...On a recent visit to Pets at Home, I was on the look out for something to help our dog with her sometimes 'doggy breath' that she has. She doesn't suffer all the time but as all dog owners know, looking after your canines teeth and gums is just as important as looking after your own. My one gripe is that any dog treat is fattening and you're always recommended to adjust the amount of food at mealtimes and I wanted something that she could enjoy without me having to worry about her daily intake. I came across a box of bones made by "The Real Petfood Co Ltd" which had all natural ingredients, was specifically for teeth and gums and was a 'certified holistic product'. ...I don't knçow if you've heard about my cat Fesse already...but today I have decided I would write a review on what is to become my cat's favourite toothpaste... I bought a pack of food at the vet,and there was a sample of that new product...Petrodex Toothpaste for cats...I knew you could brush your dog's teeth,but didn't know you could do the same thing with your cat... At first,I wanted to bin it because the idea of brushing Fesse's teeth was pretty stupid,then I thought..."Well,maybe...let's have a go at it". I didn't have any toothbrush for my cat,but I had an old one that was MINE,so I cleaned his teeth with it (It may sound stupid,but try to buy one that should fit his jaw because Fesse didn't appreciate it that much) The paste in itself is like any regular paste that you brush your teeth with. ...Felix Denta Paw is available in 50g bags and are in appetising flavours. They are paw shaped and this helps to clean the teeth of the cat as it chews, with the recommended amount being 10 pieces for a 3kg cat, and 17 pieces for a 5kg cat. They could work out a very expensive item if your cats are on the larger side or you have several cats. The only problem that I have found with them is that the cats find them irresistable and would quite happily eat the full packet. As an owner of four cats I do only buy these occassionally as I have to hide them in a drawer as they can seem to still smell them out, and if put on the side they have on occassions helped themselves to them. ...Ok, just a quick tip for all you out there who haven't already discovered this. Toothbrushes (mind new ones used specifically for the purpose, not the same ones for your teeth, as ppl seem to assume when I tell them this), are EXCELLENT mini scrubbers. They work both in the bathroom and in the kitchen for ALL those tight spots that drive you mad. And, because the bristles are plastic they don't scratch or harm any surface. Just add a small amount of washing up liquid to the bristles (harder brushes work better than soft ones) and just rub all around the tight areas that would otherwise be difficult.
