...Having a fairly large family (who all like toast) I finally decided it was time to buy an electric toaster. Up until now, I had got by using the grill on my cooker, but it was becoming an increasingly time consuming process to prepare enough toast for everybody in the house. My actual requirements were fairly basic, any toaster I bought would have to be able to cook 4 slices at once, be silver in colour (to match the rest of my kitchen appliances) and be as cheap as possible. The Tefal Avanti Deluxe four slice toaster fulfilled all these criteria, and a little more besides, and at £24.99 in Argos it was an absolute bargain that I simply couldn't miss. Colour and design-wise it's very stylish with black and silver tones, and an unusual curved profile, it certainly fits in with the rest of my appliances. As far as cooking with it goes... ...Although I'd had a cheap toaster for a while it was very rarely used because I had a gas oven and grill and we always used that to toast anything other that sliced bread. Crumpets etc went on the grill and came out beautifully. The purchase of my first electric oven soon put paid to that due to the time required to heat the element. A toaster that was capable of a range of baked goods was necessary and the Tefal Avanti looked like it was up to the job. This is a big toaster with slots that look wider and deeper than the average. It has a futuristic appearance and plenty of buttons and knobs on the front to make it seem that toasting is a complicated task. There's a high lift button for teacakes, crumpets and other things that sit lower in the slot, there's a stop button if you notice smoke emerging and the usual browning control... Read review

...I enjoy a lazy slice of toast on those mornings when I don't have to race off to work at a ridiculously early hour. We've had the Tefal for a few years now so I feel qualified to review it. lasted longer than the cheaper toasters we have owned in the past. It cost a little more than the average cheapo toaster but has better facilities than most and the durability alone makes it a better deal. There are four variable width slots, controlled in pairs, so you can toast 2 or 4 pieces of bread at a time. The controls are simple and cover most options, the main operating switch is the mechanism that lowers the bread into the slots and activates the heaters. A solenoid prevents the lever locking in the down position if the toaster is not plugged in. There are buttons for keeping the toast warm (never used by me!) and one... Read review

...Last september, the other half and I finally moved into our flat together. For our first week in said abode, we were happy apart from the distinct lack of toast that we had - and BF does love his toast, bless him. The reason for this was due to the rather strange mixture of provisions that the landlord had equipped the flat with; you see, we had two woks and a wine rack but no kettle or toaster! So, when asked by my parents what we would like for a house warming pressie, this is what we told them.
