A high quality cd-rom drive
Review of Teac Desktop CD-ROM 532E by
richard_richard
Advantages: Quality and reliability of drive
Disadvantages: Outdated and discontinued model
...The Teac 532 cd rom drive is an cd-rom reader that is designed to be fitted internally into a PC.
I had this unit in my PC for about 2 years before I decided to upgrade the whole system.
I paid about £120 for this drive and at the time 32x read speed was about the industry standard. How times change as now we are looking up to 72x read speeds on cd-rom drives, which make this unit look positively tortoise-like!
Specs
This cd-rom drive is compatible with operating systems up to Windows 98. It has a 32x read speed and needs to be fitted into a IDE interface inside the computer.
The drive measures, (W) 5.75” (H) 1.65” (D) 7.56”. It weighs 2.65lbs. Overall these are the standard measurements for a cd-rom drive, otherwise it wouldn’t fit into your computer!
On the front panel of the unit, from left to right there are...

My Unbiased review of the Teac CRL600
Review of Teac CRL600 by
IanOnline
Advantages: Compact, yet Powerful
Disadvantages: None
...After re-aranging our lounge a decision was made that the black clunky stacking hi-fi had to go, so a search on the internet and a visit to the Richer Sounds website led me initially to the Denon DM31.
I visited my local Richer sounds shop in Norwich the following day with the intention of purchasing a Denon, but a very helpful assistant informed me if I was to run powerful speakers such as mine (Bose Acoustimass 5) I would be better off with the Teac CRL600 with a higher wattage.
I hesitated as I had no info on this model, but decided to go with it when he assured me if I wasnt happy I could return it within 14days.
I plugged it all in at home and WOW I was very impressed. Far superior than my stacking ugly system. This unit sits beneath my tv ontop of the DVD player and looks well at home.
The audio quality from the CD and radio...

in the blue mp3/cd player
Review of Panasonic CD / MP3 player by
l1nda
Advantages: Good basic player
Disadvantages: reliability lets it down
...I was given this player to keep me occupied on my many long bus and train journeys.
THE PLAYER
This is a Japanese mp3 and CD player, which comes in a silver and blue top with a grey base. It is 13cmx13cmx2½cm which is about average size, so its more bag sized than pocket sized. It comes with an adapter and ear bud type headphones. It only has a small display area, so only displays limited information on it, such as which track and album or how long the song has been playing for. There are also little icons to display what modes you have it on, which are discussed later. The buttons are fairly small, so not fab it you are fumbling about in the dark or going under a tunnel, or if you have any arthritic type problems that makes it difficult to press small buttons. The overall appearance is nice and suitable for male or female...

mp3 cd player
Review of Sony CD / MP3 player by
Cid-zx
Advantages: good battery life
Disadvantages: ?????
...in a very short time and these days you would be hard pushed to find a piece of audio software that isn’t capable of converting your cd collection into mp3 files, much of it for free.
Even better, you are no longer limited to listening to your MP3 collection on your PC. Some hi-fi and mini systems are able to play mp3s but when it comes to personal audio players it seems that every passing day brings a few more tempting gadgets on to the market.
The trouble is that most of these mp3 players are still fairly new and usually quite pricey. I’ve been looking to spend about £60 and for that sort of price you can choose from quite a large selection of what are called solid state players.
Unlike walkmans they have no internally moving parts, so rather than physically place your music inside (as you would with a cd or tape) you simply attach...

The Perfect cd player
Review of Sony CD / MP3 player by
geodev4
Advantages: looks good, easy 2 use, huge batery life, 30cds onto 1
Disadvantages: headphones + software provided
...I came across this product whilst bored after doing my homework, fantasising about an ipod so I could store all my music. Whilst searching around the Internet I stumbled over many CD Mp3 players. I'd never heard of them before so I was intrigued to find out more.
I had owned a Sony Minidisc player for about 2 years, and had become fed up with having to change the Minidisc every so often (yes I'm very lazy!) and it had become broken and did not want to send it of to the manufacturers to mend it which would have been very costly.
A CD Mp3 player can store up to 30 albums onto one CD. This is very handy and by far easier than my previous Minidisc player is. This CD player comes with 2x AA alkaline rechargeable batteries which makes it possible to enjoy non-stop audio entertainment for up to 150 hours!!!!
THE SOFTWARE
Included...

CD/MP3 player of kings
Review of Panasonic CD / MP3 player by
gwlith_y_wawr
Advantages: MP3 playback and long battery life
Disadvantages: The random function doesn't work properly
...Whenever I’ve had to choose a CD player like this, for me or for a present, the first thing I look at is the battery time. This is what first led me to this player, it advertises 30+ hours of CD playback and 48 hours of mp3 playback (these are for non-stop playback, with no skipping. Using the skip a lot will reduce battery time and giving it resting time between playbacks increases battery time.) Those numbers seemed pretty amazing to me from just 2AA batteries. So I bought it....
The round shape looks great and I can’t see how a CD player could get much smaller. It feels very well built, and it takes very big bumps (unusually big) to get it to skip. The remote control is useful for whenever you are carrying it around in your pocket or a bag and don’t want to have to reach into your pocket and fumble around for the buttons...

Cd player
Review of Chumleywarner - CD players by
Chumleywarner
Advantages: small and thin
Disadvantages: small batteries
...Hi
I would like to recommend CD Player.
It is made by a not very much know brand. The brand is 'Thomson'.It cost me £60 pounds and can be purchased from any good electrical store.I am now going to write a list of its features.
I has-
45 sec ESPX(this means you can go running with it on and the CD will skip any music because it stores it in is memory 45 secs ahead).
You have the option of surround sound or bass boost or ordinary sound quality.
A pair of good quality ear phones are supplied.
The actual CD players is very thin so it can fit into your pocket.
It uses two AAA batteries(very small and thin).
If you buy two rechargeable AAA batteries you can charge them up in the CDplayer by putting them in the battery port and plugging it in using the adapter supplied.
Thers only one small problem because the batteries are small...

Portable CD player which plays MP3's!!! 11 hours!!
Review of NTrac - Portable CD-MP3 Player! by
corkin
Advantages: You can have 11 hours worth of music - or as many as 512 songs - on ONE CD!!
Disadvantages: None whatsoever!!! This is amazing!
...In the back of NME magazine, I saw an advert which I simply could not believe.... a portable CD player which plays MP3's on a CD-r!!
What that means is that you can have up to 11 (yes, ELEVEN) HOURS of perfect quality CD music playing from MP3's - that means you can make MP3's of all your favourite CD's, burn it onto a blank CD and then play away.
It only costs £125 (British) ex. VAT, or £155 including VAT, which I think is very reasonable for something that will play so many hours of music!
Although I have not actually bought the player (yet) I contacted the company who's website can be found at www.ntrac.co.uk asking him how long a battery would last and he said that for £10 extra you can buy special re-chargeable batteries from the company, and he also said that on high-life Duracell battery it could last 4 or 5 hours...

Good option.
Review of Teac Reference 500 by
dazzle
Advantages: Nice looking, nice sounding, reasonable value for money.
Disadvantages: Upgrades are not that enticing and the remote control does not send out a strong signal.
...I was drawn to the Teac 500 system because I wanted something more "high-fidelity" than an Aiwa all-in-one unit but didn't want to mix and match units.
The advantage of having separates is that you can change units and therefore upgrade the system. Over time Teac have added various options such as 7 disc CD player, DVD player, AV amp.
The advantage of having separates all designed by Teac is that the system has one remote control, can serve as an alarm clock and is semi-intelligent. For example, if I switch the amp from CD to tuner, the CD player automatically stops.
I added a pair of Mission 701s to it and have found that it sounds superb.
I have two gripes though:
The remote control looks good, has all the required functions but has to be used 10cm away from the unit. I have e-mailed Teac to ask if they have a solution...
