...Ah, Telford. When trying to think about what wonderful review to write next I tried to think about what I know best, and what could I know better than my home town? And so I decided to write a review of Telford and all the exciting things in it, as well as some of the less exciting things. I once saw a duck in Telford. How's that for excitement? Okay, okay, I'll get onto serious buisness. A Brief History I may as well tell you a brief history of the town. It won't take long as the history is brief! Telford is a new town, officially designated in early 1963, then known as Dawley New Town, bringing together many smaller towns and villages in the area. Telford Shropshire

Advantages: Good place to visit, lots to do
Disadvantages: Have to pay to park for town centre everywhere

...Telford, Shropshire Telford is a town in the Midlands just off the M54 making it easy to access. Known as the birthplace of industry This town has lots of attractions and things to do, including a very large shopping centre with lots of shops to suit everyone's shopping needs, all indoors making shopping in any weather enjoyable. There are several very large car parks for the shopping centre all though you do have to pay to park. There is also a large market with stalls both inside and out and a really nice café on the inside of the market area. There are also a few large retail parks in Telford which are just a short car journey away. Telford worth a visit

Advantages: Easy to get to
Disadvantages: Finding stuff other than the Iron Bridge

...Telford, in Shropshire, is well worth a visit. It is an area steeped in history. And I am not talking about the faux "Victorian town" constructed at Blists Hill. Telford Love it or hate it

Advantages: has a very nice shopping centre (from a blokes point of view)
Disadvantages: I never will get the hang of that flaming ring road.

...I stopped off at Telford for a night on my way to Bridgnorth Folk Festival ( an exeptional Festival a review of which will follow as and when Ciao has a slot for Folk Festivals). Stayed at the Telford Travel Inn just to use up some old vouchers, the price should have been around £49.95. A promise they make is that should your sleep be disturbed in any way before 7am they will give you a refund and at around 6.30 am I awoke to the sound of a bin/skip lorry as the room I was in was at the back of the hotel. Although I would have accepted less the duty manager insisted on a full refund. Shopping, Telford has a very nice new shopping mall with most of the major retail outlets within, when I went the car park had the offer of 20 minutes free, so if you got your ticket back through the exit machine within that time you are ok. Sunday Lunch Made Easy

Advantages: Cheap, quick, saves cooking and close to home for me
Disadvantages: Hit and miss with the veg.

Disadvantages: Terrible service, terrible atitude, total contempt for the customers

The first two I found it to be ok, a bit fast foodish and artificial but very child friendly which was a big bonus to the in-laws we were with. The third visit was a quiet Sunday evening with just my wife and myself. It was a disaster. I ordered ribs and salad and as I took the first mouthful of the 'sticky out of a jar' sauce I discovered something in my salad that shouldn't have been there... Advantages: In a remote scenic area, lots of facilites

...Buckatree Hall Hotel - Telford Shropshire The hotel stated above is part of the Swallow Hotels chain, not like your average chain hotel this one is stunning my other half and I stayed there a couple of times going back after the first visit as we enjoyed it so much. It is a 2 star hotel but I believe it is well worth of more, it has 62 rooms catering for all needs and being very family friendly, they have single rooms, double rooms and family rooms and where possible will arrange and room to suit your individual needs. ...I don't know whether it the latest stint of Dancing on Ice that has made people want to go Ice Skating, however it was mentioned to me this week and automatically I said no, you are not getting me on the ice rink. After several days of persuasion I eventually said yes reluctantly, but just to keep the peace. I wasn't looking forward to it at all. I hadn't been on the ice for ten years at least and the last occasion when I went I had quite a bad fall and it seemed to put me off going again. Round and Round the Roundabout

Disadvantages: Not very friendly, not a lot of soul!

...Telford Town centre is (shock horror) situated in Telford, a new town that seems to consist of more roundabouts than soul. In fact Telford is so proud of it's roundabouts they nearly all have names and one of them houses what is perhaps Telford's finest asset, Telford Town Centre Shopping Centre. Due to the fact that Telford is actually made up of old mining villages linked by new housing estates, 1960's housing estates and roads with a plethora of roundabouts, Telford Town centre does not do as other town centre's around the country do. It is not the nightlife centre of the Town and it is not like a traditional high street. What you will find however are shops, and plenty of them. Exellent value

Advantages: large amount of facilities
Disadvantages: distance from town centre

...Stayed in this hotel for a couple of nights but it was long enough to get a feeling for the place. Price for a standard room is from around £47.50 per night depending on time of year. Weekends are busy so for these you will need to book early. This is room only and breakfast carried an extra charge. It is located about half a mile outside of the town centre and close to the Telford international centre but the hotel has lots of amenities inside that this didn't bother me. The staff are friendly and welcoming. The bedroom is en-suite and it was clean and tidy and as you would expect it was serviced daily. It had the usual tea and coffee making facilities as well as a TV, direct dial phone and the room had internet access. As with most hotels there was a hairdryer in the room but there was no safe.
