro-voice SX300 PA speaker is an extremely lightweight PA speaker, but still delivers in both sound quality and volume as bigger and heavier speakers. I myself bought these speakers for use as monitors for my music studio, but since then I have used them for discos and other activities at my school, as they are easy to transport. I use these speakers with two EV bass cabinets and power them with two peavey power amplifiers. This rig is amazing for small gigs and vocal announcements in small-medium sized venues.
Construction
The SX300's are made mainly of plastic but they do have metal fixings on them to secure the whole cabinet. The speaker mesh on the SX300 is solid metal, not the cheap bendy stuff, and takes a lot of force to damage it. On one side of the cabinet is a handle, in my opinion it would have...
