i fix laptops and i dont often come across these
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8000 - PII 333 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
pcformat
Advantages: every one wants one
Disadvantages: slightly bulky
...The Tecra 8000 Is an exellent laptop. Of all the laptops I come across the tecra is One of the best I have seen.If you want some thing thin and sexy then this is not for you.The benefit of buying this machine are certainly good value for money .first there is the 14.1 tft screen. Then theres the prestigious name.Toshibas are very easy to fix if you come across problems .You can install the hdd yourself. you can install the memory yourself and if you format the hdd the chances are that you will find the drivers for the graphics card and sound card on the win 98 cd.every time I have come across this laptop I have seen pure exellence. Only two issues on the downside one is the price and the other is its slightly bulky....

Good solid laptop
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8000 - PII 333 MHz - 13.3" TFT by
vurt
Advantages:
Disadvantages:
...I bought my Tecra 8000 to do computer consulting work on, so pretty much everything from using apps, games, development and web stuff.
The machine has a really good, large screen, thought it doesn't go to very high resolutions without resorting to a 'virtual desktop' type arrangement which doesn't really work. The battery life is absolutely excellent, often putting in at least 3.5 hours, even 3 with constant DVD access going on.
My machine came with a DVD drive and MPEG decoder which works excellently under win98 but attrociously under win2000 which appears to ignore the codec.
Hard disk is large at 12gb and seems to have good access speeds.
Sound system is reasonable, the speakers are a bit wimpy compared to a Thinkpad's and the onw board synth doesn't get recognised by a lot of music creation software.
Graphically...

My Toshiba Tecra M2 - Warming up to Progress
Review of Toshiba Tecra M2 - Pentium M 745 1.8 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
BawBaw
Advantages: Light, versatile, packed with features
Disadvantages: It's still a laptop
...Let me make it perfectly clear right up front: I'm not overfond of laptops. They're relatively small, usually have rather fuzzy screens, come with small keyboards that make typing difficult, and have strange built-in mice that are nigh onto impossible to manipulate. Given my durthers, I'll take a full-sized PC any day.
Despite all these disclaimers, my purpose here to review the Toshiba Tecra M2 notebook, kindly purchased for me by my company to make me more efficient and productive. Now don't get me wrong. I appreciate the sentiments and the logic of the new laptop, even though I use it far less often than my more powerful, less portable desktop. But I have to admit, my Tecra M2 isn't as bad as I feared.
Talk about damning with faint praise! Perhaps I can improve a bit on that. There's one thing my Toshiba does remarkable...

Why Buy a Tecra?
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8100 - PIII 600 MHz - 14.1" TFT by
cdawkins
Advantages: Fast, Great Graphics Chip, Light (2.6kg)
Disadvantages: Expensive, Sensitive to registry changes
...Why did I buy the Tecra 8100?
First of all what I wanted was a desktop replacement machine, one on which I could do all my spreadsheet and word stuff as well as play games. I am an engineer so I need good connectivity options as well.
The choice was:-
Dell Inspiron 3800, 5000, 7500
Toshiba Tecra 8100
HP Omnibook 6000
The Dells are very good machines, I used to old an old 7000 series. The 3800 is light and quite quick, the 5000 has all the multimedia features you need, the 7500 has even more. But... The 3800 is not meant to be used as a desktop replacement, it doesn't have the oomph for that. The 5000 and 7000 are great machines but heavy.
The HP Omnibook is the machine I would probably buy by choice except that it is very expensive and uses the ATI graphics card
The Tecra is not as expensive as the Omnibook and uses...

Trek 8000 bike, move over Mr Porsche
Review of Trek 8000 by
skrg28
Advantages: Top Quality, first class frame
Disadvantages: a few cheap components
...BEWARE: full of bikers stuff.
A long long time ago I was an avid mountain bike fan. There were times when I was covering over 100 miles a day and clearing 10000 miles a year. So I ran quality bike s that would get me around quickly and with minimal effort.
I was a cycle courier for a time whilst I decided what to do with myself and on starting a career jib stopped cycling and eventually sold my expensive bikes on.
About 3 years ago I bought a Trek 8000 mountain bike. I bought this in a sale for £1100 pounds. I did my home work and came up with the 8000 as a good all round cross country bike that would give me all I needed for a lot less than I used to pay.
FRAME.
My bike has to be big as I am 6'3". So I opted for the largest I could get. They come in various sizes in inches which your local supplier can advise you on, which...

Great machine but a little long in the tooth
Review of Toshiba Tecra 550CDT by
vurt
Advantages: Well made, reasonable price now
Disadvantages: Small screen, small disk
...My Tecra was bought to consulting work, so pretty much all software types have been used on it.
First off, its an old machine, so can't stand up against 8000's and the like. So to get those details out of the way; It has quite a chunky body(2in tall) done out in un-sexy light grey, the screen is much smaller than modern lappies, about 10-11 inches. That said though, it does have USB which was unusual at the time. There is an integrated 10X CD-ROM which is really quick and which reads pretty much anything.
Like all Toshes it suffers from independantly minded mouse pointer which has never been resolved.
The disk is only 2gb which these days doesn't really work for most people, though it is sufficient for your OS and Office and most other apps. Just not useful for a major league downloader of software.
In all a really good...

Motorola HSW 8000
Review of Motorola HSW 8000 Headset by
johnny760
Advantages: Light Weight and easy to use
Disadvantages: Range 10m but in reality you get around 6 to 8m
...Due to the changing laws about driving and using mobile phones, I decided the safest option rarther than get a fine was to purchase a bluetooth handsfree unit rarther than the obtrusive and normally naff connectable phone hands free units. After much reserch and shopping around I decided to give the HSW 8000 a go.
You can pay anything upto £150 for a good bluetooth headset, indeed the HSW 8000 was retailing at £99 when I got mine (however I paid £25 on ebay) but in most of the reputable stores you will find it selling at around £50 but do shop around there is always a bargain to be had. Some new contract deals even supply both phone and bluetooth headset but watch out for the terms and conditions.
The headset itself comes complete with a mains charger and extemsive yet easy to read instructions. Pairing the term used to connect...

Organise your viewing with the Humax PVR8000T/80
Review of Humax PVR8000T by
Poispinner
Advantages: Easy recording/playback
Disadvantages: None found so far
...Do you, like me, find yourself missing your favourite programmes because you have too many things on your "to do" list? Or do you find that you sit down to watch something but feel guilty because you are not doing the cleaning or paying the bills? If the answer is yes then this product is definitely what you are looking for.
The Humax PVR8000T/80 is a combined set-top box and hard-drive recorder, with enough space for around 40 hours of TV. To organise you viewing week, all you need to do is browse the 7-day TV guide and press OK to choose the programmes you want to record. Then when you have some "me-time" to spare, all your programmes will be stored, ready to watch.
You can pause a programme if you need to go and answer the phone, or rewind it if you miss a bit. Also the TV/RADIO button is very useful as it means you can...

Great machine at bargin prices
Review of Toshiba Tecra 8100 - PIII 600 MHz - 14.1" TFT by
Dragon17
Advantages: Light, sleek and stylish. Great performance and great value for money.
Disadvantages: Largest screen size is 14.1 Inches.
...Working in IT I get to test all the latest machines and I had the pleasure recently of using the Tecra 8100 1Ghz machine running with 256MB and I have to say I was very impressed. Firstly it is quite sleek and light which you want in a laptop and I think it looks very stylish. Now that the asthetics are out of the way we can concentrate on the important things like performance and stability. I have experience of many laptops e.g. Compaq Armadas, Dell Inspirons, Sony Vaios etc but so far the Toshiba Tecra has been th most reliable. The other brands I have mentioned seem to all have problems with the power management systems. Most use speedstep technology which means when the laptop is not plugged in the processor will clock down to save power. This is a pain on most of the other machines but not the Toshiba. Also the biggest problems...

A good business laptop, at a price...
Review of Toshiba Tecra M2 - Pentium M 725 1.6 GHz - 14.1" TFT by
stevetwatson
Advantages: Lightweight, In-Built Wireless
Disadvantages: Keyboard, Price, only 2 USB ports
...The Toshiba Tecra M2 is aimed squarely at the business market (I'm writing this review from my work Tecra laptop!) and is a good, if not brilliant, option for the mobile business worker. The 1.6Ghz processor, 512MB memory and 40GB hard drive (on the standard model) aren't going to give you the ultimate laptop gaming experience, but this machine is aimed squarely at the business market.
For business users the main benefits are the in-built Centrino mobile processor, which avoids the need for any fiddly USB or PCMCIA card wireless add-ons and the lightweight design which makes this model particularly suitable for the busy business exec who regularly works away from the office.
The standard OS build is Windows XP Professional Edition. On top of the standard XP utilities, Toshiba have bundled some useful tools included a wireless...
