Teac reference 300 - best mini system under £1000

...Having been in the market to downsize my old hi fi for something more compact, I've settled on the Teac reference 300 mkIII with DAB tuner. Its a 3 box system as opposed to the other smaller one box systems manufactured by Teac and others such as Denon, Arcam and Onkyo. As such, although being larger, it is more user friendly to use and has more power at 45 wpc RMS. At around £500 rrp it stands up favourably in price to the Arcam Solo Mini and comes in silver or black finish with machined aluminium fronts and a classy blue display on each unit. It actually appears slightly retro in appearance although the remotes are a bit cheap looking. The silver units can be found for as little as £349 without speakers so its quite a bargain. However if you do have Sat Nav, this can also be a con - if you think about it, another thing to remember in the morning and another thing stuck to your window. It is supplied with a in car power supply which you plug into your ciggerrate lighter - which can also be another downside if your Sat Nav starts to lose it's battery life. Advantages: Inexpensive, decent output for a bedroom or smaller room, mp3 capability
Disadvantages: No good for a larger room due to the 5 watt output per speaker

Dip Dab, the sherbet sensation!

Disadvantages: not nessecarily the cheapest (but free p&p may make it cheaper)

...My scanner broke, and I needed a new as I was updating my web site. I did a price search on price runner, and got a list of scanners and sellers. Dabs was actually a few pence dearer than the cheapest price, but they delivered free, where as the cheapest seller required p&p. The scanner was a canon N65OU, a slim number that plugged into your pc's USB. It cost just a total of £69 (including vat). I got an email telling me my order had been accepted, and it should be sent the next day. Sure enough the next morning it turned up. A day after I got a letter with a written invoice. I have had no reason to contact them (other than the sale of the item), so cannot comment on that aspect of it....

...Having used dabs.com only twice, I cannot really give a fair opinion on what the shop/service is like. I can however alert people to the mistakes they made with both of my products and hopefully warn them so it doesn't happen to them. I didn't actually shop online, I drove to the warehouse in Westhoughton (Bolton district) as I only live in Wigan (about 15 mins drive away). On the first occasion, i bought a Fujitisu hard drive - 20.4GB at just £73 - bargain I thought. However after getting the new hard drive home and discovering that I had to then download the software for it myself, I soon discovered the new hard drive wasn't working at all. My first inpression when i got it out of the box was good, it blends into any car dash board with its sexy matt finish and it espeicially blends into my dashboard with its red light up buttons as i have a VW passat with the red and blue dash lights.... looks right at home.
