Teac reference 300 - best mini system under £1000
Review of Teac REF 300 DAB MK III by
psilk
Advantages: Great Sound, Great Looks, Great Price
Disadvantages: Remotes a bit cheap, no USB port,
...Having been in the market to downsize my old hi fi for something more compact, I've settled on the Teac reference 300 mkIII with DAB tuner. Its a 3 box system as opposed to the other smaller one box systems manufactured by Teac and others such as Denon, Arcam and Onkyo. As such, although being larger, it is more user friendly to use and has more power at 45 wpc RMS. At around £500 rrp it stands up favourably in price to the Arcam Solo Mini and comes in silver or black finish with machined aluminium fronts and a classy blue display on each unit. It actually appears slightly retro in appearance although the remotes are a bit cheap looking. The silver units can be found for as little as £349 without speakers so its quite a bargain.
Sound quality for such a small unit is really clear and well defined with a warm bass typical of Teac...

My Unbiased review of the Teac CRL600
Review of Teac CRL600 by
IanOnline
Advantages: Compact, yet Powerful
Disadvantages: None
...After re-aranging our lounge a decision was made that the black clunky stacking hi-fi had to go, so a search on the internet and a visit to the Richer Sounds website led me initially to the Denon DM31.
I visited my local Richer sounds shop in Norwich the following day with the intention of purchasing a Denon, but a very helpful assistant informed me if I was to run powerful speakers such as mine (Bose Acoustimass 5) I would be better off with the Teac CRL600 with a higher wattage.
I hesitated as I had no info on this model, but decided to go with it when he assured me if I wasnt happy I could return it within 14days.
I plugged it all in at home and WOW I was very impressed. Far superior than my stacking ugly system. This unit sits beneath my tv ontop of the DVD player and looks well at home.
The audio quality from the CD and radio...

I have a sexy pair
Review of Teac PowerMax 500 by
moose
Advantages: Good looking (!), excellent sound, excellent value for money
Disadvantages: Wires, wires, wires!!!!
...!
Teac are actually German and well known for their high quality hi-fi separates – this was a major selling point to me – no cheap and tacky make here! They don’t actually stock many pc speakers – there are only 10 in the entire range. The Powermax 500/B ones I have are mid-range, priced at £43.46 (Jungle.com).

You will have to forgive my lack of technical knowledge here but I had to copy off the box! Although you will be pleased to know I have condensed it!!! For £43 you get an amplifier, subwoofer and 2 satellites.

Understated Excellence
Review of Teac V615 by
dobieg
Advantages: Straightforward no frills tape deck
Disadvantages: Few
...Teac have been in operating the electronics industry for over 50 years, and whilst they don't often feature in most people's list top five manufacturers, their reputation for building no-nonsense tape drives is well established.
Compact Cassette was first launched in the UK 1964 by electronics giant Philips. The first Walkman was introduced by Sony in 1979
By 1982 sales of pre-recorded tapes overtook standard vinyl albums, however by 1993 this was eclipsed by sales of Compact Disks.
Ten years on, and we have DVD, Minidisk, MP3 and the likes, so how come people still hang on to their cassette decks, and how come it still serves as the most popular audio format for people on the move?
The simple answer is cost.
Cassette based Walkmans and car audio systems are still significantly cheaper than the CD based rivals.

Sounds Great to me.....
Review of Teac PowerMax 500 by
wakey_uk_22
Advantages: Value for money, Great design
Disadvantages: I have found none
...I decided it was time to change my speakers on my computer. when browsing the internet i decided to give myself a budget of no more than £60 and so the search would begin....
I tried many retailers found on many different search engines and found lots of differnet makes and models available for people with a budget of around the £60 mark. one of these products were the powermax-500 speaker system with a sub woofer. This speaker system looks the part, sounds the part and believe me is the part.
If you want a speaker system that is great sound and great value for money then the teac powermax-500 is for you. I actually didnt end up buying the speakers because my father had bought this speaker system for himself about 6 months before i decided to look for a new speaker system and it turns out he had bought a new hifi with surround...

Amplified Heart - Everything But The Girl
Review of Amplified Heart - Everything But The Girl by
micksheff
Advantages: Some Good Songs, Good Lyrics
Disadvantages: Quite Mournful In Places, Some Songs Rather Short
...In 1994 Tracey Thorn and Ben Watt, collectively known as Everything But The Girl, released their seventh studio Album entitled Amplified Heart. There had been two other Albums released between this and its predecessor Worldwide, but these were essentially compilation Albums. One called Acoustic, released in the United States only and featuring as you may guess from the title, Acoustic versions of some of their previously released songs. The other a proper compilation of their Greatest Hits called Home Movies.
Amplified Heart contains 10 tracks as below:
Rollercoaster
Troubled Mind
I Don't Understand Anything
Walking To You
Get Me
Missing
Two Star
Walk The Same Line
25th December
Disenchanted
The Album opens with Rollercoaster, the first single to taken from the Album. This is an upbeat track. Tracey's voice is smooth...

Expensive - But worth every penny !
Review of Teac - 500-i by
Greg_Fullerton
Advantages: Quality of sound
Disadvantages: Cost
...The Teac 500 - i Hi-fi System which I bought six month ago consists of a tuner, compact disc player, cassette deck and a 50 watt amplifier. Although this Hi-fi was pretty expensive it is well worth it as it produces such quality sound via the Tannoy Speakers which the Hi-fi is connected up to.
The colour of the Hi-fi separates are a champagne colour which looks aesthetically pleasing. Also the remote control which is supplied with the Hi-fi is easy to use and has a great functional button on it which dims the lights on the LCD’s on the Hi-fi if you want to relax and not want a glare.
Overall, this Hi-fi separate system is a great quality product and produces excellent sound which ever music you listen to....

The separates system that thinks it's a hifi
Review of Teac Reference 500 by
monoply123
Advantages: Great looks, ease of use
Disadvantages: Too big for some people
...This system consists of separates but they link so seamlessly that you'd swear you were using an integrated hi-fi. The sound quality is fantastic.
I am using the speakers taht came FREE with the system and are TEAC speakers and retail at around £130. However the sound produced is rich and has great depth.
The system has a AM/FM tuner, a CD player and a MD player all of which operate through the stereo amplifier. The remote control operates all components and is well thought out.
The MD is easy to use and recording and editing facilties are simple to learn. The naming of tracks and albums is easier than on most MD players, more like the Panasonic portable MD players than Sony. The buttons feel reassuringly well built and flicking between tracks is a more than pleasant experience (i jest!). A remote solely for the MD is included...

...The band:

The Matrix - Additional vocals on 'Alive and Amplified'

This album is absolubtly fantastic! It is one of the most well written albums and doesnt have one single bad track. The Mooney Suzuki are quite unknown but are one of the best sounding rock bands around.

Amplify your Heart
Review of Amplified Heart - Everything But The Girl by
bigbtommy
Advantages: Everything
Disadvantages: The Dance Track.
...I bought this album ages ago, and today walked over to the CD rack and noticed it peering down at me: "Everything But The Girl, Amplified Heart". They say good music lasts forever, so why should a good album like this die, even if it was released in 1994.
OK, first off. What is it? Is it pop? Rock? Dance? Well it's pretty slow, miserable music. But in a slow "he's left me" sort of way. It's probably pop if you were to caregorise. But I hate categorising. It's not the cheesy sort of Britney Aguilera does Madonna's greatest hits, but what music should be: from the heart, soulful and good. You may have heard of them, you may not have. But they have made albums all the way from 1984's 'Eden' up to 2000's 'Temperamental'.
The biggest hit of the album is the 11th track, Missing (Todd Terry Club Mix). That was back then when house music...
