The New title for those seeking a position within an operating theatre is Medical Technical Officer Support ODP2 and these positions are becoming more widely popular within a Hospital Operating Theatre. Not like the 2 year training for a level 2 ODP which you do need O, levels for and now mostly come straight from university with no life experiences at all. But this is a good starter for anyone considering working in an operating theatre you are well trained and you need to have some of these basic skills first to be confident enough to carry out the basic tasks. ...to pay , unless I choose to fight them in the courts over their poor product. My advice to anyone wishing to do a computing course is to go to a technical college or university - can't possibly cost much more than Scheiddeger charge - that way you get a recognised qualification. As far as I am aware Scheidegger certificates are not a recognised qualification in the UK so you have to actually go out and pay for a real public exam to get the qualifications you want.... ...and catering? If not, what will the extras amount to? Will you need to consider the cost of things such as the use of video links? Technical support? Admin staff?  Suitability: Sounds obvious doesn't it? But never make the mistake I did and take something for granted. I found a superb, well priced venue with accommodation and parking on site, but I clean forgot to ask about internet access, assuming that the organisation in question would have no problems. Thankfully, my colleague made me check and it was back to the drawing board before we signed anything  Cancellation: With any event there will be costs attached, and depending on what else is going on, you could find yourself not breaking even and having to cancel. Disadvantages: my course package doesn't work on XP!

I contacted the Technical Help section and also emailed my course tutor to explain the situation but would hopefully get on track with finishing the course by the date that I'd agreed. the course was only supposed to be about 10 hours long so I was expecting to take two-three weeks to complete it at an easy pace. Initially Technical were helpful and making all kinds of suggestions, none of which worked. I sent them information about my PC (which is a standard machine with nothing fancy), screen shots, did something called a trace route, added them to 'trusted sites', allowed pop-ups, partailly disabled my firewall. Still nothing worked. In the meantime I kept getting emails from my course tutor asking why I hadn't submitted any work and I duly responded with the reasons why but a couple of days later I would get... Read review

In some companies a role may include a blend of a few of the options, in others they may be separate roles generally depending upon the size of the company mainly. Technical Accountants are highly sought after and can be hard to find. Accountancy rules are constantly being updated and the technical accountants job is to keep up to date with these changes and assess how their company should apply the rules. Additionally they give advice on an ongoing basis as generally mere mortal accountants such as myself, do not know every accounting rule by heart. Advantages: Good IT/business courses
Disadvantages: Bit busy sometimes, and arts courses are poor

...On the IT courses (under the odd banner of Computing and Management Department) there is a strong bias towards placements and business skills which I believe is very useful. The sandwich placement scheme basically runs in the third year of a lot of the technical degrees at SHU and makes degrees last that extra year - another advantage for work shy students! Students graduate with a years industrial placement, and a Honours degree meaning they break out of the awful Catch 22 of no experience/cant get a job to get some experience. The placements are paid, and offer students a chance to blow all their wages on extra amounts of drink and PCs. :) Having almost completed mine, I feel that I have a much higher chance of being employed when I leave, and many placement companies offer jobs after your final year... The Tutor Marked Assessment (TMA) instructed us to write an imaginary report outlining the technical suitability of three specific mobile services for a company with a mobile workforce. Flossing Hell! I was ready to withdraw from T209 within the week. Writing about 1st/2nd/3rd/ generation mobile systems? My mobile phone is a house brick and I only use it to call the AA Emergency Services. However, I wrote a beautifully presented, grammatically correct report but I clearly didn’t understand a word I was writing. Fortunately, all learning institutions are now into students analysing our own learning by reflecting and identifying our strengths and weaknesses. I’m good at that, consequently gained marks...
