Final points. This is not a cheap lens. The suggested price is £4500. Yes I know that is a lot and puts it well out of the range of most amateurs( you can buy a second hand car for less). But for this price you are getting a fantastic lens. The literature describes it as "The ultimate telephoto lens" and I am not sure that they are wrong. The instruction booklet does ask that you not use chemical cleaners for the body or the glass lens. A
soft cloth or lens tissue is recommended.
Final tips, this was suggested to me and I pass it along. Sometimes when in the country you will want to take a quick shot and will not have time to set up the tripod. If there is a handy wall or post that you can rest the lens against, have a small bean bag handy to form a cushion for the lens.

Great affordable lens, but make sure you get it with VR!
Advantages: Excellent lens with many features. VR gives sharp shots even at long focal lengths. Smooth focus.
Disadvantages: For the price, none that I can think of. I am happy that I brought one.
...If you are looking for a starter telephoto lens for your Nikon dSLR then look no further. This 55-200mm lens is ideal for wildlife or sports shots (equivalent to 90-300mm zoom because of 1.5x conversion factor), or other outdoor activities. Now the version I have is the AF-S IF-ED VR one, which basically means it has a quiet auto focus motor built in, internal focusing (meaning the thread you attach filters to will not twist), superior optics and vibration reduction. This makes it especially feature packed for its price, and VR is very helpful at the longer focal lengths.
Basically with VR you can use this lens hand-held and at long focal lengths, but still get sharp shots. You can also shoot in dimmer light as you can get away with a slower shutter speed.
This makes it a perfect lens for a beginner or enthusiast. Lens optics are...

Great 2nd Lens
Advantages: Fast Focus, well built, reliable excellent performance all round
Disadvantages: Heavy, you will need a tripod
...where you are less than 4 metres from your subject (unless it is very small) so you need a good non-telephoto lens as well.
It comes with front and back covers as well as a lens hood almost as big as the lens itself!
Again this is a lens that for the price will open a whole new field of photogrpahy for you. I would reccommend it thoroughly.
If you are buying a new camera for the price difference it is well worth getting the double lens kit from Sony....
