The non technical viewpoint
Review of Sony Mavica MVC FD90 by
SusanLesley
Advantages: Easy to use, see the photographs straight away.
Disadvantages: Quite expensive.
...There was request on one of the ‘gropes’ (Yahoo groups) the other day for opinions about digital cameras and it got me thinking. Everyone doing opinions of this type would, naturally enough, veer towards the technical capabilities of the item in question, in fact Dave has already done an excellent opinion about this very camera.
I thought that I would try writing an opinion about the benefits of having such a camera, without going into the technical side, which I don’t really understand anyway, and see how it was received.
Our new camera is a Sony Digital Mavica (or MVC-FD90) and it cost us about £450. Mind you we had saved over £100 worth of free vouchers on sites such as Mypoints and Ipoints, which helped a lot, and we got 9 months interest free credit on the remainder of the price.
When we first decided...

No technical stuff, but users comments
Review of Olympus µ[MJU:] 300 Digital by
trimpex
Advantages: Easy to use. Switch on, point and shoot.
Disadvantages: Battery has to be removed to charge.
...This opinion leaves out all of the technical details and concentrates on usability.
( I have looked at the other opinion listed and it gives a full technical breakdown)
First of all, the comments I hear when other people look at the camera are 'Wow, that is a really neat camera'
*1st disadvantage* You get this comment because you don't get a case with it.
That aside, I got my camera home and charged the battery, (takes about 2 hours) and DIDN'T read the instruction manual. (Is this guy MAD ?)
Well, I am of the opinion that I didn't want anything too techincal but just able to take some nice pics.
You switch the camera on by sliding open the lens cover.
Default settings for the camera are pics at High Quality 2048 x 1536, this setting gives you 20 shots on the 16mb card that comes with the camera.
All other settings...

Herby Turns Technical!
Review of Minolta DiMAGE S414 by
herby30
Advantages: See review
Disadvantages: None
...Whilst we were in Florida recently, we decided to take advantage of the weak dollar rate as well as of course Florida’s cheaper prices and succumb to the digital era, yes we bought a digital camera, a Minolta Dimage S414 4 million mega pixel version to be precise, which would normally retail here in the UK for around the £200 mark, but we managed to get a bit of a bargain and bought it for a mere $199.99 (around £110), not bad eh?
Not being the most technically minded person, it’s hard to know where to start when writing a review such as this, so for the benefit of people like me out there, I will try to make it as simple as possible.
The Appearance
It is slightly bulkier than your run of the mill 35mm camera only there is a lot more buttons to learn about and although the outer casing of the camera is made from lightweight...

MY CHRISTMAS PIXIE!
Review of Fujifilm FinePix A370 by
fabfrog5
Advantages: its small, handheld, light, and extremely EASY to use!
Disadvantages: will be expensive to replace if i drop it!
...My Christmas Pixie
*The purpose of this review is to show the simplicity of the product. Written in an easy to understand format especially for those, like me, who do not have a clue about anything technical!
For years I have carried my trusty zoom-flash camera from Boots and have been very happy with its pictures and weight. My cameras been everywhere with me and every gig and every holiday place. But, unfortunately, its time has come and i'm finding it increasingly slow to use, so much to my surprise I had a nice digital camera off my parents for Christmas.
Oh dear, I don't understand anything technical, computerised or anything with a lot of buttons. I can't use a scientific calculator, I don't understand the sky programming sections and my phone is a basic Nokia 3210.
When I rip open the wrapping paper I panic...

Pictures from the Gods on High!
Review of Olympus CAMEDIA C 50 Zoom by
TheChocolateLady
Advantages: Rechargable and long lasting LiON batteries, Looks good, 5 Mega pixels
Disadvantages: Sliding lens cover is weak, only 32mb xD card, doesn't have a case
...My boss loves gadgets, and he also loves taking pictures. So when digital cameras started becoming popular, he went out and bought an Olympus Camedia digital camera – which was probably the first digital camera that Olympus ever made. That sturdy old workhorse is still in use today (by me, mostly – isn't he nice?). In fact, there was only one reason that he decided to buy something else – the old one was eating up batteries, both regular and rechargeable ones. So, he went out and bought the (then) top of the line Olympus – the C-50 zoom.
Let me tell you a bit about it - but let me first warn you, this isn't going to be a very technical review. If you want technical stuff, take a look at my "Technical Stuff" at the bottom of this review and follow the URLs there.
First of all, and most importantly for my boss, this camera...

No other camera for me.
Review of Fujifilm FinePix F11 Zoom by
Achtel
Advantages: easy to handle, great pictures, high potential even for more professional people
Disadvantages: there are surely cheaper cameras out there, but none for better value
...My very first technical review. I hope you'll like it, but I have to say in advance that I am *not* a professional photographer, nor even close to that. The intention for buying this camera was to be able to take the odd picture or two when you're out with friends, or visiting other places etc. Something that will produce pictures that you can look at in a couple of years and say - "aww, that was nice, do you remember?"
Right, before I start writing the review I think it's best to give a few technical details - mostly those, that I understand and that are of importance to me. I won't mention technical features that I've never used and thus can't really comment on. I've had the camera for about half a year now and took more than 500 pictures with it - so if you're looking to buy a camera that will help you build up an extensive photo...

Picture Perfect (well almost!)
Review of Sony Cyber-shot DSC-P31 by
jellybean11
Advantages: see op
Disadvantages: see op
.../D Conversion - allows a wider dynamic range from highlight to shadow
• Adjustable Flash with Red Eye Reduction
• 1.6" TFT colour (61,000 pixels) LCD Screen with Auto Brightness;
• Fast USB download to computer
• 2 x AA NiMH rechargeable batteries (1750mAH included with BC-CS1 charger)
• Sony Memory Stick media, 8MB included
That’s the technical bit over-I promise! Now onto the practical usage of this thing. Firstly the camera is smaller than the Kodak one and I believe it is a little lighter too, not greatly but gadgets seem to be shrinking every year (in fact I’m surprised mobiles aren’t disappearing) that smaller seems to be seen as better in the gadget world. The red-eye reduction is excellent too I’ve used this in daylight and at night and have never had any problems at all so I can confirm that this is a very good feature of the camera...
