Simple life saving device from MG Rover.
Review of MG Rover Zero Temperature Warning Sensor by
MikeLB
Advantages: Easy Installation, Simple to understand, Effective
Disadvantages: Price, Tacky After Market Look when installed
...The MG Rover Zero Temperature Warning Sensor is such a simple device, ti really should be standard across the range. I bought this device as i primarily live in the Highlands and its starting to approach Winter and driving starts to become a bit more challenging in the cold weather. This LED display consists of a Green and a Red LED to alert the driver of the outside conditions and any changes to them which may happen whilst driving.
When the car ignition is turned to its first position, the LED will illuminate according to the exterior temperature. If the LED is Green, the exterior temperature is above 5 degrees, and the LED will extinguish after about 10 seconds. However if at any point, either when you start the car or are driving along, the temperature falls to 2 degrees, both the Green and Red LED's will illuminate steadily...

Temperature in the blink of an ear
Review of Braun Thermoscan by
sandemp
Advantages: Quick and easy to use, does not upset child.
Disadvantages: Initial expense, price of lens filters.
...My son is a severe epileptic, who is very sensitive to temperature, he will often start fitting once his temperature hits 38c. Therefore it's very important I can keep a check on his temperature when he's ill. However, he also dislikes being held and would kick, bite and generally try to escape while we were waiting for an underarm thermometer to take a reading. Then on one of our many hospital visits they were trialling the Braun Thermoscan, an in-ear thermometer. Wow, it took seconds to take his temperature, was accurate, and most importantly the nurse didn't get kicked!!!!
So as soon as we got out of the hospital we took a trip to Boots and spent some of our advantage points on the Braun thermometer.

Keep That temperature down
Review of Member Advice on Febrile Convulsions by
Belfastgirl
Advantages: None
Disadvantages: Terrifying Experience for any parent
...Probably one of the most terrifying experiences that a parent can have is watching their child have a febrile convulsion.
The story is usually the same - the child has been out of sorts, not quite their usual self all day, crying with a rip roaring temperature, and suddenly they are having some strange sort of fit, and next thing you know you are half way to the hospital and surrounded by Health Professionals muttering about Febrile Convulsions and seeming none too concerned about something that just minutes before frightened the life out of you.
I’m just finishing my training as a children’s nurse, and so this sort of scenario is very familiar - most parents will tell you a similar story to the one outlined above.
So what exactly is a Febrile Convulsion?
As the word Febrile suggests, it is a "fit" that is brought...

Fun looking but dubious temperature reading
Review of Grobag Egg by
HelenClarke
Advantages: Coloured glow is easy to read
Disadvantages: Inaccurate temperature reading
...Like many expecting mothers I was keen to buy all the latest gadgets for my baby, especially those linked to such serious subjects as SIDS. The Grobag egg is a digital thermometer and night light with a clear display and colour coded glows to warn parents of too warm or cold a room. The egg is a well designed and fun accessory to any room and provides a nice glow to keep baby feeling safe too.
We were initially quite obsessive with room temperature as baby was born in a particularly strange period of weather ranging from snow to warm sun in a couple of weeks. As the room fluctuated the egg glowed from red to yellow to green and allowed us to dress baby accordingly and to keep our minds at ease.
However, once our baby monitor was installed (with built in thermometer) the two instruments had a 2 degree difference which threw us...

Inacurate temperatures on main oven
Review of Hotpoint EW84 by
Susie0997
Advantages: Looks good
Disadvantages: Inacurate temperatures on main oven.
...We too have problems with the main (bottom) oven. Didn't discover at first, until at Xmas when I wanted hottest temp. for pastry, bread etc, & they wouldn't rise enough. Checked temperature & found it was far too low.
As it was still under guarantee , they replaced the sensor probe & main module (sort of electronic computer board) & there was hardly any difference. If I set it for 230c (max temp) the indicator light & pinger go off to say correct temperature has been reached ,when it's about 40 deg. less than it's been set for. After another 15mins it creeps up to 210c by my thermometer and won't go any higher. OK, so my thermometer may not be completely accurate, but it doesn't explain why it indicates it's hot enough, LONG before it actually reaches the max temp it 's going to go to.
As my engineer had just come from...
