Advantages: Very real drama, the reader gets caught up in the story
Disadvantages: Not as light and humorous as his other work

...My route into the work of Fitzgerald did not start as people often do with Gatsby, but I read a number of his short stories. The Diamond as Big as the Ritz and other stories, and The Basil and Josephine stories are light easy reads. The language and style of the twenties jazz era give a fun and frivolous atmosphere and reflects the stories which seems shallow frippery themselves. Even The Great Gatsby with its tragic conclusion does revel in the fun times of the age. Although I knew that Tender is the Night was semi-autobiographical based on Fitzgerald’s turbulent relationship with his schizophrenic wife Zelda Sayre, perhaps mis-guidedly I was expecting the novel to be approached in his signature style. ...I found this item a couple of days after one of the most disappointing dinners I have made. I had bought what appeared to be a lovely piece of braising steak, cooked it - as I have on numerous occasions - only to find that I could probably have used it very successfully to mend shoes! The Deni Meat Tenderizer is a small utensil, approximately 15cm x 11cm x 3.5cm (6" x 4.3" x 1.4") - as it is an irregular shape it is impossible to give exact measurements. It is made of white plastic and stainless steel and for a small item is quite heavy. It has 48 very sharp stainless steel blades which are protected by a frame and there is a plastic case which covers this. Advantages: Tragic, beautiful, period.

...Tender Is the Night was my second expedition in to the world of Scott Fitzgerald, I daresay it will prove so for most people. After all The Great Gatsby had a film made of it, it even had Sam Waterston and Rober Redford as the charming Gatsby. But, take it from me, Gatsby is but the mere prelude to the beauty, the tragedy and the sheer epic love of this novel. The locations are grand and believable, the characters loveable and tragic, lost in themselves and amongst those around them. If you can understand the relationships of our main characters to the movie star, then let me know, it's confusing and impulsive. If you can put this down without finishing it, or without dying to be lost in Paris in the 1920's you must have problems. It has at least one cover on it (Track 6, When A Man Loves A Woman), which was done by Percy Sledge a while back. It has a really uplifting track to kickstart the album, with Love Is A Wonderful Thing. This lulls you into a false sense of security of thinking this is going to be all good, upbeat songs, but the second song, the title track of the album, is upbeat in places but there is a definite mellowing feel to it. Leading into the softer sounds of Missing you now, and Forever isn't long enough, which really put me to sleep, but I did like them (anyone with an idea to knock sense into me?).
