The best kept secret in Tenerife
Advantages: Quiet, picturesque and relatively unspoiled. Year round sunshine.
Disadvantages: Very hilly. Parking can be a problem. Maybe too quiet for some. Small beach.
...a little bit of sunshine, then the south of Tenerife is still your best bet. However, please don't let the brashness of Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos put you off a trip to the south of the island. Quieter resorts can be found a little further up the coast. Los Gigantes (as well as neighbouring Playa de la Arena and Puerto Santiago) are all very nice and offer almost year round sunshine.
We discovered the resort of Los Gigantes over 15 years ago now, and we pop back every few years or so, and invariably find that nothing has very much changed there at all. There is still a total lack of nightclubs, very little noise (or light) pollution, and it's still as pretty and charming as ever.

The "giant" of the town
Advantages: Good location, 4*, adequate choice of food, clean, comfortable, friendly
Disadvantages: Buffet style meals, other guests(!)
...I'll do this review in two sections, firstly concentrating on the Hotel Los Gigantes, and then the resort.
HOTEL LOS GIGANTES:
This hotel is a Thomson 'Gold' hotel, and the awards are proudly displayed on the walls next to the reception (successive awards have been won for the past ten years). The brochure lists the hotel as being 4 star, so I was expecting a lot, having stayed in many 4 star hotels on business here in the UK.
We arrived early evening, and checked in but wasn't given our room key, instead being told to go through to the restaurant to get dinner. We opted to stay in our room and asked for the key instead, which they duly obliged to. I'm glad we didn't go in that night, as nothing prepares you for the restaurant, as we found out the next morning.
All the meals are served buffet style, which inevitably...

Princesa Dacil, Los Cristianos, Tenerife
Advantages: Staff, Entertainment
Disadvantages: Food
...Hotel Sol Princesa Dacil ***
Los Cristianos Tenerife
Just returned from a week?s stay at the hotel and can happily say that this was an excellent holiday, I flew over with my friend from Manchester with Thomas Cook, a flight which took about 4 hrs 20 mins and then only a short transfer from the airport to the hotel of about 20 minutes. I could not fault the holiday and although this is only a 3 star hotel in my opinion it should be upgraded, I have stayed in 3,4,5 star hotels and this more than met my standards.
As I said it was only a short transfer and we arrived at the hotel about 15:30 and were immediately checked-in, the receptionist informed me we had been upgraded to a superior room free of charge. The Superior rooms are by far the best and are worth paying for; they are situated on the top three floors of the hotel...

The Giants of the Canaries
Advantages: Beautiful, well kept resort
Disadvantages: Not for clubbers or those with mobility diffculties
...WHERE?
Los Gigantes is situated on the sunny West coast of Tenerife. It has a fantastic all year round sunny climate owing to the island's close proximity to the West coast of Africa. During the British summer time, it's very hot! I've known it reach almost 40 degree Celsius in August. During the British winter I've experienced temperatures in Los Gigantes of anything between 18 and 25. Los Gigantes gets its name (The Giants) from the stunning cliffs which rise vertically from the sea to a huge 300m height. The cliffs attract visitors from everywhere and can be seen from miles away!
GETTING THERE
Los Gigantes is about 40 kilometres from the airport in the South of the island, Reina Sofia. Charter flights fly on Tuesdays and Fridays from most UK airports and you can take a Monarch Scheduled flight from Manchester and Heathrow...

......here comes the summer sun
Advantages: year round sun
Disadvantages: nope, cant think of any!
...Here is my review of Los Gigantes in Tenerife - as you can see, I quite like it!!!
My Experience:-
I have been here on holiday twice now.
The first time we stayed in an apartment in Los Gigantes (below, what was, The Royal Sun Apartments for those who know Los Gigantes) itself and the second time we rented a villa just up the road in Playa De La Arena (both of the properties have now been sold - sorry!)
The first holiday in the apartment it was mid July (03)! It is apparently the hottest time of the year to visit the island (so we found out afterwards!) It reached about 40 degrees when we were there and there was no pool to fall into to cool down. Air conditioning is an absolute must at that time of the year. Unfortunately our accommodation didn't boast such a luxury, and high temperatures even at night made for difficult...

Los Americas,Tenerife has it all
Advantages: Hot, Sunny, Reasonably Priced
Disadvantages: Busy, Hectic Night life
...Just want to give as much info in a total package about Tenerife.
I have done the Portugal, Spain Mainland, Yugoslavia, Greece, Cyprus, Italy, Gran Canaria, Lanzarotte thing, but to be honest have settled every year for Tenerife.
I have three kids and it basicaly suits without forking out money on trying a different experience.
There are plenty of flights available to the island leaving mainly Fridays and have never suffered any issues getting there.
The Reina Sophia Airport is around a 30 minuite drive from Los Americas where you will witness some of the finest Hotels imaginable.
Yes.......and that is exactly what i said, some of the 5* hotels take some beating.
Usually, i opt to stay at one of the 4* hotels such as The Conquistador or Noelia Sur where i have stayed on numerous occasions and every time been a winner.
The problem...

Los Christianos
Advantages: See op
Disadvantages: Errr... the beach maybe?
...‘Wanna come on holiday?’ They said?…….
‘Yeah, where to?’ I said……..
‘Tenerife’ they said…….
‘Errrr’ I said…….
‘Why not?’ they said…..
‘Just don’t fancy it’ I said….
OK, enough already with the ‘they said-I said’ stuff.
I went to Tenerife in April; a resort called Los Christianos. About a 15-20 minute ride from the Airport, and the smaller sister resort of Playas De Las Americas.
And although I wasn’t expecting it, I loved Tenerife.
Don’t ask me why I had never fancied it before, I don’t know, and after spending a great two weeks there (and now in the middle of making arrangements to go back!!) it’s even more of a mystery to me as to why I thought I...

Tenerife - The Good The Bad and The Ugly
Advantages: Spectacular and unusual scenery. Duty-free
Disadvantages: Large resorts are lager-lout territory.
...We went to Puerto de Santiago/Los Gigantes, which is northwest of the two most ?popular? resorts, Playa de las Americas & Los Cristianos - muchos Ingleses!
These two, in my view, are awful, and visitors going there for the first time expecting something with a foreign feel will be disappointed by the usual rash of "See Leeds v Barcelona live tonite on Sky" cafes and bars. What they do have is beaches. It?s not just us either. The Germans are catered for in a similar way. I suppose Tenerife is like the best and the worst of southern Spain in that respect. Los Christianos does have one saving grace - it?s the ferry port to La Gomera, one of the other islands, which makes for a fascinating day out in itself.
Puerto de Santiago hasn't got much of a beach but the pools in the hotels & apartments are usually fine. It has a good...

A Taster about Tenerife Pearl Centre
Advantages: Nice Loos!
Disadvantages: An oyster must die to gain the pearl.
...will cost extra, but is well worth the added expense in my view.
**How to Get There**
Tenerife Pearl can be found at Armeńime on the main road between
Playa de las Americas (within 10 km Playa de las Americas) and Los Gigantes (South side of the island). It is opened seven days a week from 9am till 8pm. There is a free car park. If going by bus take Bus number 473.
Address:
Tenerife Pearl
C.C. Teide 5
San Eugenio Alto
Adeje
Tenerife
Telephone number: 922 715661
Fax number: 922 715953
Website: www.worldpearl.com/centres/tenerifepearl
This opinion is just a short taster about Tenerife Pearl. I have only included a small amount of information about this large centre to wet you appetite to visit. There is much to discover and learn whilst enjoying a peaceful visit out of the intensive mid-day sun. Oh and by the way...

Apartment Complex in Tenerife
Advantages: Clean and spacious apartments.
Disadvantages: Too noisy and packed around the hotel area especially around the pool.
...Compostela Beach Resort was situated in between Playa d'las Americas and Los Cristianos, which is an area that is packed with plenty of places to eat and drink.
We stayed here for two weeks self catering in a two bedroom apartment. The apartment was brilliant, it was very spacious and clean. Food was good and well presented in the restaurant. The kids really loved it as there are loads of children of all ages everywhere in the hotel, but I thought it was too packed around the swimming pool area. The hotel couldn't cater for so many people and to be honest it was rather noisy all day long around the pool, so we did tend to go to the beach where it was more peaceful, which is a ten minute walk from the hotel. I wouldn't stay here again, although my two boys liked the company of other children, but I just thought it was too loud...
