...I was very annoyed when I built my new pc and installed xp to find Easy CD creator would no longer work, so annoyed I wrote a damning opinion on ciao, slating Roxio. Eventually, after three months of calming down and desperately trying to get around the fact that Easy cd creator 3, 4 or Direct cd 2.5 will never work on XP and being fed up with microsofts limited and slow cdwriting package(no re-writing) I decided it was time to buy the Platinum 5 software. I searched the net.....how much? still 50 quid? Tried everything even bidding on an illegal copy on ebay to get this packet writing software at a sensible price. So out I went into sunny Bournemouth....PC World, nill stock £50....Staples, nill stock £45, Commet, nil stock, Dixons????? "what is that?" and "does it work on Playstaion2?" ...There never was anything really wrong with Adaptec’s Easy CD Creator 4.0 Deluxe, so why am I now writing about version 5.0 Platinum? Because bl**** Windows XP Pro won’t work with the older version, that’s why! However, it would only be a matter of time before I upgraded my CD-Writer to a newer faster model, and then support for 32-speed models probably wouldn’t exist on version 4 anyway, so the enforced necessity of the upgrade isn’t a COMPLETE waste of money. In the mean time, the software is now owned by Roxio, which sounds more like a Spanish cinema chain than a software house, but that’s by the by. It was on the support page their web site, www.roxio.com that I ascertained the need for the upgrade. Windows XP only informed me that the old version might not work. But why buy CD-Burning software when the CD-Writer itself... Read review

...Easy CD creator 5 is the easiest program to make CDs with and comes with a huge range of extras. Version 5 is a large improvement over version 4, and the below review refers to the duluxe version. CREATING CDS Creating CDs couldn't be simpler. You insert a blank CD and select your project type. You can create audio, data, mixed, video cd, bootable and more. Once you've done this you can drag and drop items into your CD layout. Version 5 now allows you to add mp3s to CD automatically, and it rips them itself. It will also imoport previous sessions on the CD if they exist. This is useful as once you write a new session onto a CD using this feature, you will be able to see both sessions without having to change between them. Writing the actual CD is simple. ...The DELUXE edition of version 4.0 Easy CD Creator comes with all the kind of software that you would expect to be bundled with any decent CD Writing machine. Audio recordings can be chosen from a selection of .wav. AND .mp3 files. How you get them onto your hard drive is another matter. They can be a mixture of file types. Make any changes to track title text (make sure you set it out as if it’s going to be a disk label – it is!) and set the recording process in action. If you are feeling really flash, you can even overlap tracks so that they fade into one another. There is a CD-Labelling option that allows you to either use your information, or if you load a mainstream shop-bought CD into your machine, the software can be made to go off into the web, to a database of CD’s where it derives all the track... ...I got this software as the CD burning software when I bought my Memorex CD Writer about 5 months ago, and I have never had any trouble with it. The user interface is simple to use, and gives you no headaches at all. The proof of how easy it is to use Easy CD Creator is that I used it fine straight out of the box with NO manuals. And I hadn't owned a CD Writer before, so this was all uncharted territory to me! Using Easy CD is just a case of telling it what you want to do, and then letting Easy CD talk you through it. There is even a 'CD Copier' mode, where it just makes a carbon copy of whatever is in your D: Drive. Brilliant for making back up copies of CDs (not illegal I hasten to add, copyright laws allow you to produce a back up copy for personal usage) with two or three clicks of the mouse. ...I have a Freecom 12x10x32x cd-writer with "Burnproof", which is an excellent drive. It came with Adaptec Easy CD Creator, which I was expecting to have to replace with Nero; I had previously used an early version of Easy CD Creator that was incredibly incapable. However, I was very pleasantly surprised. Easy CD Creator is amazingly easy to use, allowing you to copy CDs, write audio Cds and write data CDs. The interface is mainly drag and drop. For example, if you wish to create an audio CD to play in any Cd player then you just select the audio files you want and drag them into a box in the order in which you wish them to appear. There is even no need to convert mp3 files to wav format, you just drag them into the box and Easy CD Creator does it all for you. ...Virtually every Computer owner who has a CDR or CDRW included on their system will know about Easy CD Creator in its various incarnations, and this new version will not disappoint. Installing is straight forward, the program is large at over 400 MB but in these days of massive hard discs that should not be a problem. More of an issue is the 300+ page manual that comes with the software; you would have to be a real masochist to read it cover to cover. Once Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator 6 Platinum is installed the first thing you will notice is the look. The graphics are rounded and colourful, (similar to Windows XP); also there is a little box in the left hand bottom corner of the desktop which is the “Drag to disc” part of the program. ...Adaptec Easy CD Creator was bundled with my Yamaha CD-RW drive, and is extremely easy to use. The software allows you to copy audio files to make a music CD that can play in any CD player, or create a data CD-ROM with files or programs on, or to do a direct copy of another CD you already have. The software is simple drag and drop, where you drag the files you want to copy into the window, and then click to create the CD. It even has a little character in the corner,rather like a balloon, who pops up with instructions and hints until you get used to the program (you can turn him off if you find him irritating). An interesting program that comes with Easy CD Creator allows you to format blank CDs so that they act like floppy disks, and you can just add files to it at any time, and then use the CD in other computer drives...
